Charming, and great quiet location.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay. Forresta, was so peaceful and quiet, a nice retreat from the crowds of the park. The downstairs has a bedroom with the main bathroom (shower/tub), as well as the kitchen and living area. All spacious and comfortable. The upstairs is an open loft, that also has a bedroom. The upstairs bathroom is part of the open area of the loft, with a sink and toilet. The open area has two queen beds, and then a small single bed. The bedroom, had another queen bed. Our only issue was low water pressure with the kitchen sink, which may just have been temporary...but that didn't stop us from enjoying every minute we spent there. I highly recommend staying here. The house is also the last house on the top of a little knoll, just open land behind it with beautiful views in all directions.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, We are very glad you enjoyed your stay at Half Dome View Home, Foresta. Indeed, the views are incredible into Yosemite Valley and also out west over the Merced Canyon for sunsets. Thank you for telling us about the kitchen faucet which since has been fixed and all is in good order. Come back sometime! Thank you.

Great location, nice place

  • 2 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at this cabin, which is an old-style log home. It is close to Yosemite Valley, has wonderful views out picture windows, great decks (which we didn't use in winter), a nice sitting area for a group, an adequate kitchen, and plenty of beds. It says 3 bedrooms, but it is really two bedrooms and an open loft, so in our case, we had 3 couples, and one couple had no privacy. It would be great for a family though, as there is lots of sleeping space. We were unhappy with the fact that the price quoted on VRBO is for 4 people, and then they add on a per-person charge over that. I thought this was misleading, since the final quoted price was considerably higher than we anticipated when we started the booking process. Overall, we were very happy with our stay though.

Peaceful, spacious, clean, beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed three nights at the Half Dome View home and it worked perfectly for our family. We used the home as a base for celebrating my mother's 80th birthday. It was nostalgic for us to return to Yosemite as we have visited many times while I was growing up. When my mom said she would love to go to Yosemite for her birthday it was too late to get any accommodation in the valley so I was happy to find this home on Homeaway. It was the best decision ever! We enjoyed having the space and quiet- away from the crowds in the valley- but still close enough to spend part of our day in the park. The view is beautiful from the home, and on our first morning we had a big bear run right across the meadow in front of the house! What a treat! We were able to cook every meal and pack picnics in the spacious kitchen, the internet access kept us connected to the outside world (unfortunately necessary for our work and business), and all five of us slept comfortably. The house has a quaint mountain cabin feel with the wood paneling and log construction. We spent every morning and evening sitting on the deck enjoying the view and fresh mountain air. We will definitely return to this home in the future- no more fighting the tourist crowds in Yosemite Valley! We highly recommend it!

Inside the Park Home Run

  • 5 of 5

This is an older cabin that survived the wild fires a couple of years previously. It is difficult to figure out how there was so much fire and destruction so close to the house and it survived. Evidence of many that did not still remain.

The cabin is easy to find/get to and sits on a hill with views of the Half-Dome and El Capitan several miles away. A short walk to the other side of the hill provides a great view of the valley and the sunsets over the mountains are absolutely beautiful. The cabin is INSIDE the national park. This eliminates a lot of travel time from lodging outside of the park and the lines at the Ranger Station Entrance.

The kitchen is functional (without a dish washer) and the dining room is big enough to accommodate guests with large windows to see the mountains. We were surprised, but appreciative, of the coffee and spices available. You don't need to bring anything but your food. The living room is comfortable. There is a box TV with satellite connection, as well as satellite internet. It has one full-bath downstairs, with a 1/2 bath upstairs. There is a washer and dryer next to the kitchen.

The front of the house has a large deck area, with cushioned chairs and large table. We would sit on the deck in the evening, enjoying a glass of wine and enjoy the peace, quite and view of the beautiful area.

A short drive down the access road gets you to Big Oak Flat Road, one of the main roads into the valley. You don't have to go far to see the beauty and majesty of the park and the amazing views along the way. A mere minutes to the first road tunnels, trail heads and views that go for miles.

There is a Store in the valley that has just about everything you could need for staying on the property or outfitting for hiking (except base climbing). The Grill provides good food. There is a gas station a short drive up Big Oak Flat Road.

A must is to go to the Majestic Hotel and have lunch or dinner. The place is beautiful, especially the large dining hall. The food is very good, yet pricey. Well worth it. It is at the base of El Capitan and you can watch climbers throughout the day. You will need binoculars, since they look like ants way up there.

The cabin was functional, easy to get to/from and provided easy access to the Park and you can beat the crowds (until about noon). We would recommend for families or couples. Older cabin, outdated, but functional. With park so close, you won't spend much time there anyway

Awesome Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this mountain cabin justice. It was spacious, yet had a nice cozy rustic feel. Outdoor patio with views of El Capitan and Half Dome was the perfect gathering place, and the bunk room and lookout tower made this property fun and unique. The cabin is on a dirt road at the outer reaches of Foresta, but still within reasonable reach of the valley and points of interest along Tioga Rd. We really enjoyed our stay at this mountain retreat. Thank you Annie and Rick!

Incredbile Peace and Views

  • 5 of 5

Out of the fray of the valley, yet inside the park and perched high on a hill to see the iconic beauties of Yosemite. My spouse and I spent every evening on the swivel chairs in the cupola catching a 360 view of the sunset. It was April and we were glad to have a four-wheel drive vehicle even though we escaped before the snow coming in. Annie is one of the best owners I've ever worked with.
