How my extended family ended up staying in this house was due to unforeseeable circumstances. Four hours before our scheduled arrival at VRBO #4216551, we were notified that the property was "uninhabitable." Thanks to the notable efforts of Josh Ohanian (general manager) at Sanctuary Vacation Rentals, the integrity of our 4 generational family reunion vacation was preserved. He secured alternate housing for us by way of 2 properties. We stayed at this one plus the guest house (276376) for 3 of 4 nights.

One of our favorite features of this home is the location. It is almost oceanfront, with the Monterey Bay in view from several rooms. Sounds of the waves could be heard indoors, which was therapeutically soothing. This property is within walking distance of numerous local attractions, including Lover's Point, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, and downtown Pacific Grove. Many of our fond memories are the beautiful sights and scenery experienced on foot.

The house itself is lovely. The floor plan lends itself well to mealtime, group activities, and sleeping (4 bedrooms upstairs away from group interactions downstairs plus 1 more in the guest house).

Several minor suggestions that could enhance future guests' visits include:

A. Install locks in the bathrooms.

B. Add a few more kitchen utensils/supplies. It is not as well stocked as our other VRBO stays, making meal preparation a bit challenging.

Even though we specified a 2 twin beds arrangement (in lieu of 1 king), housekeeping was unable to accommodate us on this request. Presumably, this is because they lacked adequate notice of our pending arrival caused by the last minute cancellation of the original booking.

Absolutely fantastic! Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the main Yellow House for our son's wedding. We are seasoned home away/vrbo travelers and have stayed in many homes throughout the country over the years. The Yellow House was simply wonderful!! The property was very clean and the listing description was spot on. Natural light filled the home and the relaxing sounds of the ocean could be heard from all the bedrooms. The view of the ocean from the main sitting room was amazing. Irma the house manager was great~ so pleasant and responsive to our questions and needs. The overall energy to this home was simply wonderful! I desired a 'home away from home" for my family and friends as we embraced the week leading up to our son's Carmel wedding and the Yellow House provided just that. Driveway parking was convenient, along with ample street parking, allowing family and friends to come and go as we prepared, visited, and enjoyed the time before the wedding day. Also, the location was convenient to walks along the water, trips to grocery stores and such, as well as lunches and meals on Lighthouse Ave. Highly recommend the home. Delightful stay.

Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

This is our 3rd time staying at the Little Yellow House. This is our favorite retreat for so many reasons. Pacific Grove/Monterrey is an amazing outdoor playground and I feel like we will never run out of things to do. The house is amazingly comfortable to stay in. It has a fully stocked kitchen for cooking nearly any type of meal, nice serving ware, comfortable/good quality furnishings, and is beautifully maintained. We had two families staying in the big house with 5 children and there was plenty of room for all. The house is definitely kid friendly. Irma (the owner) is a delight and very responsive to our few questions that came up during our stay. This will be an annual trip for us and can't wait to come back next year!

My third time staying in the Big Yellow House; first time for my wife and sisters-/brothers-in-law.

Location and amenities were outstanding, and I'm a hero for having selected it.

We will definitely return.

Thanks for making such a great place available.
