It was all that we expected and more!

We had a great time and will definitely consider returning to Seabrook! The house was as advertised and we really enjoyed the family atmosphere. Jack was great to work with and took care of everything! Could not have been more pleased!

Owner's Response: This was a large family group with varied interests and needs which is what both Seabrook Island and my home provide. My large kitchen, dining living areas and varied sleeping arrangements can accommodate a crowd. Information regarding nearby overflow space was provided. This group also expressed interest in golf, fishing, riding around the Island in a golf cart, etc - all of which are readily available. Evidently the combination of house and Island facilities made for a successful family vacation which is exactly what we want. I certainly appreciate this guest's remarks which reassures me that we are on the right track.

Awesome home built with love

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I discovered Seabrook Island in 2016. We wanted to treat our grown kids and our grandkids to a family vacation, which is the first time in a long time we have been able to get everyone together. We wanted to share Seabrook Island with them. We were so lucky to find Jack Hunt and his beautiful home that he is willing to share with others. From the first communication with Jack until now as I write this review, Jack has been nothing but awesome! Jack is so easy and accommodating to work with! From the moment we walked into the home, we knew this was the right place for our family time together! We spent a lot of time in the kitchen and gathered around the bar and dining table sharing meals, laughs and creating memories. The details in this home are is truly a home built with love!! Jack, thank you so much for sharing your Island home! We will be back!! The Morgan's

Owner's Response: It is reviews like these that make the effort worth while. The house was designed and built with our extended family in mind and not as a rental property. My best reviews come from family groups such as this. I provide the setting and the guests do the rest. What a nice win win situation for everyone. Jack

Very beautiful

  • 4 of 5

Overall lovely, however needed more towels, and tile floors were not really clean when we arrived, but beautiful property

Owner's Response: I am always concerned when a guest is not 100 percent satisfied. The entire first floor is porcelain tile which can occasionally show dust from the grout. I will encourage the cleaning crew to be especially vigilant when cleaning the tile. I normally provide a set of bathroom linens for every bed (12 sets). There is also a complete laundry facility if interim towel changes are desired.

Great Stay with Large Family&Dog!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I recently rented this property for a week over Easter break. Jack was nothing but accommodating to any questions/concerns. The house was the perfect fit for my extended family and I. The house was clean and orderly. The kitchen and screened in deck with perfect for a large group.

The location was perfect. We rented bikes (Jacks suggestion) and were able to get anywhere on the island quickly. In the mornings, we were able to walk to the dog to the dog beach area easily.

I would recommend this rental to everyone! Jack was a gracious host. We would go back for sure!

Owner's Response: I am pleased that Sheila and her family enjoyed the week they spent on Seabrook Island in my home. The great weather we had that week did not hurt. I had the pleasure of actually meeting Sheila and a number of her party. Yes, the rental bikes were lined up in the turnaround space in front of the garage when I arrived at the house on Saturday afternoon. Bicycling is my main mode of transportation on the Island as it is safe, scenic and scaled perfectly for that activity. Members of her family also took advantage of the discounted green fees I arranged for them. Hopefully, they played better than I do. The house was designed to accommodate my extended family which makes it work well for large parties such as Sheila's. I do hope they return.

Great 2-family vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

This house is perfect for two families with kids vacationing together. The kitchen is well-appointed. The master-suite is amazing. A second room with a double bed and bathroom is quite nice. There is a bunk room that sleeps five kids in single beds. And an office with a pullout couch.

But here's what made it amazing: The kitchen is so well-designed and well-supplied, it's clear the owner must also use this place. We did not find ourselves wanting for anything except food itself.

And there's A PIANO! So bring your instruments and get the band back together.

Owner's Response: What this guest left out is that the piano needs tuning. That was in her farewell note to me. I did explain that the piano was brought from Texas in a U Haul truck and manhandled up the front steps by four strong men (I was a bystander). That may have something to do with its condition. I will try to have it tuned this winter. Yes, I do winter there and do enjoy the house very much. It is people like this guest who make it possible for me to open my Seabrook Island home to other people.

About Jack Hunt

Our Seabrook Island home was custom designed and built in 2006 to accommodate our extended family shown above, yet it is comfortable for just one couple. Very flexible sleeping arrangements in five private rooms and 9 beds for up to 12 people are available. Living, cooking and dining facilities are commensurate. The kitchen was custom designed by the owner who is passionate about cooking and attended a week's boot camp at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA).

Jack Hunt purchased this house in 2006

Why Jack Hunt chose Seabrook Island

My wife and I first visited Seabrook Thanksgiving, 1982, with three other couples on a holiday getaway from the onset of winter in Delaware. What a wonderful vacation! We all played tennis, golf, road horses, walked the beaches and dined in the Island House while enjoying the perfect weather. Of course, we all immediately fell in love with the island and revisited it a number of times. Almost twenty years after our first visit and after looking at resorts all along the Southeast Coast, we bought a lot on Seabrook Island Road in 2001 and built our Seabrook Island home in 2006. Today three of the four original couples who first vacationed there in 1982, own a home in Seabrook or nearby Kiowa.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy taking our morning coffee on the east screened porch with the morning sun and views of the wooded landscape and adjacent lagoon. We are often entertained by the numerous birds and squirrels in the trees and occasional deer running through the yard.

One of my hobbies is cooking which I enjoy in the kitchen I designed. The key feature is the 5 burner DCS cooktop. I also enjoy grilling on the Big Green Egg on the deck. I extended the roof overhang to 4 feet to protect the grilling area from rain. My wife enjoys baking in the convection oven. We have a new combination microwave convection oven. I admit that I have not yet used the convection feature, but it will surely be useful when preparing holiday dinners for large crowds.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This guest sent us this note today: "We just wanted to let you know how much our family enjoyed our stay at your house in Seabrook Island. It was so nice to have such a beautiful place to bring everyone together. It was hard to leave that Saturday to come home. Easily could have stayed longer. We have been very busy since getting home and haven't had an opportunity to email you or put a review out but will be writing a review very soon. Thank you again for the use of your lovely home."

They also wrote: "I believe that we left everything in good shape and hope that it was satisfactory to you. With that being said, when can we expect our deposit back from you? Again, thank you so much for your hospitality and we will definitely want to stay there again."

They were evidently pleased and indicated they would be interesting in returning. We certainly hope so. They also indicated they left the house in good shape and wondered when their deposit would be returned. We do appreciate guests who leave the house in good shape and the great majority do so. Their deposit refund plus interest and those of two other guests were mailed later in the day. We were on vacation for two weeks staying the last week at a very nice VRBO rental in Ontario and as a result we did get a little behind. However, the interest paid did cover the two week delay in returning the refund.

Our favorite activity is bicycling. The streets are both safe and scenic and there new bikes paths to Freshfields Village and Kiowa Island. Our favorite Kiowa Island destination is Beachwalker Park. The beach there is total pristine but it is a county park with facilities. Sand on both Kiowa and Seabrook beaches is often hard enough to bicycle. If you go to the right, you can bike or walk almost all the way back to Seabrook - it is just across the mouth of the combined Kiowa River and Cap'n Sam's Creek. Rental bikes are available at nominal cost: about $35 per bike per week with free delivery and pickup.
