This property is located just 12 miles from the center of Florence and from the moment you pass through the iron gates you will feel as though you have entered another world as time stands still. Nestled in the verdant hills of pristine Chianti landscape lies Le Valle, a 16th Century Casa Colonica. Many centuries ago it was a farm house and guard tower for the nearby Castello Mugnana. Magnificently restored 4 years ago the owners paid exquisite attention to every detail. Furnished with 18th century Country French antiques, chandelier lit throughout, and adorned with European fabrics and accessories, this home will at once take your breath away and make you feel enveloped by warmth.
The three bedrooms in the main house all have en-suite bathrooms. All of the beds have top of the line mattresses and the master has a Duxiana bed, said to be the finest in the world. The marble master bath has a soaking tub and two person steam shower. The kitchen has hand hewn French cabinetry, and is equipped with everything for the most discerning of gourmet cooks. The family room has a massive stone fireplace which can be used for cooking as well as an entertainment system and a vast selection of movies and music. The stone floors throughout and the thick walls provide a cooler temperature in the summer months although every window is screened and fans are provided.
The guest house, just across the front patio and down a few steps, has its own kitchen, marble bath, and fireplace and sleeps 4 comfortably. The property is ideal for three couples and/or families with children.
There are 3 separate terraces with tables and seating each with a more gorgeous view than the next. The BOSE Entertainment system provides music to the pool and patio areas. The tumbled marble salt water pool is 5x12 meters and has an electric cover. The pool area has lots of lounge chairs and large umbrellas for reading or sunbathing and there are vistas that overlook two nearby castles. There is an organic garden for the use of our guests adjacent to the wood fired pizza oven and barbeque where you can dine alfresco under the beautiful grape vine covered pergola.
There are miles and miles of hiking trails right outside the door and a Roman road which dates back over 2000 years. You can find waterfalls and a swimming hole within a 15 minute hike from the house. One of the best restaurants in Tuscany is a spectacular 1 hour hike from the property.
The Superstrada and Autostrada are within 15 minutes by car. The village of Strada in Chianti is 4 km away where there are a few restaurants, food markets and a pharmacy. The town of Greve is 8 km away where you will find a Saturday open air market, wine tasting, shopping and cafes. The towns of Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Pisa, Lucca, Montepulciano, and Montalcino are all close day trips from the property. Florence is 20 km away.
We welcome those who have an appreciation for beauty and history as Le Valle encompasses the best of Tuscan life.

We decided 11 years ago to move from the San Francisco Bay Area to Italy with our then 8 year old son for one year. That one year has turned into 11 years and we are still here! We bought our 'dream' house in the heart of Chianti 8 years ago and took a year restoring it. Our son is now attending university in America so we are dividing our time between California and Tuscany and have decided to rent our 'jewel.' All of the furnishing and accessories were purchased in France. We have shared our home with many, many guests over the years and everyone leaves yearning to return. We hope that whoever takes the home will create many wonderful memories and will treasures it as we do.
Jody Turkus purchased this villa in 2005
We chose Le Valle because of the absolutely magical setting and the history and 'good bones' of the structure. Located just 20 km from Florence we are in the country yet have the advantages of Florence less than 30 minutes away. Additionally, we appreciated the hundreds of miles of hiking trails right outside our front door. We never have to get in the car to hike to a wonderful restaurant, to see a waterfall or to pick wild berries and flowers.
Waking up to the sound of birds singing and the silence of the countryside. We look at a beautiful vista from every room of the house. The air is clean and the setting dreamy. Our local village of Strada in Chianti is close by so we can choose the best produce and local specialties from our merchants. We are the only American family, as far as we know in Strada, and the locals are very welcoming to us. We have over 300 olive trees and every Fall we harvest our olives and press our own delicious oil.
We spent a week at Le Valle in June 2016 to celebrate our parents 75th birthdays. My Mother has wanted to stay in a villa in Italy for the last 10 years and our entire family (10 people) comfortably fit into the home and fully enjoyed our time there.
