Overview

Portland House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + double futon, 1 Bath (Sleeps 3-5)

Lexie House is a cozy, comfortable, restored 1905 cottage tucked right into the middle of Portland's most coveted historic neighborhood.

Your friendly hosts live nearby, and are available to assist you or just leave you alone to enjoy your stay.

Antique and vintage furnishings, along with original fir floors and many wavy-glass windows, add to the cottage charm. But 'mod-cons' -- including high-speed WiFi internet, and flat screen HD TV with premium cable -- abound. Ten-foot high ceilings, with an open floor plan and lots of light.

In the master bedroom, there's a late-1800’s brass double bed, with a Tempur-pedic mattress. The smaller bedroom also boasts an antique brass bed, a single.

The spacious open living area offers a comfortable double futon, adjustable Morris chair, good reading lights, desk with high-speed Internet access, and TV with premium cable.

In the bathroom, there's a shower, tub -- and rubber duckies galore! Highchair, crib, playpen, changing table and stroller are available, as are roll-a-way and inflatable beds for your own visitors.

The fully equipped kitchen has a modern gas range and stainless steel fridge, dishwasher, microwave, cookware, dishes, herbs and spices, and (of course!) that Pacific NW essential: an espresso machine!

The utility room off the kitchen has a washer and dryer. The kitchen opens into a tranquil deck area, with two tables, chairs, a barbecue -- and the surrounding bamboo garden creating maximum privacy.

Sellwood Park, with its seasonal public pool and wonderfully equipped playground, is three long blocks away. Westmoreland Park -- playground and all -- is three blocks in the other direction.

The public library is on the next block. Funky or elegant restaurants, grocery stores, two Starbucks, and Sellwood's justly-famed Antique Row are all a stroll away. A four-block walk takes you to the New Seasons natural foods market.

Explore Oaks Bottom, renowned wildlife preserve -- or Oaks Park, America's oldest continually running amusement park!

Take the bus to Portland's downtown and east side shopping districts. Reed College, Lewis & Clark College and Law School, Oregon Health Sciences Universities and Portland State are all a ten-minute drive away.

Bicycles are available for renting.

Cute cottage in great neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5

Lexie House is a cute little cottage in a very pleasant area about 4.5 miles from downtown Portland. We gave our hostess, Susan, a heads up regarding our impending arrival and she was on the premises to greet us and show us how everything worked. The kitchen is quite adequate, but we didn't cook too much. Instead we patronized Jade next door (thank you Susan!), food trucks, and coffee shops, etc. all within easy walking distance. We also took the bus to downtown Portland, as well as the Max (light rail). Trips further away entailed our son carting us around as we did not rent a car. Sellwood is a very homey and safe neighborhood, if I were to move to Portland it would be my first choice! Incidentally, if you visit popular Voodoo Doughnut, I recommend the maple bacon bar most highly. All in all, Lexie House was a great find and we can't thank our gracious hostess enough!

A cozy jewel in the middle of everything!

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I stayed at this charming Victorian for three nights & really fell in love with it & its location. It's right in the middle of all the activities of Sellwood, yet so private & cozy. It has everything you might need & plenty of character (wonderful decorum touches by Susan). Lovely welcome by hostess, nice weather (lucky-lucky!) - and we got a perfect little vacation in Portland ! Hope to be back, Natalie & Elena

Stayed at Lexie House, Fell in Love with Sellwood

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I wanted to move to Portland and hoped to find a house in

SE Portland. Our hosts were very kind in allowing us to book the Lexie House for up to three months and made us very welcome there. We loved living in that wonderful neighborhood with all the great little shops and easy walk to parks, New Seasons store (now our favorite grocery) and, of course, Grand Central Bakery and Jade restaurant. Parking could be a challenge, but we so seldom needed our car. I especially loved that Jade is just around the corner. If I was feeling lazy and the aromas of their fine food were drifting in our direction, I could watch my favorite TV show, then pop around the corner during a commercial to place an order, then back during the next commercial

to pick up dinner.

Since we were staying during wintertime, we were happy to have the very efficient gas stove and the very comfy bed . And the free wifi made it possible for us to keep up with real estate offerings. Unfortunately, we didn’t find a Sellwood house but did find one in NE Portland. And when it looked like our closing date might be delayed, our hosts kindly offered to let us stay a few extra days. We love where we live now, but we still drive to Sellwood for our happy neighborhood fix. If you want to discover the city of Portland, we think Lexie House is the perfect place to start.

Perfect! But, shhhhh...

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Lexie House was wonderful. A fantastic host, a great location, and a cozy accommodation made this the perfect place for our family of four. We love the walkability of the neighbourhood with it's antique shops, natural foods store, and restaurants (esp "Jade"). This is the only place that I want to stay now when we come to Portland. We will have to book early next time though because apparently the secret is out!

Wonderful home in Sellwood

  • 5 of 5

This is a charming little house located. In the Sellwood district. It's a short walk to Sellwood park and the Willamette River. Restaurants and coffee shops are also within walking distance. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. We'll definitely stay there again on our next visit to Portland.

Perfect little home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

S, the owner of Lexie House, greeted us on the Monday afternoon we arrived, tired from a cross-country flight. She was there to welcome us and familiarize us with all the amenities LH had to offer. The cottage was charming, clean, and very well equipped. The full bed had a Tempurpedic mattress and there were lots of pillows available (a definite plus for us). We did not need to use the twin located in a small adjoining bedroom, but it gave us some room to store our luggage. The sitting area had a comfy futon, a classic craftsman-Frank Lloyd Wright-esque chair alond with a flat screen TV (cable and wifi included). The bathroom had a pedestal sink as well as a shower/tub combo. Lots of fluffy, clean white towels were there for our use. There was a precious campy side table on which we placed our toiletries. We later discovered it also contained a hamper!

So very cute. If we had needed to, we could have cooked any meal while we stayed in LH. The kitchen was very well appointed---excellent pots and pans, nice flatware, gas stove, dishwasher, full fridge, and microwave. (When you arrive, make sure you crack the ice trays into a plastic bowl. Then refill the trays so that you won't run out of ice 😆😆😆). There was also a cozy little table/chairs in the eat-in kitchen. There was even a stacked washer/dryer in the pantry area. The house is surrounded by bamboo and fencing. There was even a little sitting area right outside the back door where you could enjoy your morning

coffee. We felt completely safe since there was a deadbolt lock and a wrought iron fence protecting LH. S added a nice touch by leaving us some homemade cookies and a lovely bowl of fresh strawberries. Sellwood is a lovely quaint neighborhood that reminds us of Virginia Highlands in Atlanta. Make SURE that you go to Jade (at least once---we went TWICE!) which is just a few steps around the corner on 13th Ave. Would definitely return to Portland. We'd stay at LH and we would recommend it to al, friends and family. We were so glad we didn't stay downtown! We rented a car and went to the Columbia River Gorge/Mt. Hood area and to Astoria and the coast. Go and enjoy!
