Originally I looked for an apartment in the 6th because I practiced for 20 years as a dentist rue du Cherche-Midi and I loved the area. It is lively, arty, full of old beautiful buildings, restaurants, art galleries, universities. For 2 years I had been looking around without finding anything corresponding to my criteria; After 2 years, through a patient of mine, I was shown this apartment which is in the 7th When I saw it I felt immediately in love with it.
What I love about our apartment is the fact that it is like a private mansion in a lovely courtyard, belonging to an old, elegant building dating probably from around 1840. It is so quiet and private that when spring comes all you hear are the birds. These exceptional conditions are 2 minutes away from St Germain des Prés, the Café de Flore, Café des Deux Magots, the wonderful bookstores l'Ecume des Pages, la Hune, both opened until midnight (exceptional in Paris) the University of Sciences Po (Political Sciences) in our street, lots of antique shops. It is so nice to live in the centre of cultural life.
We loved spending time with John and Muriel. They were great hosts and helped us out of many jams!! The place was what it was described as. It is a basement apartment but has good lighting and air flow. No true kitchen but a microwave and small refrigerator. Good for storing whatever you might pick up at the market for snacking on. GREAT location to get to most locations by foot or on the subway once you learn the system.
This was our honeymoon and would go back again just to spend time with John and Muriel!!
My wife and I stayed from Sept 5th to Sept 11th, 2014. The communication about the stay prior was excellent. We arrived to be greeted with coffee and Muriel (the owner) explaining all the details of the apartment. The apartment as seen in the pictures has a living room with a sleeper sofa, chair, table with chairs, cabinet with glasses and utensils. A microwave, mini-fridge, hot water pot, french press coffee maker, etc. There is plenty of closet space for bags and clothes. The shower was tiny but the water pressure was extremely powerful. The bed is two singles made into one double. It is very comfortable.
The best thing about the place is the location. It is a 3-5 walk to either the Rue de Bac or St. Germain des Pres Metro station. It is located among many shops and cafes. It was a 7-10 walk to the Louvre and Jardin de Tullieries. The area is extremely safe as the Police department is right around the corner from the apartment.
Muriel and John were the most gracious hosts. We had some luggage issues and they were more than accommodating with our issue. Would highly, highly recommend this property.
We loved this apartment! It was super clean and comfortable. While there is no kitchen, there was a fridge and microwave, etc to make our own snacks or eat food purchased at the traiteur. The apartment is located in a nice neighborhood and an easy walk to all of central Paris. We also appreciated being on the ground floor and yet it still was quite secure. Our host was welcoming and helpful. The apartment is cozy but is more spacious than any Paris hotel. I highly recommend it.
My 14 y/o daughter and I spent 2 weeks in France and 4 nights at this great little apartment in Paris. Was very private and secluded and a block or so of Blvd St. Germain Des Pres. This was extremely convenient to getting around and getting to a number of metro stations.
We spent one more night in Paris much later in the trip and stayed at a hotel that cost nearly 100eu more and was about 1/4 the size and quality.
I would highly recommend this apartment as a wonderful base of operations for staying in Paris. For our next trip this will be one of the first places we reach back out to.
This studio is extremely quiet and very private; you'd never know you were in such an urban location. The owner is helpful without being solicitous. If you want to walk to museums, this is a perfect location. The Louvre and the Musee D'Orsay are within 10 minutes or so. There is a giant grocery store less than 10 minutes walk away too, and the Metro is also very close. It's a straight shot on purple from Gare du Nord. It's really a good location no matter what you're doing in Paris.
The bed is super comfy; I was alone so I don't know how the beds would be pushed together. The bedroom has a lot of character- an arched stone ceiling. The bathroom is big enough and there's great water pressure. The living room isn't as cute and the couch is bit saggy. The living room isn't a great set up for making snacks and coffee, which is mostly what you'd be doing since there's not a kitchen. A bit more of a set up for dealing with food would go a long way. It's also a bit weird to wash dishes in the bathroom sink, but that's the option at the moment.
I found the picture a tiny bit misleading. I expected a little outdoor area, and that isn't really the case. I had some trouble with the internet at first but it seemed to get better. The owner said that others had not had any trouble so perhaps it's about how many people are accessing it at the same time.
In general, for the price, this is a good find.
We could not have found a more perfect flat! The location was superb for walkers and in a neighborhood of marvelous restaurants. Our landlords could not have been more charming and helpful. The accommodation was easily accessed without recourse to stairs. The lack of a kitchen did not bother us as we had no intention of cooking in Paris but there was a small refrigerator, electric kettle, microwave, coffee maker and toaster so the necessities were easily accomplished. Note that Parisian microwave meals are every bit as foul as American ones. As the garden level was partially subsurface the toilet and shower pumps were noisy but we were able to adjust our timing. The shower itself was superb. Wi-Fi was best accessed in the bedroom but nonetheless was available. The library had an excellent assortment of maps and guide books. All in all, a superior base of activity with warm, welcoming hosts.. We would suggest a concert at St. Chappelle for a perfect evening's entertainment and a mystical submersion in history. Borrow Muriel's shopping trolley for a trip to the laundromat; it is a bit of a hike! I would come back here in a flash...no hotel for me! The accommodation reflected the listing description and photographs perfectly, was clean and well maintained.