The home and it's amenities, surroundings, and hospitality all exceeded our expectations. The house is impeccably decorated and very comfortable, and the kitchen, which we used, was a wonderful muse to inspire our creations. Barry, the owner, affectionately referred to my Brother and I as the "Pizzaiolo brothers" since we made good use of the wood-burning pizza oven and grill and our kids became adept baristas with the professional-grade espresso machine. Fabrizio, our gracious chef created both an amazing welcome dinner and lunch during our stay. We were amazed at his ability to create and serve such wonderful dishes by himself.
All recommended wineries, restaurants and tours did not disappoint, and we feel that the direct connection to the American owners with all thier insight into the area made the stay even more special. We ventured up and down route SR222 and got lost in the beauty, tastes and smells of the Italian country side. The home's location was perfect to fully experience the Tuscany region.
We will always remember our stay at Le Valle, recommend it highly, and will absolutely stay there again.
We can't thank Barry and Jodi enough for letting us enjoy their home. Highest regards....
Every dreamed about going back hundreds of years and being dropped into a villa in Tuscany? Well, if the answer is yes, this place is for you. This villa has all that and then some to spark your imagination as you sit back and watch the sunset over rolling hills with a glass of Sangiovese. My wife and I had our honeymoon here and it was everything we could have hoped for! The villa itself is so stunning; we found ourselves starring at each room several times during the day. The stonework and wood beams throughout the house symbolize character and strength. You can tell that Barry and Jody (property owners) went through great pains to "modernize" this villa and turn it into a home, their home, which they generously share with others. The decor is just right, every room makes you feel welcomed and if you think the villa is impressive, check out the furniture. I personally enjoyed the kitchen as I like to cook and did so twice, once inside and once outside on the grill. Yes, there is a grill and pizza oven too! However, if this is not for you, give Fabrizio a call. He's a chef that comes highly recommended. He's a master of his craft and he even showed us how to make "parmigiano bowls". We had his cooking the first night and it lasted us about three days...it was pure heaven, no exaggeration! So, what else does this villa have to offer? Glad you asked. Amazing pool with a view, pergola with grapevines begging you to pick at them, many different herbs/fruits/vegetables around the villa (rosemary, apples, olives, beans, tomatoes, etc.) pulling your nose in every direction, espresso machine, SAT TV/BOSE system, ping pong table and many table games. Moving along, my beautiful new bride and I rented a car and we explored many different places during our week long stay. We visited Florence (~ 20 minutes) away, went to Siena (~ 40 minutes away), toured two castles in the area (Verrazzano & Gabbiano) and ate at several local restaurants. The drive on the "curvy" country roads was fun for us too, what a view! So in short, this villa is very accessible to many different places. Special thanks to Peter and Magi (property managers for Barry and Jody). They greeted us the first day and gave us the grand tour of the villa and live only a short distance away should anything come up. Also, Valeria (housekeeper) came every morning to make the beds, clean the dishes and freshen up the house. She is very sweet! Thank you everyone from the bottom of our hearts, WHAT A HONEYMOON!
We stayed at Le Valle for two weeks to celebrate our 70th birthdays with our two daughters, two sons in law, and two granddaughters aged 7 and 9. We were able to communicate directly with Barry, the owner, and Fabrizio the chef (other Internet villa sites prevented us from speaking directly to the owner).
The previous guest commentaries say it all! The Villa has been beautifully restored and furnished and our granddaughters loved it; but it would not be ideal for young hyperactive boisterous children needing close supervision! The children loved the superb saltwater pool - much nicer than chlorine. It is quite deep for a small child even at the shallow end.
Fabrizio welcomed us with a magnificent supper, and as he has two children of similar ages to our two grandchildren he was very sympathetic both to their likes and dislikes and to their wish to “help” in the kitchen. We engaged him for four more meals and asked him to prepare a double dose of roast beef on one occasion and cold salmon on another, providing two evening feasts for the price of one! And we loved the espresso machine.
Two practical points: we suggest visitors set the satnav at the airport to take you first to Strada in Chianti, where you can stock up with Sunday breakfast essentials. Try to buy maps in advance -there are excellent maps of the region at one in 200,000, and of Chianti at one in 25,000.
