Why Edward L Delaney, Ph.D. chose Cotton Valley
We sailed throughout the Carribean over the years, but only discovered St Croix in recent years. We wondered how we missed this beautiful island, but immediately fell in love with its natural wonders, rich culture and wonderful people. So purchasing Cotton House was an easy decision. We began extensive rennovations immediately and agrred to allow Cotton House By the Sea to be featured on the Landmark House Tour in 2005. Every year we add addiitonal featured In 2014 we have replaced all appliances, added fans and lovely latterns to our gallery and pool side. We love the property and see that it gets loving care each year. .
What makes this Villa unique
Cotton House By the Sea is set in botanical gardens that offer complete privacy. Gates mark the entrance, sweet smelling frangepani, palm trees, night jasmine, and gardenia hedges line the walkway in to the front door. The property has dozens of types of hibiscus, palms trees, bougainvillea, and rare plantings. A lush fern garden is planted just outside of the master bathroom, A large cabana set amidst the greenery, by the pool offers shelter form the sun. Gracious living is the hall mark of Cotton House with gourmet kitchen, multiple areas for dining (inside dining room, gallery dining, or pool side dining). A gabled cedar ceiling rises above all rooms, glass enclosures provide privacy while preserving the open sense of this architectural feature. Our Vice President has stayed for the last 3 years on our Beach. . The views of sail boats going to Buck Island, wind surfers occasionally off our Bay, and the blue green water furnish breath taking views and entertainment. Pool side offers a Lynx grille for cooking out. Each bedroom has its own private access to the pool and the Sea. There is no more beautiful water front location on St Croix. The house is 4 miles east of the Buccaneer Hotel. There are numerous opportunities for hiking, swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing. We are an easy drive to Point Udall, the eastern most point in the U S, where sun rise over the Ocean is an exceptional experience.. Beautiful beaches are easily reached in either direction and our Bay is always present for swimming or snorkeling. All water toys can be provided and used just off the front beach side lawn. Our gardener has been caring for this property for over 20 years and has an exceptional touch for creating a unique tropical floral experience. He is delightful and great to know. For beauty, relaxing, and local experience, Cotton House is exceptional.. The house was professionally decorated by professional interior designers and featured on the Island House Tour

Everything about the villa was great
Tucked away gem on St Croix
Property and house were in great shape. Beautifully decorated! Unbelievable view, right on the shore, of Buck Island. Pool was excellent as well. Convenient to everything.
Not lacking for anything! Would definitely recommend to others!
glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your return. Best wishes, Ed & Betty
A perfect retreat in paradise
Few homes can boast the tranquil luxury and gorgeous views that Cotton House villa provides to it's visitors. The home itself is completely private, though not isolated. Everything one could possibly need is at your fingertips. The owners have left nothing undone, from the large extremely well stocked kitchen to the beautiful furnishings, to the outside covered patio which provides a wealth of seating and jaw dropping views. A few steps leads you to the huge pool area, complete with grill and a covered dining area, all surrounded by beautiful plants. A few more steps lead you to the beach. Cotton House is an absolutely spectacular home. This was our second stay at this beautiful property and we highly recommend it.
Beautiful, comfortable house, spectacular views.
The house is much more special than we expected. Each room is wonderfully decorated. We particularly liked the outdoor shower in the second bedroom. The large well equipped kitchen was a joy! The covered porch with its overview of the sea and Buck Island was where we had the most fun--eating, enjoying our friends, just reading on one of the chaises as the warm wind blew over us.
The property was pristine and spotless. The owners provided material on the local sights and restaurants that were very useful. We enjoyed the restaurant and beach at the Buccaneer Hotel which was close by. Those of us who are outdoorsy loved the hike at Udall Point. All in all we had a great week!
Three couples stayed in Cotton House and had a wonderful time. It felt like we were staying in a private resident not a rental. The place is immaculately kept inside and out. We enjoyed the pool daily along with the fine views of Buck Island from the veranda. Located on the eastern end away from the hustle and bustle of down town Christiansted, it is still accessible to the attractions of St. Croix. We highly recommend staying there.
Cotton House, a tropical movie setting
Imagine waking up in an exquisite bedroom overlooking the azure Caribbean Sea! The house is as described, and more. It sits on the water with fantastic views. It is that rare combination of posh and comfortable; clean, well-equipped and maintained. We particularly enjoyed the pool and the large verandah where we had evening cocktails on sometimes dinner. The East End is near many restaurants, both upscale and local. There are beaches and nature trails. It is an easy ride into Christiansted for a bit of shopping. We most highly recommend this property.
