Comfortable and cozy

  • 4 of 5

Overall the stay was good. When we first got there the code that was provided for the lock to get into the cabin was incorrect, if I had not had prior contact with the owner it would taken a lot longer to get in and after a 9 hour drive it was frustrating. The cabin was comfortable and cozy. Be aware that you do have to park on the street and climb the steps up the hill to get to the cabin and while that was not an issue for us anyone that does not get around so well will have problems.

Fall Stay at Bear Paw

  • 5 of 5

We thought Cozy Bear Paw Cottage was great! We were looking for a value-oriented scenic retreat for a Thanksgiving weekend, and that's exactly what we got.

The location was great, nestled among a street of small cabins once used to house the workforce that constructed the nearby Hiwassee Dam. Located just a mile away, the dam itself was really picturesque. (there are views from both the top and bottom). The cabin itself was great - very clean, very simple, and somewhat rustic. Big enough so that we weren't knocking into each other, yet small enough for a cozy weekend. The kitchen is fabulous - it's got every untensil (except a toaster), and the appliances are better than those in our apartment. We used the charcoal grill outside every night, and not just for burgers and dogs - we were even able to cook up some nice ribs. The couch was comfortable, the shower ran hot, the DirectTV never went out, and we were able to get a great night's sleep in the comfortable bed. Everything was perfect.

I would keep in mind that it does have A/C (window units in the bedrooms), and utilizes a gas heater in the living room. In fact, the *only* issue we had was with the gas heater - and it was quickly fixed by the proprietor - no problem what-so-ever. We could not get the heater to stay lit, as the gas was turned off at the main valve. No problem, even though it was a holiday, the proprietor came over and fixed the situation for us very quickly - as I said, no problem what-so-ever. After that, the heater was easy to light and use, and was plenty warm enough.

Speaking of the proprietors, they were great. They were very friendly, were very responsive to the couple questions we had before hand, promptly fixed the one issue we hand, are were very easy to do business with overall. I would definitely recommend renting from them, no problem.

This cottage exceeded our expectations.

Great Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was great - very clean, updated, and well equipped. We misread the instructions regarding the keypad and had to call the owner late at night. He was very kind and understanding. We will probably go back when we can take the family with us. Very relaxing weekend.

Excelent place to spend a few days relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived On Monday afternoon of the 24th and left on Thursday morning the 27th. Would have loved to stayed longer, but we have doctors' appointments in the morning on Friday. So this was more or less a fact finding trip. Wanted to check out the lake and its accessibility and also the best route to get there from central NC. WE had a great time just checking the area out. Plan on returning sometime in the spring to do some fishing. Cozy Cottage was very accommadating for our needs. The kitchen is well equipped with the nescessities however it could use a slow cooker. The master bedroom bed was very comfortable. Enjoyed relaxing on the porch in the rocking chairs. Do not reccommend this place to seniors or people with trouble climbing steps, asthere are quite a few steps from were you park to the entrance of the cottage. All in all though a great trip. Thanks for letting us use your place.
