South Carolina House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms (including private study), 3.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps up to 12

Our 3 bedroom + private study, 3.5 bath home is surrounded on two sides by a lagoon on beautiful Seabrook Island. Amenities include a 5 person hot tub, ping pong table, canoe and kayak. Key features include a huge gourmet kitchen, great room with vaulted ceiling, 2 screened porches, deck with BGE BarBQ grill, 55' flat screen HDTV, complementary access to all the facilities of the Seabrook Island Club and access to two of the most pristine, uncrowded beaches on the East Coast.

Seabrook is a private gated community dedicated to maintaining the natural beauty of its live oak and pine canopies, quiet lagoons, tidal marshes and creeks, and pristine dunes and beaches. Yet it is also a premier resort offering two championship golf courses, world class tennis center, equestrian center and private club with dining, fitness and pool facility. A popular activity with the locals is cycling which is both scenic and safe on Seabrook Island.

Vacation theme:: Our favorite activities are biking along the quiet, well maintained streets circling and crossing the island and either walking or biking along the pristine beaches to watch the dolphins play off shore.

If you are looking for a quiet, but active vacation with your family or friends, this is the rental home for you. The home is new (finished the fall of 2006) and its design was inspired by the noted Southern Living architect, William Poole. With over 3200 square feet of living space plus an additional 1000 square feet of verandas, screened porches and decks, there is ample room for a large family or two smaller families or a number of friends vacationing together.

Description of house:: The spacious great room with its stone fireplace, 55' flat screen HDTV with premium Comcast cable TV/DVR service plus BlueRay DVD. The hickory shelving opens to the loft above and the open deck overlooking the lagoon where the Big Green Egg is located. On each side of the deck is a large screened porch. The east porch provides an outdoor dining option and the west porch houses the hot tub.Below this porch is the outdoor shower. Off the great room is the kitchen/dining area.

The kitchen is stunning - granite countertops, hickory cabinetry, DCS 5 burner gas cooktop, convection oven, convection microwave, over size refrigerator with front ice and filtered water dispensers, wine cooler, large double sink, etc. The peninsula and island with its prep sink provide extra work and seating space. The first floor master suite has bedroom with a king bed, a bath with heated floors, double vanity and large shower with dual heads, and walk-in closet. In addition there is a small ancillary bedroom and large connected laundry room.

Upstairs, the east bedroom has a queen bed, huge walk-in closet and private two head shower bath. The large west bedroom has three single beds and one set of bunkbeds. The bedroom has private access to the adjoining bath. The private study has a queen size pullout bed with both memory foam and air mattresses. The west bathroom can also be accessed directly from the loft.

Amenities and equipment available:: Our rental guests have access to all the amenities of the private Seabrook Island Club which includes two championship golf courses (one designed by Robert Trent Jones), 15 Har-Tru tennis courts, two pickleball oourts, equestrian center, fitness center, Beach Club, pools and dining facilities via a complementary amenity card. There is also access to the nearby newly renovated crabbing dock, trails, quiet streets and pristine beaches. Our rental guests also have access to the spectacular new lake side community center with its heated indoor/outdoor pool and extensive fitness facility.

We provide our rental guests with a kayak, inflatable raft and a canoe which can be paddled in the adjacent lagoon. Sail and power boats and kayaks can be rented at the nearby Bohicket Marina. A full size ping pong table, paddles and balls are available to our guests in the lower level. Bikes can be rented at reasonable cost and delivered to your door. Golf packages saving you 20% are available upon request. An exercycle is also available.

We provide a beach cart to carry you gear over the ramps crossing the dunes. A wide variety of beach toys including boogie boards, crab nets, beach umbrellas and chairs are also available to our guests.

We are currently offering a 15% discount over Labor Day week. For stays of two weeks or longer, additional discounts are available.

About Jack Hunt

Our Seabrook Island home was custom designed and built in 2006 to accommodate our extended family shown above, yet it is comfortable for just one couple. Very flexible sleeping arrangements in five private rooms and 9 beds for up to 12 people are available. Living, cooking and dining facilities are commensurate. The kitchen was custom designed by the owner who is passionate about cooking and attended a week's boot camp at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA).