Other Activities: Parasailing, Boating, Shopping, Kayaking, great beaches, sailing, trips to, Buck Island National Park and Snorkel Trail. Only 2 miles from St Croix Yacht Club (reciprocity with other Yacht Clubs possible).NOTEBOOK FOR OUR GUESTS PROVIDES DETAILS FOR BEST RESTAURANTS, PHYSICAL FITNESS/SPA SERVICES, HISTORY/'ARCHAEOLOGY, BEST BEACHES/BEST SOURCES FOR LOCAL FOODS AND GROCERIES, RAIN FOREST TRIPS, COMMUNITY THEATER, WHIM PLANTATION CONCERTS, PADI LESSONS, BEST SNORKEL AND DIVE AREAS, DEEP SEA FISHING TRIPS, OUR FAVORITE ISLAND CELEBRATIONS-CARNIVALS AND JUMP UPS, AGRICULTURAL FAIR, AND OUR FAVORITE OTHER ISLAND EXPERIENCES.
While difficult to summarize all we love about this Island, our HOUSE NOTEBOOK tries. A few examples
Best Beaches-Ours, The Mermaid & Grotto Beaches at the Buccaneer (have lunch and swim), Grapetree, Shoys go to the West End for lunch at the Beach Front Cafe and enjoy their beautiful beaches.
Snorkel-Cane Bay, Buck Island, Isaac's and the west end of the Divi Beach--and our Bay
Physical Fitness-walk/jog the Buccaneer running trail-park car in the parking lot before the Guard House and proceed to the seft for signs--about 3 miles
Go to the Whim Plantation for a conert watch This Week In St Croix for schedules
Botanical Gardens are a treat- we love the full moon tours
Udal Point - a visit is a must -only 4-5 miles east - sun rise or full moon nights are favorites
Christiansted is the most beautiful town in the Caribbean-shop the Danish Colonial colorful arcades, lunch on the most beautiful harbor anywhere in the world
Dining is an endless exploration of fine restaurants-Savant, Uptown (David Kenwick is world class
chef), Galangal (great food with Thai twist and decor authentic), Balters (local themes-fine food), The Reef (to open again soon-post hurricane-best seafood anywhere-local fish and lobster)), Un Amore (great Italian-2 for 1 wine nights on Thurs), The Deep End Bar for open mic night, disco bingo, and crab races, Blue Water Terrace, Cultured Pelican (good food and within a mile of our house). Just some of our favorites---we also love excursions to the West End-Fredericksted is fun on cruise ship days and good food as well.
We recommend going to Buck Island with either Toro or our Island musician and sailor L Westerly from the Yacht Club--a Must if you like beautiful beaches and snorkeling
Favorite shop for the Hook Bracelet---visit Sonyas-the creator of the Hook
Never ever miss an opportunity to attend Carnival or a Jump Up. If there not on the calendar when you are visiting, try to time your visit for another year to include. The music and the Moko Jumbies are wonderful. Second best is to try to find a 'Caribbean Night' at the Palms or Island on the Cay. The music is unforgettable and we love seeing the Moko Jumbies--never gets old.
The south shore is beautiful and far less visited. Plan a derive pass the plantations and farm land, visit the local produce farm, go to the Farmer's Markets (all schedules will be in "This Week In St Croix" an essential guide) during your visit and available everywhere.
We are most fortunate that the Sea Side Market is within a few miles of our house and has all basics/bakery/ good wines. Fresh produce comes in on Mon so you might want to time your marketing. Enjoying the island fresh and local fruits, fish, and vegetable is a plus. Ask are the farmer's markets for the Chocolate Fruit. This fruit looks something like an avocado but when scooped out and whipped with a little milk taste just like Choc moose. Or go to Quality Foods--the source of wholesale food for the Island Restaurants. Great deals are tenderloin (cuts to filet at home), frozen Key Lime Pie (if you don't make your own---Cotton House has its own lime tree which might be in production when you visit),
Off the Wall on the north shore was reported by the Washington Post to have the best sunsets in the World.--try a sunset rum punch. The best bar on the Island is the long curved mahogany bar at the Buccaneer--go after sunset to have a drink before or after dinner and enjoy the lovely twinkling lights of Christiansted in the distance...Island breeses are always a joy there and Island music on many nights.
Don't forget to reserve time to just relax in the private gardens beside the white tiled pool at Cotton House with its extraordinary views of the clear blue green waters and Buck Island. It is one of our favorite things in the whole world. Read Life In the Left Lane by Emmy Thomas--on our book shelf to get a real flavor for St Croix, the largest of the US Vrigin Islands.
Within 6 or less miles from our house, your will find running trails, snorkeling trails and Bays, Udall Point, many of the best restaurants on the Island (most listed above), golf, the Yacht Club, Tennis, (at the Buccaneer or Green Cay Marina), Buck Island National Park, many of the Islands best beaches and the most beautiful gardens (ours). There is every reason to visit/return
