About Darla: 740-407-1059

We are BIG fans of the Hocking Hills, and we live just one hour away in the Columbus area. Since childhood, we learned to appreciate nature and our environment. Getting the opportunity a few decades later to buy land and build a vacation retreat in our favorite Ohio location, was a real life changing treat! Our family (two adult sons and daughter-in-law) and extended family and friends enjoy some rest and relaxation at the property several times a year. We open our home to others to enjoy, and hope they feel it's their home away from home too!

Darla: 740-407-1059 purchased this lodge in 2007

Why Darla: 740-407-1059 chose Ohio

Seems like a world away but only a one hour drive from the city of Columbus. Hocking Hills is a great break from the city, providing beautiful scenery, tranquil and relaxing environment with so many natural attractions very close by.

What makes this lodge unique

Bamboo trees near patio and deck. Custom Automation Technology to control lights, security and utilities via lap top when home is not in use to conserve energy, on-site composting to feed the landscape.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our 5 nights here so much. We wish we were not packing the car right now and could just stay here longer. The lodge is beautiful and very nicely furnished. The bonfire pit and hot tub were some of our very favorites. The kids favorite things were the foosball and pool table, and leaving the property one day for a zip lining trip. This setting was so relaxing and quiet, yet so close to the State Park. Thank you for calling the dog catcher for us to tell them about the sweet stray dog that wondered onto the property throughout our stay. By the time he got here, the dog wondered off again BUT came back again as we were packing to leave. The kids fell in love with the dog for the past several days so needless to say, we have one additional passenger for the ride back home. Her newly given name is Maggie per the kids! Must be fate as we were planning on getting a family pet. The kids are THRILLED to add Maggie to our family!

Peaceful Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this house last year and loved it, so we decided to come back this year. The location is great, right by Ash Cave, to go for a hike. The property itself is a good size and we took several walks on the grounds. It is a secluded and peaceful setting. The interior of the house is beautiful and has all the amenities you would need. The pictures on the website are exactly what you can expect, no surprises. We had a minor issue last year and contacted the owner. She immediately responded and our issue was easily resolved. I would highly recommend this wonderful home to friends and family. We hope to visit again soon!

Comforts of Home

  • 4 of 5

The property was very comfortable and included all the comforts of being at home. From supplied linens to cleaning supplies and laundry detergent. A great welcoming touch of a gift basket including locally grown apples and wine. Very thoughtful! Very peaceful and relaxing at night while enjoying the fire pit. We also encountered a Buck and Doe while we were out by the fire pit during the day. This 33 acre property is perfect for nature lovers. I highly recommend a stay here! We will be back

Luxury in the woods- spectacular fall foliage views!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here three nights, but wished we would have reserved a full week! The house has a peaceful nature to it, so nicely furnished and decorated. We found it very relaxing and really enjoyed our time there.

The home is so close to The Hocking Hills State Park, we walked to Ash Cave from the house to get on the trail. Our family enjoyed the DirecTV (GO CAVS and Buckeyes), the hot tub, pool table and just spending some R & R time together. We hope to come back again very soon! Thanks for opening your wonderful property to us. A & J

Beautiful hone in the heart of Hocking Hills, secluded yet close to hiking

  • 4 of 5

This was a beautiful home in a very secluded area, perfect for accommodating three generations of family members ranging in age from infant to 65 years old. The home was clean and well appointed with a beautiful view. Although we enjoyed our weekend visit and would recommend this place to others, there are few things to consider before renting this home. The house advertises a hot tub. There was a hot tub, but the water was green with a bad odor so we did not get it. There were signs on/near the hot tub stating that the hot tub often goes into "econ" mode of guests push an incorrect button, implying that it often doesn't work. We enjoyed fires in the fire pit both nights in the large Adirondack chairs. We could not find a switch to turn on an outdoor light to light our way to the fire pit which is very near the pond. I would recommend taking a flashlight so you don't end up in the pond. Another thing to husband and I stayed in the basement bedroom and heard some sort of rodents scurrying all night long. My sister saw a mouse on the main floor the day before. It would not surprise me to see a mouse given the secluded location of the house and the length of times a front door would be open and closed to load and unload luggage, but it's worth mentioning. The original email from the owner stated that they take measures to control rodents and pests, and given the cleanliness of the house I believe they do. Again, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this house to others but don't count on the hot tub.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for the 4 star "excellent" category review, and we strive very hard to earn 5 star "outstanding" category reviews. I let guests know via email pre-stay and in writing in our vacation home to please call me as the home owner if there are any questions, needs, areas of concern. Unfortunately no communication occurred until I read this review weeks after departure. We will certainly continue the quarterly professional treatments for keeping pests at bay and outside. We are very much into preventative measures since our home is secluded in over 100 acres of forest/woods. We have never witnessed any rodent in the house in nine years, and will continue to look very diligently. Thank you for letting us know one may have entered when door left open for luggage in and out. As far as the hot tub, we have a professional service that comes the day of each guest arrival, and they offer a 100% guarantee on the sanitation/cleanliness etc., however, I would have needed to communicate your comments/concerns to them to have them return immediately, and I wasn't informed of any shortcomings. A tip for lighting up walk way to fire pit. The walkway is about three feet away from the lower level pool table / TV room, so late at night (dark) we typically just leave 1-2 lights shine through the big windows and it lights the way very nicely. We are glad to install a few solar lights by the walkway though as a second lighting source, first thing in the spring. Thanks for the suggestion! Sincerely, Darla

Beautiful House with Everything You Need

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this wonderful house. Set in the hills south of Ash Cave, this house has the very highest end finishes everywhere you look. We stayed with my family of 4 as well as my sister's, both with young children, and there was more than we expected for them to do. We brought Pack and plays, and discovered there were some already there. The bunk room is perfect for kids old enough, and I expect we will be back sometime in the future to take advantage of this wonderful setup. There were games, movies, pool table, foosball, and so much more.

The one complaint is that the hot tub left much to be desired - it was set a little low (99) when we arrived and on the first night one of our party (despite several signs warning us not to which she had not read) attempted to increase this setting. This put it into economy mode and made the tub unusable for the rest of our trip. But overall we had a wonderful time and we were amazed by how much care had been put into making this home truly beautiful. And its location is top notch, just a mile or so from Ash Cave.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the 5 star review! We appreciate that very much. After reading that the hot tub was at 99 degrees, since I didn't receive a call during your stay about that to be able to guide you, the pre-check in hot tub service we use completely drained, cleaned, sanitized and re-filled the hot tub three hours before your arrival, and it takes about 4 hours for the heater to get the new water up to 104 degrees. If I had known a guest accidentally turned economy mode setting on, I would have been glad to provide phone support to get that setting off, it only takes 5 seconds and is the touch of just one button. Just wanted to let you know in the event you become a repeat guest :) Thanks again and we really appreciate you lodging with us. Darla
