About Lori Thompson

Owners Charles, Debbie, Jeff, Lori, and Charlotte Thompson

Charlie, Jeff, and Lori, all engineers, appreciate the structural integrity of Mountaintop Experience. Debbie, a teacher, can't stop marvalling at the view. Charlotte, our thirteen-year old enjoys the view, the comfy sofas and the Wi-Fi most of all. When she was younger her favorite thing was the hot tub. She would always make sure to remember her goggles. All professional hot tub swimmers wear goggles!

Lori Thompson purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Lori Thompson chose Tennessee

My husband and I having been visiting the Great Smoky Mountains for twenty-eight years. We've stayed in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Sevierville, Walden's Creek, Townsend, and Wears Valley. We love them all. Since we live in Knoxville, several weekend trips a year, even on the spur of the minute, are not out of the question. We've stayed in many different cabins. The problem was that there was always something that could have been better. A cabin with a great view would offer no privacy. One with privacy had no view. We wanted a cabin with as many amenities as possible that we could count on consistently. A 'known quantity' if you will. Of all the cabins we've stayed in over the years, none can hold a candle to Mountaintop Experience. Previously, it was named A Wilderness Lodge. However, since it isn't in the wilderness and it isn't a lodge, we changed the name to Mountaintop Experience. We hope you have a wonderful experience on our portion of this mountaintop.

What makes this cabin unique

The design of Mountaintop Experience is ingenious. With virtually the entire back of the house being windows, the mountain view is the centerpiece of the cabin. You can simply sit on the sofa and enjoy the incredible views. You can easily forget that anyone else is around.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This experience was really a "Home Away From Home" but I have to add a plus to that. The pictures we took and advertisements just don't give it the true justice. The cabin and scenery and experience is unimaginable. We really appreciate the use of your cabin. Everything and I mean "Everything" was Great. We appreciate you and your husband as well as all of your assistance and kindness. The experience can not be explained or expressed in words. I can now recommend your cabin to anyone without delay and with a good conscience. We pray that God will continue to bless you and your family.

Our time at Mountaintop Experience was awesome. The house was clean and well kept. Everything was where it should be and everything worked like they said it would. The views of the surrounding mountains was great and drinking coffee and listening to the hillside wake up each morning was my favorite part. Close proximity to the strip in Pigeon Forge. During the few times that it rained the kids had plenty to do with the pool table and hot tub. I would highly recommend booking this cabin as you will not be disappointed. I look forward to making this the first cabin that my family will re-book as we frequent the are yearly. Thanks again.

The View I Was Hoping For!

  • 5 of 5

I literally jumped up and down with happiness when I stepped through the cabin door and took in the view from the living room windows! This was just what I was wanting for our first visit to the Smokies. I wanted to see those mountains and this cabin did not disappoint!

MountainTop Experience is a well maintained, beautifully decorated and a welcoming "home away from home." The accommodations were perfect for our family of five. My husband and I enjoyed the privacy of the Master Bedroom while our young adult children loved having the lower level to themselves. The pool table was a big hit and the Wii was a nice bonus. The hot tub felt great and we were in it every evening.

I liked that the cabin was away from the hustle and bustle but it was close enough to Pigeon Forge and/or Gatlinburg to grocery shop, or do the Alpine Coaster or go to Dollywood. We loved driving through The Great Smoky Mountain National Park and exploring Cade's Cove and some of the waterfalls.

This was our first experience with VRBO and I was glad to find that Lori was organized and provided lots of information so that we could enjoy our time in the cabin. It is obvious that she and her family take great pride in their home and want it to meet or exceed renters' expectations. I spoke with Lori once to ask about a minor Wii issue and she was very pleasant to talk with.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to my friends and family. Beautiful home, gorgeous view, space to spread out…it's a great place to vacation in the Smoky Mountains. Thank you, Thompson Family!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the awesome review! I'm so glad that you and your family had a great time at our cabin. Although we can't take credit for the spectacular view, as that was God's doing, we really do love serving our guests by making our cabin as comfortable as we possibly can. Our goal is for our guests to have everything they would ever expect in a "home away from home". We also continue to make improvements. (We are planning on replacing the upper deck before this year is complete. We're looking at using hog fencing for the railing, so the view would be even more unobstructed!) I'm glad you got the Wii working and it was nice talking to you too. I don't mind a bit to help people navigate within a different environment. Let us know if you ever plan a return trip to our neck of the woods. We love return guests and gladly offer a discount. Warmly, Lori

Life is Good at MountainTop Experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our whole family from the 11 year old to the 77 year old loved living at the Cabin that Lori Thompson and her family provided! A cozy clean.home feel yet also very spacious! An ever changing view of the mountains through the huge living room windows was incredible. Enjoyed the hot tub and pool table and just hanging out on the decks with each other. The ride up and down the mountain is a thrill, like nothing you find in Michigan. We just thank the Thompson family so much for providing their home to us which seemed like a little piece of "almost heaven"!

Beautiful home away from home

  • 5 of 5

I had never used home away before and was reluctant to try it but this experience exceeded my expectations. This cabin is beautiful, comfortable, clean and has an excellent view. We enjoyed spending time on the upper deck enjoying the view and relaxing. I had the pleasure of speaking to Lori once and she was very pleasant and offered information on the area as well as expressing her availability to resolve any issues should they arise. We did not need to contact her during our stay because we did not have any issues or complaints. We hope to visit again some day and extend our stay. Thanks again for a great start to our vacation.

We loved the cabin! The view is amazing and we loved the location, away from the traffic of Pigeon Forge. You can be in the park in 10 minutes. We will be back!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the response! The three things that sold us were, the view, the cabin and the location! Although, I guess location is supposed to count thrice! Location, location, location!

Awesomeness All Over!!!

  • 5 of 5

We just left this place this morning and we are all quite sad! This place was spectacular! Everything was as described, super clean, and the views were breathtaking. We had the best memories just playing pool together! Definitely worth the drive up and down the mountain!!! The owners were fabulous and very helpful. The community pool was superb and the employees there were so nice! It was nice to be able to get away from all the hustle and bustle of Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, but be close enough to be there fairly quickly. We HIGHLY recommend staying here. You will not be sorry! We know we WILL be back!
