Ideal for family reunions, staff meetings, retreats, luxurious vacations, golf outings, girls getaways, and those who want to hike and fish by day and relax in a hot tub by night...
Our guests have asked to take our mattresses home, 'borrow' our original art :-), move in permanently...One tween hugged her mom and said, 'I feel like I'm a princess!!'
Golfers rest between rounds near the grill or fireside for a game of chess. Fishermen hike down to the lake to our private dock to catch trout for lunch. Families walk through the woods and roast marshmallows over the firepit. Sunlovers tan on the deck and then lounge in the hot tub...
No need to worry about thin walls or loud neighbors or traffic noises...or people even knowing where you are! Our address is literally off the map, tucked away within 8+ acres, hidden by trees on 3 sides and Lake Taneycomo on the fourth.
Though just 3.5 miles from Hwy 76, 6 miles from Branson Landing and minutes further to all the fun Branson offers, you may never want to leave once you pull into the garage...
Wake-up in your luxurious bedroom to watch the deer in the morning. Warm-up to winter seated fireside by the Lord of the Rings chess set. Take a nature walk with loved ones. Enjoy laughter with family and friends around a grand dining table, over a game of shuffleboard, table bowling, foosball, arcade games, or with the Wii.
Watch the sunset with a panoramic lake view on one of the decks. Relax in the 8-10 person hot tub or detox in the 2-person sauna before you say, 'good-night.'
And end the day with a cup of your favorite coffee and a great book from Rivendell's house library as you sink into one of our fabulous chaises and chairs.

Early 2010, our fun-filled family embarked on four months of remodeling to transform this lakeview home into Rivendell! After taking prayer and writing retreats for 17 years, the door opened for us to create a retreat home of our own. Through the miracle of adoption, we are the overjoyed parents of three outrageously creative children. Our eldest is gifted with Asperger's Syndrome, our middle is graced with extroverted compassion, and our youngest is currently seeking to master burping the ABCs... We home school part-time, parent full-time, and laugh a lot to stay sane. Our personal residence is about one hour from Rivendell -- out in the country where you can count the stars. We are the happy guardians of 4 rescued (outside) dogs, 3 odd (outside) cats, 1 rabbit (yes, inside...for the moment), and 9 unusually social chickens. We write. We travel. We invest in the next generation. We welcome you to Rivendell, our Branson retreat home!
Marie purchased this House in 2009
Why Marie chose Branson
The rocks, hills, trees, lakes...Branson is filled with natural beauty. Since moving to Missouri from Texas in 1996, we've made frequent trips down to Branson to take the kids to Silver Dollar City as a family or to find a quiet retreat for rest and writing individually. We love the drive and often have taken side roads to simply enjoy the scenery. Over the years, a dream grew in our heart of creating a home that could be a happy haven for families and a spiritual resting place for pilgrims. Our dreams accelerated in October of 2009 when we found this gorgeous home with a beautiful view, private acreage, and enough room for us to create a place of renewal and rest.
What makes this House unique
Reunions, family vacations, staff retreats, personal getaways, a writer's haven... Groups will enjoy cooking in a beautiful lake view kitchen with 2 ovens. Once dinner is served, all can eat together in a kitchen/dining room that seats 22 comfortably or many more by simply opening the dining room door onto the upper deck. Families will appreciate two living rooms, a 4-bed bunkroom just inches off the lower family room, loads of interactive games, and enough decks, patios, and yard to give everyone space to roam. Small groups will delight in several warm rooms ideal for connecting, debriefing, brainstorming, and planning for the future with the only distractions being an occasional eagle and the irresistible sunsets...Our conference-size dining table seats 16 in comfort in a room sure to inspire. Individuals will relish their private bedrooms, each of which features a relaxing chair/chaise and a desk that will bring out the writer in you! Every room is named, customized, and designed to spoil your body while you rest your mind.

Celebrating our 50 th wedding anniversary.
We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and included our son and daughter, our grand-kids, and our great-grand-kids. We wanted them to be a part of our celebration and wanted a place where we could spend some quality family time in comfort as well as enjoy the events Branson offers. This place was just what we wanted. It is secluded yet close to Branson events, large enough for all 13 of us to enjoy private time as well as family time, well stocked, and comfortable. Definitely recommend it to others and will reserve again next time we visit Branson.
Not able to get to the water, hard to move around outside.