Jack Hunt purchased this house in 2006

Why Jack Hunt chose South Carolina

My wife and I first visited Seabrook Thanksgiving, 1982, with three other couples on a holiday getaway from the onset of winter in Delaware. What a wonderful vacation! We all played tennis, golf, road horses, walked the beaches and dined in the Island House while enjoying the perfect weather. Of course, we all immediately fell in love with the island and revisited it a number of times. Almost twenty years after our first visit and after looking at resorts all along the Southeast Coast, we bought a lot on Seabrook Island Road in 2001 and built our Seabrook Island home in 2006. Today three of the four original couples who first vacationed there in 1982, own a home in Seabrook or nearby Kiowa.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy taking our morning coffee on the east screened porch with the morning sun and views of the wooded landscape and adjacent lagoon. We are often entertained by the numerous birds and squirrels in the trees and occasional deer running through the yard.

One of my hobbies is cooking which I enjoy in the kitchen I designed. The key feature is the 5 burner DCS cooktop. I also enjoy grilling on the Big Green Egg on the deck. I extended the roof overhang to 4 feet to protect the grilling area from rain. My wife enjoys baking in the convection oven. We have a new combination microwave convection oven. I admit that I have not yet used the convection feature, but it will surely be useful when preparing holiday dinners for large crowds.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This guest sent us this note today: "We just wanted to let you know how much our family enjoyed our stay at your house in Seabrook Island. It was so nice to have such a beautiful place to bring everyone together. It was hard to leave that Saturday to come home. Easily could have stayed longer. We have been very busy since getting home and haven't had an opportunity to email you or put a review out but will be writing a review very soon. Thank you again for the use of your lovely home."

They also wrote: "I believe that we left everything in good shape and hope that it was satisfactory to you. With that being said, when can we expect our deposit back from you? Again, thank you so much for your hospitality and we will definitely want to stay there again."

They were evidently pleased and indicated they would be interesting in returning. We certainly hope so. They also indicated they left the house in good shape and wondered when their deposit would be returned. We do appreciate guests who leave the house in good shape and the great majority do so. Their deposit refund plus interest and those of two other guests were mailed later in the day. We were on vacation for two weeks staying the last week at a very nice VRBO rental in Ontario and as a result we did get a little behind. However, the interest paid did cover the two week delay in returning the refund.

Great 2-family vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

This house is perfect for two families with kids vacationing together. The kitchen is well-appointed. The master-suite is amazing. A second room with a double bed and bathroom is quite nice. There is a bunk room that sleeps five kids in single beds. And an office with a pullout couch.

But here's what made it amazing: The kitchen is so well-designed and well-supplied, it's clear the owner must also use this place. We did not find ourselves wanting for anything except food itself.

And there's A PIANO! So bring your instruments and get the band back together.

Owner's Response: What this guest left out is that the piano needs tuning. That was in her farewell note to me. I did explain that the piano was brought from Texas in a U Haul truck and manhandled up the front steps by four strong men (I was a bystander). That may have something to do with its condition. I will try to have it tuned this winter. Yes, I do winter there and do enjoy the house very much. It is people like this guest who make it possible for me to open my Seabrook Island home to other people.

Great Home, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We have been enjoying Seabrook Island for several years now, but usually in short visits. Last month we spent a week on the island in a wonderful home and had a nice relaxing stay. Both my daughters and their significant others joined us, as well as a sister-in-law and her husband. The house accommodated all of us easily. Daughter #2's boyfriend is a chef and he cooked some fabulous meals in a kitchen that met all his various needs. The young folks also took advantage of the hot tub and everyone enjoyed several outings on rented bikes. The bike rental business is extremely competitive so prices, including pick up and delivery, were very reasonable. The two golf courses are some of the best you will ever play and the practice facilities are second to none.

The various members of our group enjoyed tennis, lunch by the sea, the pool, the beach, Fresh Fields shopping and a couple of day trips to Charleston. All the facilities at Seabrook are first class and the tranquility of the island can't be beat. If you are reading this you may have already decided to visit Seabrook so let me finish by commenting on our rental experience. Flawless is a word that comes to mind. Jack is a breeze to work with and all pre-trip transactions went smoothly. Arrival and departure were equally seamless. Jack even got us golf discounts while there. The house is everything you might expect, and more. The pictures do not do it justice. It was perfect for our needs and offered more opportunities than we could use. Logistically, the location on the island is ideal. We are already looking forward to a return trip next year.

Owner's Response: Reviews such as this are certainly appreciated. This family obviously took advantage of almost every amenity the area offers - it must have been a very busy week for them. Yes, the biking, tennis, golf, pool and beach facilities on Seabrook Island are very nice - I enjoy them all. Once there, I rarely leave the Island. I do want to comment on the cooking facilities which were mentioned. I am somewhat of a foodie myself and personally designed the kitchen. All the appliances except the cook top have been upgraded since the house was built in 2006. I have not come across a better cook top than the original 6 burner DCS unit. Of course, there is also the Big Green Egg on the open deck. I am certainly pleased that the chef in the group approves.