It was unusually hot during our stay, reaching 39°C - the Villa does not have air conditioning but you can stay cool if you adopt the Mediterranean lifestyle of early rising (usually), afternoon siesta, evening swim and careful opening and closing of shutters and doors at the appropriate times (there are insect screens on all windows so you can leave them open). We did the 3 mile hike from the Villa on three occasions, starting soon after sunrise, and saw wild boar and deer.
The Villa’s guidebook recommends Castello Gabbiano for the restaurant and cellar tour - don’t miss either. Visit the tourist office in Greve as soon as possible after arrival. They have info on cultural events in the area, and on our last evening we heard Bach’s Goldberg variations arranged for string trio, in the ancient church of Pieve di S.Leolino a Panzano - a magical venue set on a hill, from where we watched the sunset over the Tuscan countryside; it was followed by a generous free buffet and local wine sponsored by one of the estates. A perfect end to a perfect holiday.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Le Valle and wish we were back there! The villa is spacious and comfortable and accommodated our group of 9 nicely (5 adults and 4 kids). The kids absolutely loved the pool, and it was so nice to have dinners on the outside patio. Fabrizio's fabulous cooking and good company were definite highlights - he came 4 of our 7 nights. We enjoyed day trips suggested by Peter and Magi and really appreciated the detailed information provided ahead of time and at the villa by Barry and Jody. We were glad to be able to feel like we were in the Italian countryside and yet be able to reach Florence in 30 to 40 minutes. For better or worse, we were a group of 4 lawyers so can attest that the wifi worked reliably, the dining room made for a good work space when necessary, and it was useful to have a phone where we could make calls to US landlines. We were there for a particularly hot week, and it got a little uncomfortable for sleeping by the end of the week, but I doubt there are very many air conditioned villas so I think that's just part of the experience (but frankly not something I had thought about in the planning stage). We would definitely recommend Le Valle without hesitation - and hope to be back again ourselves.
Dear Barry and Jody,
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing Le Valle with us. What a magical and memorable holiday! For our 50th birthday celebration my husband surprised our two kids age 9 and 6 along with me by planning an Italian Fantasy come true. Our surprise included the company of his sister, plus my sister, her husband, and their daughter (age 15). The eight of us were all able to “Live the Dream” in Tuscany.
From the moment our family arrived though the iron gates we were captivated by the beauty of the home. The sound of the fountain upon arrival mixed with the perfume of lavender, flowers, fresh herbs, and the country air immediately welcomed us home. The house was spectacular and wonderfully equipped with all we could ask for. The home itself is living beauty. It is impeccably furnished as though from a design magazine.
The home was spacious and we spent our moments poolside or dining al fresco on the many terraces. Mornings were met with a cup of cappuccino and open air. We looked forward to the evening visits by the wild boar enjoying the fruit from your trees.
Being close to Florence we were in a great location to enjoy the region. We spent day trips in Sienna, Florence, Lucca, and of course the nearby wineries. We always looked forward to coming back to Le Valle.
We truly appreciated the wonderful meals and expertise shared by Chef Fabrizio. Magi and Peter were fantastic as managers and served as ambassadors to the area. Thank you to Valeria for providing us with assistance each day around the villa. All of them helped us to enjoy ourselves more thoroughly though that seemed impossible.
The week came to an end all too quickly. We will always have our beautiful memories as well as our dreams of returning back.
Grazie, Grazie, Grazie!

Exactly as advertised. Agree with all the reviews. We were very pleased, with 8 people (2 families of 4) worked out perfectly with the main house and the guest house. We miss the cooking by Chef Fabrizio already. Beautifil gardens flowers and fresh vegitables. Sunset each evening with wonderful dinner by Frabrizio was wonderful. Enjoyed hiking on the trail and seeing deer and hogs. Close to many great vineyards in the chaniti area and yet close to florence for day trips. Can't wait to come back!!!
Many famous wineries are within 20 minutes drive of the house. Some of them are Fonterutoli, Castello Verrazzano, Castello Gabbiano,Castello Vicchio Maggio and the Antinori estates. We are 15 minutes from the Super Strada to Sienna and 15 minutes to the Autostrada A1 to go north or south. The famous town of Greve in Chianti is 10 minutes away where you have open air markets, wine tasting and restaurants.
