Honolulu Condo Rental Photos and Description

Studio, Condo, Sleeps 2, 1 Bath, no kitchen per se

PANORAMIC OCEAN, DIAMOND HEAD & KAPOLANI PARK VIEWS. Its a première residential lifestyle ON THE GOLD COAST! A brief 15 minute breathtakingly beautiful walk to Waikiki’s famous beaches, shopping, dining and nightlife.

This is NOT some tired old Waikiki hotel room with a sliver of an ocean view.

Located AT THE TOP of the Diamond Head Beach Hotel, this penthouse unit has panoramic views to the east (Diamond Head) and to the west (Waikiki), not to mention the ocean, mountain and park views. Some have likened it to a crows nest due to the outstanding views.

Stylish and tastefully renovated -- with new Travertine floors, Cherry Wood cabinets, African Ivory Granite counter tops, White Plantation Shutters, White Leather chairs, indiginous Koa wood furnishings, Kohler bath products, 40' Sony HDTV 1080p & Blu-Ray, Digital Cable, FREE Password Protected Secure Wi-Fi, and a Memory Foam King bed with 700 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets contribute to making your stay comfortable, tranquil and rejuvenating. All you have to do is open the windows and take it in!

There is no real need for a car -- as you won't want to leave this highly desirable Gold Coast neighborhood with everything you need within walking distance. The Bus stops right out front and we have UBER here as well. There is and ice machine and laundry room in the basement, plus we have bike & surf racks for rent.

The BEST reasons for selecting my Impeccable Penthouse -- AWESOME OCEAN VIEWS, QUALITY OF LIFE AND LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! All within walking distance of Waikiki, but far enough away from the excitement and buzz (cars & music) that you can sleep with the windows open and let the pacific ocean ebb and flow lull you to sleep.

Please read my guest's comments to see for yourself.

My Penthouse is a dream vacation location with an opportunity to create some of life’s most memorable moments. So what are you waiting for? Check my calendar for availability and Book It Now! I’m waiting to hear from you!

With Aloha,

PS The lawn looks exactly as depicted in the photo. It rarely gets used so be sure to spend some time relaxing in the shade of the palms on the lawn.

About Jan Davis

I'm a Fortune 25 Intel retiree who loves the ocean. I’ve worked a lifetime to afford the Gold Coast and I am willing to share my good fortune with those who are respectful of my belongings and investment, and those who have an understanding of what it takes to own and live in Hawaii.

I have been on Oahu full time since 2003 and have been vacationing here since 1992. I know the area well and I am happy to point you in the right direction to ensure you have the best possible time while you are our guest on beautiful Oahu.

My Impeccable ‘Maile’ Penthouse is at the top of the Diamond Head Beach Hotel, on the Gold Coast in the quiet, exclusive bedroom community of the Diamond Head neighborhood. But not everyone will appreciate the quiet neighborhood feel. If this is your first visit to Oahu and you are unsure of where to stay give me a call and let's discuss your dreams, and rest assured I will do my best to help you land in the right place.

Mahalo and Aloha,

Jan Davis purchased this condo in 2009

Why Jan Davis chose Honolulu

There is no nicer place on earth than the Oahu Gold Coast with the Pacific Ocean, Kapiolani Park and Diamond Head Crater all at your doorstep. This is a neighborhood with a real community feel. People use the park for family picnics and daily exercise like Tai Chi and Yoga. There are only three hotels in this area and about half of the Diamond Head Beach Hotel building is residential, which contributes significantly to the quiet, neighborhood feel.

The weather is generally 80 degrees, the ocean is clear and inviting, the trade winds gently blow, and the local cultural & ethnic diversity is enviable. Where else can you have all of that and still be in the safety of the United States with immense military presence?

PLUS Kahala Mall is really close by and has everything one needs in life (Whole Foods, California Pizza Kitchen, Macy's and the Movie Theaters). No need to get stuck in traffic -- which is another reason to let me help you with logistics since I have ~ 10 years of Logistics experience with Intel.

What makes this condo unique

Leave your cares and car at home. Take the elevator to the ocean and enjoy a soft salt-water dip in a calm clear blue ocean. Renew your commitment to health with a walk around Kapiolani Park. Or hike to the top of Diamond Head Crater for a breath taking view of Waikiki and Honolulu. Relax in the shade of a giant banyan tree with gentle trades and the mesmerizing ebb and flow of the Pacific ocean. Walk to the Waikiki Aquarium, the Honolulu Zoo or the International Market Place in Waikiki. Savor the flavors of excellent food and fine dining in our ocean front neighborhood restaurants.

PLUS my unit is squeaky clean, stylishly decorated, efficiently and thoughtfully laid out (I'm using my guests' words here) and it is likely equal to, or better than, that which you have at home. As a friend once said 'Why would I want to stay where I get less than what I have at home?' Makes sense, right?

Guestbook comments from the owner

I've rented many VRBO properties, but PH4 is the best stocked I've experienced! You have thought of really everything. Your prep, welcome & communications are A-1. Congratulations Thanks for sharing a lovely 'dream' location!