Annual SeaBrook Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Due to a last minute scheduling conflict with my wife's job we inquired about possible switching our week with another renter. Jack went above the call to help which allowed us to keep our vacation intact. The house had plenty of room for our two families and the location to the crab dock, boat ramp and beach access is great. We have stayed on Seabrook the last 8 summers and this is one of the best houses we have stayed in. We will be calling Jack next year

Owner's Response: We always try to help our guests in any way that we can. Typically, we forward Club event announcements, on line ads from the local supermarket, recommend services such as rental bike providers and local attractions, etc. However, in this case we were just lucky. The guest (who was returning this year) who had reserved the following week was willing to switch weeks. All I had to do was broker the deal. This degree of accommodation can usually only be provided by the owners of the rental properties. Direct contact with the owner is one and it may be the best reason to rent vacation properties through VRBO and HomeAway. Jack Hunt

Great Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Jack Hunt was very responsive and accommoded all our requests. He made the entire process easy and worry free. We love the vacation rental home and it's great layout with the chef's kitchen and living room area which goes out to 3 porches. Two of them are screened which our dogs really enjoyed. The bedrooms are large and bathrooms have great showers. The game room in the basement, the canoe, and the natural surroundings all added to the relaxing week. The layout of the house allowed everyone their own personal space and enough space for family game nights. The house is everything that is advertised - a beautiful house! We will recommend Jack's house to all our friends and family. We look forward to staying there again soon.

Owner's Response: This is exactly the review every property owner who rents through VRBO or HomeAway wants to see. We do try hard to make the fit between our offering and our guests' needs as good as possible. Fortunately, the great majority of our guests have appreciated our home and we certainly appreciate the good care they have taken. We also appreciate the time they take to submit a review. Most people (including myself) looking to rent or buy almost anything on line, read the reviews first. If you are browsing this review to determine if our house is the right place for you and your family to stay, please read this and the other reviews plus my comments. I think you will get a good idea of what is being offered. Jack Hunt - 302 740 7564

South Carolina Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

Family with adult kids and grandchildren came together for a family reunion. Jack Hunt was super accommodating and responsive with all of our needs. He made the entire process painless. The house is everything that is advertised; wonderful gourmet kitchen, comfortable screened porches that allowed us to play cards and board games, space with enough room for privacy. If our travels take us back to South Carolina, we will stay here again!

Owner's Response: Exceeding' expectations is a constant goal for us which notes from former guests indicate we do much of the time. However, we are fortunate in that exceeding expectations is a two way street for us. This guest asked what needed to be done to the house on departure morning. We normally leave this up to the guest. However, we did request the following guest to put on a washer load of bathroom linens before they left in order to jump start the cleaning process. The arriving guests requested an early check in because they were attending a wedding later that afternoon. The departing guests exceeded my request by doing several several loads of both bathroom and bedroom linens. That cooperation together with the property manager starting with our house first allowed us to provide the requested early check in a back to back rental situation.

The Creech pack gives a 4 Paws Up!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Me & my hubby recently stayed for the 2nd time with our pets at Jack Hunt's vacation home. We love the vacation rental home and it's great layout with the chef's kitchen and living room area which goes out to 3 porches. Two of them are screened which our dogs really enjoyed. The beds are comfortable and bathrooms have large showers and there's a tub upstairs. We really enjoyed being close to the crabbing dock and also having the house backing up to the lagoon. Jack even has a kayak and canoe for you to use. It's mid island location is great if you are a bike rider too. We saw a lot of wildlife. The kitchen is well equipped if your a cook and they everything you'll need to prepare meals. The Green Egg grill is great and there's also a hot tub too! Jack is so helpful and responsive and answered all of our questions. We will definitely be back! KoKo, Etta, Josie & Willie give a 4 Paws up!!!

Our favorite activity is bicycling. The streets are both safe and scenic and there new bikes paths to Freshfields Village and Kiowa Island. Our favorite Kiowa Island destination is Beachwalker Park. The beach there is total pristine but it is a county park with facilities. Sand on both Kiowa and Seabrook beaches is often hard enough to bicycle. If you go to the right, you can bike or walk almost all the way back to Seabrook - it is just across the mouth of the combined Kiowa River and Cap'n Sam's Creek. Rental bikes are available at nominal cost: about $35 per bike per week with free delivery and pickup.
