My mother moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 1969 with 3 children and 1 one the way. I was the one on the way. In the fall of 1970, My Uncle Joe, Aunt Jackie and my mother, Nancy, began Shenandoah River Outfitters with two old aluminum canoes and a dream.
I started Mountain Whisper Cabins in 2005 after purchasing the cabin I grew up in and settling back into the Valley.
The Mountain Whisper Cabin is Nestled Within Walking Distance To The Legendary Shenandoah River and the Shenandoah River Outfitters.
My friends and I had a great weekend at the Mountain Whisper cabin. The cabin has a great layout, very nice kitchen, clean hot tub, and nice screened in porch to keep the bugs away. Overall, it had all the amenities we wanted and we could walk to the river outfitters for our tubing trip, which was perfect. We all agreed we would gladly stay there again!
My wife and I went for the weekend and it was a very nice cabin in good shape. It was easily accessible and was very comfortable. It was a nice central location for several key activities including Luray Caverns and the local wineries. The hot tub on the deck was also great.
There is not a tremendous amount of space between this and other cabins. Additionally, the other side of the street has a better view of the mountains. Otherwise, it was a great choice for us.
My husband and I along with our dog enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing weekend at Mountain Whisper Cabin over the Memorial Day holiday. The cabin was was well located...close to hiking trails, the river and not far from town for conveniences. We especially enjoyed the screened-in porch where we'd spend the mornings sipping coffee and eating breakfast. While neighboring cabins were close enough that we could hear other people talking, it was comforting knowing that others were nearby. We never got around to using the hot tub or the fire pit although I'm not sure I'd want to sit outside....lots of bugs/mosquitos (expected, of course, when you're in the woods). My only suggestion would be to provide wifi. While the whole reason for us renting the cabin was to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, it would've been nice to have wifi to stream music on our phones without having to do it over cellular coverage which was sketchy out there. Overall, we had a really good time and will likely be back.
The cabin is situated in a community of homeowners and other cabin rentals. So when you're sitting in the hot tub one of you is as it appears in the picture however, the other view just to the right is of a very large house not too far away but in full view of the hot tub. Looking far to the left from the hot tub there is another house. The proximity to other homes was disturbing to us because of the noise factor. The folks renting or living in the house to the left were up until 3 o'clock in the morning having a loud party. The homeowners to the right of us were playing very loud music until odd hours of the night.
The cabin itself is nice but it could use a couple basic improvements. We were advised after booking the reservation to bring our own linens and towels. A couple basic things would make this cabin nicer. That would include simple bathmats in the shower and in the bathroom to avoid slipping. A couple basic towels would be nice in the bathrooms. Maybe a rug in the main living room. And the installation of Wi-Fi.
The rear enclosed balcony is very nice. you can be out there in the rain and not get wet you can be out there in the heat and not get too hot and not be bothered by bugs. The fire pit was a nice relaxing experience in the evening.
Overall most of what we found discouraging with the cabin was the external noise factor which is of no fault of the owner.
We did appreciate the fact that our Pet was allowed to attend this short vacation with us.
This past week I spent four days in Mountain Whisper with my 16 year old grandson. He is high functioning asperger. We were quite pleased with our experience. The cabin was an excellent base camp as we fished, took the Luray Cavern tour, hiked, and found isolated areas to teach him how to shoot using my pellet rifle. Shenandoah River Outfitters is just down the hill from the cabin and the variety of their rentals should support most desires to spend time on the river. The cabin was immaculate when we arrived and the kitchen was very well stocked with eating and cooking utensils. It was not what I would have expected in a cabin - the appliances were in excellent condition - well honestly, i don't know if the stove worked because as two guys we didn't cook much indoors, but the microwave and refrigerator were excellent. I have seen several reviews on various sites commenting on the bed being only "full" size. The smaller of the 3 bedrooms has a full size bed but the other beds are definitely queen size. I rate my experience as 5 stars, not because it is the best cabin I have ever stayed in but because the cabin was exactly what my grandson and I needed and it met all expectations based on the various website descriptions.
My grandson was especially happy having civilization (Walmart) relatively close by and he would recommend MIndi's for their chips and salsa.
This cabin is very well maintained and is updated throughout. My husband, daughter and I enjoyed our stay very much from the fire put to the hot tub to the screened in porch. There are a lot of little extras throughout the cabin like the board games and stereo. It is in a great location, close to all the Luray attractions and Skyline drive. We can't wait to come back and vacation here again.