As it was advertised, I have enjoyed this property twice now. It's South of all the mayhem of Waikiki. Open up the windows and enjoy the sounds of the ocean and the breeze flowing thru this single room suite. Very clean and surprisingly quite that close to Waikiki. Jan, the owner is very responsive without being intrusive. This is perfect for a couple wanting to get away for a long weekend that doesn't want to be annoyed by the hotel craziness. If you surf, you can surf right out in front.

I will be back again and highly recommend it for the price.

Very enjoyable stay with a fabulous view and trade winds.

  • 5 of 5

The owner thought of everything. Very efficient studio with Hawaii feel and style. This is one we will do again. Check in was easy with emailed instructions and the access to many restaraunts, Waikiki , without the crowds, and much more. Wish it had a pool, but the yard area at the sea wall is a great place to read and relax. There is access to the ocean, but it's not ideal for everyone.

Maile Penthouse, Diamond Head Beach Hotel and Residences

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay in the Maile Penthouse!!! It was fully equipped with everything one could possibly need. It was comfortable, immaculate, and impeccably decorated. The owner, Jan Davis, could not have been more helpful or friendly. Her suggestions on where to eat and what to do in Honolulu, and around the entire island, were top notch. We would highly recommend this wonderful little gem!

Great location. Fantastic views. Very well appointed small space. No lanai. No way to do any real cooking. Would rent again

Owner's Response: There is no kitchen in this studio unit. This is clearly outlined in my listing. I don't know where the confusion came from as we also discussed this on the phone before this booking. The views are what one pays for, and they are quite awesome!

The floating world

  • 5 of 5

Lovely room that floats above Honolulu with beautiful views of the park the Waikiki water and Diamond Head. Quiet neighborhood. Easy access to buses and pleasant walk to Waikiki. Seldom needed to use the A/C because the trade winds through the windows provided lovely cool breeze. Downsides: None.

Owner's Response: I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in my little slice of paradise. The whales were quite active today. Take a look at the Diamond Head Beach Hotel facebook page and I'll post some photos of the great puffs I caught (unfortunately I didn't catch any jumps or tail flaps today, but I did catch a few puffs I'm willing to share!) Aloha, jd

Small room with no balcony

  • 3 of 5

This room is not a penthouse. It is very small. There is no kitchen to speak of and the bathroom is certainly not private. True, there are windows on either side of the tiny room with views of the ocean and Diamond Head, through shutters. One feels shut in.

One night, because there is no balcony, or is it lanai, I sat outside on the lawn looking up at the stars. I was alone, meditating. A security guard came and told me to leave. I was told that all external areas were closed off at 10pm. I had nowhere else to go but to bed.

There is no beach. A steel ladder leads you down into the water from a rather precipitous wall. There are no reasonable eateries or affordable convenience stores within easy walking distance. I sent an email to the owner asking whether there was a jug to boil water so that I could make tea. No response.

This is a very sad place.

Owner's Response: I have 39 on-line reviews and a Five Star rating. My in-room guest book has another approximately 50 stellar reviews that are not on-line--providing testament to the quality of the unit and the integrity of the web advertising. Is it possible this booking was made without reading the details? --This is a penthouse unit by Webster's definition and legal address (PH4). This is spelled out under Property Type: “Condo, On 13th floor, 350 sq ft.” --My landing photo shows the lawn, seawall and ocean. Photos 17,18,19 address the seawall, stairwell and Kaimana Beach located to the west. It is obviously on the ocean, not beach front. --The shutters are quite visible in photos 3,4,5,6,7. All photos are unedited and taken on an iPhone 5. This is the first complaint about feeling shut-in. I suspect most people look beyond the shutters to the incredible ocean views instead (as stated in reviews).
--My apologies for the lawn being closed at 10pm. This is a building security policy. And I’m sorry you felt you had no where else to go but to bed, because Kapiolani park is just across the street with over 300 acres of open space, and Waikiki is one mile to the west, about 15 minutes walking distance along the beach walk. --Photo 8 illustrates and calls out a “quasi kitchen.” This is a studio unit--there is no kitchen. I received no emails regarding a Jug for tea. However there was a hot plate, two sauce pans, a microwave and a salad serving bowl which might have been used to boil water and make tea.
--Regarding reasonable eateries and affordable convenience stores--this is a very exclusive neighborhood on Oahu’s Gold Coast at the foot of Diamond Head. Our neighborhood provides award winning fine dining experiences (as outlined on my web). Waikiki is one mile away with plenty of affordable corporate restaurants. The husband made this booking. Could it be that the wife was not involved and was completely caught off guard by his decision? This is not a sad pace at all. It’s a slice of heaven on earth--as evidenced by other reviews.

On the water and across from Kapolani Park where the Ali'i (royalty) used to spend their weekends at the polo fields, this park is now home to lots of locals doing healthy activities like soccer games and evening concerts at the Waikiki Shell. The Waikiki Aquarium and Honolulu Zoo are a short 10 minute walk away and a hike around and up Diamond Head will be calling to those who want an aerobic workout!
