Why Darla Minamyer chose Ohio

Seems like a world away but only a one hour drive from the city of Columbus. Hocking Hills is a great break from the city, providing beautiful scenery, tranquil and relaxing environment with so many natural attractions very close by.

What makes this lodge unique

Bamboo trees near patio and deck. Custom Automation Technology to control lights, security and utilities via lap top when home is not in use to conserve energy, on-site composting to feed the landscape.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our 5 nights here so much. We wish we were not packing the car right now and could just stay here longer. The lodge is beautiful and very nicely furnished. The bonfire pit and hot tub were some of our very favorites. The kids favorite things were the foosball and pool table, and leaving the property one day for a zip lining trip. This setting was so relaxing and quiet, yet so close to the State Park. Thank you for calling the dog catcher for us to tell them about the sweet stray dog that wondered onto the property throughout our stay. By the time he got here, the dog wondered off again BUT came back again as we were packing to leave. The kids fell in love with the dog for the past several days so needless to say, we have one additional passenger for the ride back home. Her newly given name is Maggie per the kids! Must be fate as we were planning on getting a family pet. The kids are THRILLED to add Maggie to our family!

Great weekend!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was beautiful! We were there early April and did not expect snow, but it was very pretty.

The only suggestion we had was for the driving directions. People were reading line by line while driving, and the way it's written with such detail about the driveway with the dumpster and the post lights makes it sound like that's the one. So I think everyone in our group, actually, tried to go up that way before realizing that there was more to the directions taking us to the second driveway. I know the correct route is bold and underlined, but I would find a way to revise it so that so much attention isn't drawn to the first drive.

Otherwise, everything was very clearly marked, and we had a great girls' weekend!

Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the wonderful 5 star review! We appreciate your time very much :) I am glad to change the wording on the stay confirmation to try to emphasize the flat utility right of way driveway entrance even more than currently written vs. the steep entrance where the dumpster / first driveway is. Thank you for the tip. Hope you can return again someday if your travels bring you back to the beautiful Hocking Hills region! Darla

Lovely house in the woods!

  • 4 of 5

This hocking hills property is really beautiful and is perfect for a group (family or friends) looking for a quiet weekend getaway. Nestled in the woods on a hill top, this large house has all the amenities that you would need and more (fire-pit, charcoal grill, fully equipped video and game room, Jacuzzi etc). The owner, Darla is a pleasure to work with and she is very prompt on responding back to queries. Overall, we had a great time and would like to return during summer or fall.

Just a couple of call-outs:

1. The property is hard to locate. The GPS address does not get you to the driveway. You have to drive ~ 3/4 miles ahead, avoid the steep driveway (with the blue dumpster at the end) and then take the next left turn (kinda hidden). Try to reach during day-light as this will be very difficult to find in the dark.

2. For people looking to check work emails on a weekend or stream movies, the wi-fi is not completely adequate for that. It is sporadically available in certain sections of property (mainly in the basement).

Pictures can not do this immpressive home justice!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful property is very secluded and quiet. This home had exceeded our expectations in space, decorations, activities, and how well it was equipped with any thing we needed. Not only are you close to Ash Cave, but centrally located to Old Man's Cave, Conkle's Hollow, and Rock House. The views were outstanding. Will look to rent this property in the near future!

Hocking Hills retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely property tucked in the Hocking Hills It's very private and the home is wonderful for a family vacation. The pictures don't do it justice. It was better than described. We enjoyed all the amenities of the hot tub, pool table, cards, movies and loved the view. The home is very open and spacious. We stayed only 2 nights so didn't try to cook, but noted that it has all the basics needed to do so. The home is well kept. We had to contact the owner and she was very quick to respond. We didn't read the directions right the first time so ended up driving up the steep driveway- not a good idea. Make sure you take the access road up the hill. It will seem like you are just driving back into woods without rhyme or reason, but then you round the corner and there is a beautiful home. There was also an outdoor fire ring. Great stock of movies. There is a washer and dryer which helped with drying our swimsuits before packing them up for the flight home.

Although we've been coming to the area for years, it was nice to have the basket of information sheets, a few menus, etc to look at for dining options. Glen Laurel is outstanding for a meal without kids. We had our kids with so tried Ravenwood- mix up with reservations as they were having a beer tasting weekend so we weren't able to enjoy eating there. The Lodge in the park had a fabulous Sunday brunch. The hiking at Old Man's Cave is phenomenal- very easy to do and the views are outstanding. Around the corner from Ash Cave is accurate- also a beautiful and level hike.

I would love to bring extended family back for a vacation as this is the perfect home to do so.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy holiday week to leave a review. We try very, very hard to ensure our vacation home is well maintained and very clean for every guests comfort. We pay significantly more per hour than local wages, to do our best to attract, retain and keep the best service crew options in the Hocking Hills region. So glad you noticed :) We hope to host your family again, and thanks for choosing our property for your area lodging needs this December! Darla- Home Owner