The sheets were dirty and I had to wash them in the evening when we should have been able to go to bed after traveling all day. House size is not as large as we thought.
I am so sorry you did not feel Rivendell up to your standards. We strive for every guest to have a wonderful experience. Our cleaning staff is very reliable so I do not understand the sheets not being clean, but a phone call would have fixed the situation. Each guest is given my cell phone number and encouraged to call for any questions or problems. I can usually get there within fifteen to twenty minutes.
Rivendell is on a bluff overlooking Lake Taneycomo. The dock is accessed by going down the hill through the woods. We have made winding paths to keep it from being extremely steep and have stairs in the steepest parts. Our mom, in her 70's, accesses it but you do need to be in good health. It is uphill all the way back to the house.
Again, we do encourage our guests to communicate with us if something is not up to par. We want each guest experience to be restorative and magnificent.
truly an interesting and very comfortable retreat
pictures as they say, don't do the home justice. so many details that say this home is one of a kind. and so large. the kitchen even has 2 stoves. the view, we saw 3 bald eagles. reminds me of an art museum in a castle. and really close to any place you would like to roam to. like i said so many details and the beautiful unusual furniture. would greatly recommend a stay.
Thank you for your review. Yes, Rivendell is very unique and very comfortable. Our over-sized furniture beckons one to sit a spell. And our ornate desks invite even a non-writer to introspection and journalling. The views are phenomenal and we enjoy watching the eagles. The whole atmosphere of the home lends to peace and relaxation, yet it is large enough for a bustling family with all ages.
Sisters Sippin' Tea Literary Group, Tulsa Chapter, recently returned
from a glorious three night stay at Rest Inn Rivendell in Branson, Missouri. We take our retreats seriously, and having the right location and accommodations are very important to us. We searched high and low for the right property and after endless hours on the internet, reading and listening to different reviews, we came upon Rest Inn Rivendell. When I read about the owners, the Chloe's, and how their dream of Rivendell came to life, the story they shared about their family, property pictures, and several communications with Marie, I knew Rivendell was the place for us. From the moment we crossed the threshold into Rivendell, we were elated. We were surrounded with beauty inside and out. We felt the peace of Rivendell. We took pleasure in touring through the home and making room selections, we were in awe of all the detail and attention in the house. Rivendell has a welcoming spirit; the comfort of the home embraces you. I once read that your home is a silent witness, the language of your home examines what a home reveals about our priorities, faith and purpose to life. You can always find a beautiful place, but to find a place like
Rivendell that aligns with your trip purpose is awe-inspiring. The home is a silent beautiful witness. We hope to return again, and on our next visit, we will definitely curtail our Branson activities so that we can thoroughly and leisurely enjoy everything that Rivendell has to offer.
Sharon Haynes - Sisters Sippin' Tea Tulsa Chapter
Thank you Sharon for such a beautiful and heartfelt review. We are so glad Rivendell ministered to you spirit, soul and body. We looked for quite awhile to find a retreat home. Nestled in the woods, Rivendell offers privacy and nature for quiet reflection. The large front porch and decks overlooking Lake Taneycomo lend to relaxing moments alone or gathering places for the whole family. We have outfitted Rivendell in a way that our guests can feel comfortable the moment they step in the door. It has a wonderful atmosphere for retreats as well as for family reunions. We would love to host your lovely group any time. Thanks again for such a delightful review.
This place is so beautiful
Me & my family of 13 stay here every year for the past 2 years now & we will be back every year from here on out.
We enjoyed our stay at Rivendell very much. There was 18 of us, adults and children for our annual family gathering. The house itself is beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. Well stocked kitchen and loved the huge table for all of us to sit at the same time. The walk down to the dock was much more steep than we expected but we managed it. My father in law struggled a bit with the hike back up but we loved the private dock and fishing. Owners were contacted because we couldn't find the router and they returned my text within minutes and answered my question.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Rivendell. It is the perfect place for families and especially those who enjoy fishing. The dock is a hike down through the woods, but with our winding paths and stairs at its steepest, it is accessible for most healthy adults, but the uphill can be a challenge for some. We have stocked Rivendell with most of the necessities of living so our families can enjoy their time together rather than running out for normal supplies. And as much as possible, we try to answer every question or problem as soon as we can. Guests are supplied with my cell phone number and are encouraged to call or text any time they need
to. We hope to host your lovely family again in the future.
