Just stayed here January 22 to February 3rd and had a fantastic time. There was 8 adults and 3 kids under 3 and there was plenty of room for everyone. It is located at the end of town near the lagoon nice and quiet area. Akumal beach was about a 20 minute walk and about 30 mins to the highway. We rented a golf cart for the week for $250 usd and came in handy. I would totally stay here again.
Very enjoyable week at Casa Tucan. We spent the prior week at a nearby location but wish we would've done both weeks at Casa Tucan. We had 2 families with room to spare. Anytime spent at the house was pool time for the kids. They loved the pool. Small corner stores a quick stroll away, 4 or 5 restaurants very close with more in nearby Akumal, great snorkeling in Half Moon Bay and Yalku Lagoon, all make this an easy vacation getaway. The water in Half Moon Bay is incredibly warm. Kids Loved it. Not on the beach but a very short stroll away. Lots of turtles and got to see the Giant Parrotfish feeding in Yalku Lagoon. Harmless but a little intimidating due to their size.
Jorge, the property manager, is a great resource and quick to address any concerns. Very nice fellow. Quick to give directions and recommendations in an area filled with outdoor adventure and archeological treasures.
We will tell our friends about Casa Tucan
we had 3 couples stay at the casa from feb 12 to feb 21 2014. sibylle was more than accommodating as we added guests and we had a great time. Jorge and his dog bully entertained us off and on and he was a wealth of information on the area and where to go etc.
we usually do the all inclusive but we had a great time going out to eat at the local restrants , lol ha and gynn-ak were our favorites. the location is a short walk to yalku lagoon for great snorkeling and if your a snorkeler or a diver I highly recommend the akumal beach to see turtle , rays etc and please dive with our dear friends Natalie and ivan of dive with Natalie and ivan. look them up and make arrangements on facebook or at their website. over all a great week and we are going back in feb 2015 for the same dates, the casa is well kept, the pool is very nice and the maid service was great. the local restrants are really cheap and have great food, we also ate chicken grilled by the locals , it was awesome too and sold right at the little store just a short walk from the casa.
We had a lovely stay in this spacious house! Nicely decorated, everything you need is there, and even with 8p + a baby, it never felt crowded. Very recommended. However if you dont like to walk much, its good to rent a bike/golfcart/car, as the prettiest beach/'downtown-Akumal' is a 20min walk. The beautiful lagoon is almost nextdoor though.
Also Jorge is a very kind manager.
My husband and I rented Casa Tucan for almost four weeks in December-January, where three family members joined us for much of the time. This is not a perfect house but it worked really well for us. Its location, within about five minutes walking distance of outstanding snorkeling in Yal-Ku Lagoon, and--in a different direction--the beach at Half Moon Bay, was excellent, though it could be less appealing for those who weren't interested in snorkeling. The pluses of the house--particularly the reasonable cost--definitely outweighed the negatives.
The house itself was really spacious, probably its biggest plus. We could all choose to be together or find a peaceful place to be alone. Even the hallways were a generous size. On the main level, as you can see by the website photos, is an open living/dining/kitchen area, as well as a bathroom with a shower. On the second level, there are actually four bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The master suite, with patio doors leading out to the upper deck, is particularly nice. There's also a biggish TV room with a large flat-screen TV and a VCR, and patio doors to the deck. This deck would have been a great place to sit if it had been equipped with something other than armless plastic chairs. A stairway leads from the second level to the roof, with distant views of the ocean, which unfortunately couldn't be used at all as it had no seating. As this had been a family home, there is an amazing amount of excellent storage available throughout the house--countless shelves, cupboards, closets.
Between the peaceful road and the front of the house is a small but very nice pool and pool deck with mesh loungers, which we really enjoyed. The adjoining covered patio off the living/dining areas, which you can see in the photos, had no drainage, so rain blowing in and water shipped over the pool edge collected there, which was less than wonderful. This was another area that would have been much nicer if there had been something more comfortable than very basic plastic chairs.
There were definitely-less-than-perfect aspects of the house, but these were offset by the positives. For a more extensive review go to FlipKey, under the same heading.
My family and I (three couples of different ages) stayed here over the New Year and we had a great time. The house was very comfortable for the 6 of us who aren't used to living together! We enjoyed the pool and proximity to the beach and lagoon (where the fish were really cool). The maid service was excellent. The house is a little distant from the main beach (where we saw turtles) - we usually took the car and parking was busy in the town no doubt due to the holiday period. Many sites to visit nearby (cenotes, ruins, beaches etc.) - we wished we could have stayed longer. Only pests were a few mosquitoes (more here than at Chichen Itza), but with repellant this was fine. Definitely highly recommended.
