This beautifully appointed, very unique, custom built cabin is now available to rent, either nightly or by the week. Aptly named “The Tree House” for the trees, in the house! Whether it’s for Summer recreation, Fall foliage or winter skiing, it is a perfect place for a romantic honeymoon, family getaway, couples getaway or family reunion. Located on pristine Watauga Lake, you have access to 106 miles of shoreline and are surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest. The lake and mountain views from this cabin are spectacular.
The Tree House is the perfect place to 'escape' the daily grind and enjoy nature's beauty from the comfort of a well-equipped lakeside cabin. It is a short walk to the private marina and gazebo, where there is a 30 foot covered boat slip for your boat or jet ski, a 2 person kayak for your use or a 24 foot Bennington Fish and Cruise Pontoon, for rent exclusively by Tree House guests. You can be busy every minute, or simply sit by the water's edge and relax.
Enjoy the lake, hiking, Grandfather Mountain, the Virginia Creeper Trail, Bristol Caverns, Golf at Ret Tail Golf Club and many more great outdoor activities.
Pet Policy: Well behaved pets are welcome with an extra security deposit of $150, and an additional $25 cleaning fee. Pets must be spayed or neutered, current on all vaccines and treated with some form of topical flee treatment, like Frontline, one week prior to arrival.
For years, my husband and I have been looking for a 4-season place to get 'out of the rat race'. We love the outdoors, and wanted a place to do it all-hike, boat, snow ski, fish, golf, horseback ride....and relax. This past Fall, we finally discovered Watauga Lake and The Tree House. It is one of the most beautiful, peaceful places we have seen. We immediately fell in love with it and hope you will too!
Kim Matlack purchased this cabin in 2009
This house has unique personality and character. We loved it! Kimberly and Sam provided excellent service and everything we need is ready in the house. Really, beyond our expectations! The boat is the icing on the cake. We hope to be back!
We had a wonderful stay at the Treehouse for a week and wish we could have stayed another week! The view from the deck is beautiful and of course the lake is beautiful. It is a very quiet area, and when you do see a neighbor they are exceptionally friendly! The house is very clean and the layout is smart. The main two bedrooms are downstairs and can be accessed from the driveway so you don't have to carry you luggage up the stairs!! The great room area is spacious and very comfortable!!!! We enjoyed the stay very much and recommend this lovely house.
As many other reviewers have stated this is a wonderful vacation property in an idyllic setting. The beautiful house, combined with the available pontoon boat, make this an excellent choice for a relaxing family vacation. Dealing with the owner, Kim, only adds to the pleasure of the overall experience. We had 4 generations (and two dogs) visiting over our 2 week stay, and there was something for everyone.
Some practical notes -- the house is located up a steep drive across a very quiet street from a cove off the main lake. The boat is located at a community dock about a tenth of a mile from the house, an easy walk. The house is an 'inverted' layout -- two large BR's sharing a full bath on the ground floor. Note the primary entrance to the house is directly into one of the BR's, just something to consider when you're planning who sleeps where. Main floor of the house contains the kitchen, living area, the 2nd full bath and an expansive deck with nice covered dining area. The 3rd BR is upstairs from the living area, with an additional loft sleeping area off this BR offering extra sleeping capacity (kids able to navigate a ladder would love this).
The closest full grocery is about a 30 min drive in Elizabethton, so plan accordingly. The Ingles grocery is first class. The house is well equipped, so Kim's advice to bring something to grill, some charcoal, and a bottle of wine was spot on to get us through the first night.
I'll conclude by saying the lake itself is gorgeous. Deep, clean, sparsely developed and surrounded by the fabulous Smokies. If you're looking for a quiet vacation in a lovely setting you can't go wrong with the Treehouse.
We recently returned from an absolutely amazing vacation at the Treehouse. The house was beautiful and stocked with all of the necessities of a "home away from home." I should mention that the home is located "off the beaten path." We truly appreciated the quiet nature and the beauty of this magnificent lake. For once, it was nice to not be inundated with hokey advertisements and tourist traps while on vacation. I was worried that my college age kids would be bored. However, this could not have been further from the truth. We chose to spend many days swimming and fishing off the beautiful pontoon (highly recommended!) The location is also perfect for a trip to the Virginia Creeper (Damascus, VA), Roan Mountain, Grandfather Mountain and shopping at Boone. Ziplining and rafting are also available, but my kids chose to spend most of their days on the boat. I would highly recommend renting the treehouse. Kim is a pleasure to deal with and the vacation has given my family many lasting memories...Priceless!
This was our second stay at the Tree House! It really is a unique home, lots of amenities, very comfortable, and the decor is inspired. Short walk or drive (about 2/10 of a mile) to the Watauga Falls Community Dock with space to swim or launch a boat. We rented the owner's pontoon boat during our stay and spent a lot of quality time on the lake. Did three day hikes in Boone and Blowing Rock (45 minutes and 1 hour away). Checked out the local shops while we were there. The Game Keeper Restaurant is great for a special dinner and the Cactus Kitchen is a must try (both in Boone). We brought food with us and cooked most meals at the well-equipped kitchen at the house.
Watauga Lake is very clean and not over-crowded, especially during the week. The views are incredible. The Tree House is fabulous and had everything we needed! It is clean and well maintained and Kim is great to work with. I highly recommend this property!
This was a great location if you are looking to be in the mountains with easy access to an amazing lake! The cabin was very nice with beautiful views and all the comforts of home. Butler is located off the beaten path, yet within driving distance to caverns and beautiful waterfalls. Great for families who want to get outdoors.
Watauga Lake is located just 30 miles west of Boone, NC and 30 miles east of Bristol Motor Speedway. There are many other nearby attractions, including, Beech, Sugar and Appalachian Mountains for skiing, Tweetsie Railroad Amusement Park, The Virginia Creeper Trail, Grandfather and Roan Mountains, Damascus and The Blue Ridge Parkway.
In addition to enjoying the lake, there is an abundance of hiking available, as well as whitewater rafting, horseback riding, fishing, mountain biking, golfing and snow skiing in the winter. Boone and Blowing Rock host an abundance of interesting shops, galleries and restaurants.
