Overview

Keuka Lake Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 bath, sleeps 4-6

Welcome to our little piece of heaven we like to call “The Meritage” - a completely remodeled cottage with all the modern conveniences. The cottage is located on a quiet lower lake road - perfect for walking the dog, taking an evening stroll or maybe a morning bike ride.

When you arrive you'll find a bottle of Finger Lakes wine and local coffee from Keuka Lake Coffee Roasters to get your vacation started. Your mornings can start with a cup of fresh coffee as the sun rises behind you, and your evenings can end with the sun setting across the lake and a glass of wine in hand.

The front door to this lovely cottage takes you into the living room area, artfully arranged to welcome warm conversations with friends or family. A comfortable queen-sized sleeper sofa and pair of matching armchairs make this a great place to catch up on the day’s events.

A large window behind the couch beautifully frames the evening sunsets. Twin bookcases are filled with books and games for you to enjoy during your stay, as well as a flat-screen TV with digital cable, DVD player and DVR.

The living room is open to the dining area with seating for 6 and the completely remodeled kitchen where you’ll find everything you need to prepare a wonderful lakeside meal.

Off the kitchen a laundry room with a new washer and dryer, as well as kitchen “staples” in the pantry area. To the left of the kitchen you’ll find our remodeled bathroom with tub and shower.

The master bedroom features high ceilings with a fan and the original wooden beams. Buckwheat Therapy pillows - handmade by our neighbors two doors down - might change the way you sleep forever! The bedroom also is equipped with cable TV and an alarm clock. A large dresser and armoire can be used to pack your belongings away so you feel more like home. The master bedroom also has a second door leading outside.

The guest bedroom just off the dining area has a double bed and dresser.

Outside, friends and family can sit together on the deck, enjoying dinner or a glass of wine and taking in the sight of Keuka Lake. There's a table for six - and a slightly covered space in case it rains! You'll also find both a charcoal grill (for the purist) and a gas grill (for the realist), as well as an outdoor fireplace and propane patio heater.

Walk five steps off the deck and you've reached the water. There's plenty of swimming space, and you can dive in off the end of the dock. Also at the end of the dock are two Adirondack chairs.

There's so much to do in the surrounding area. The biggest attraction is the Finger Lakes Wine Trail, and you'll find two of the best wineries within a mile of The Meritage.

You can taste all kinds of wine - from world-class Rieslings, to Pinot Noir, to award-winning dessert wines! And most wineries provide stunning views of the various Finger Lakes. If you don't want to drive, we have information on limo and private transportation services.

Shoppers will love The Windmill Farm and Craft Market, just a short drive away on Saturdays. Some of our favorite restaurants are nearby, and we provide recommendations in the form of a personal Google Map for every guest. There are many ways to enjoy the lake itself - from renting a boat and water skiing, to fishing and kayaking.

We are excited to now offer two single kayaks (purchased new in 2015) for rent during your stay!

While we don't recommend working while on vacation, there's certainly room to work if you must! Guests enjoy high-speed wireless Internet.

About Morgan Dawson

We're Evan and Morgan Dawson of Rochester, NY, and we take deep, unashamed pride in local produce, wines, and business in the Finger Lakes and western New York. We're the happy owners of The Meritage Cottage on the east side of Keuka Lake. We want our guests to know about the rarely discovered local wonders. We'll help arrange day trips, make reservations, and generally make you feel like you're in a cozy, modern B&B - only we're not there!

Cheers, and see you at The Meritage!

Evan & Morgan

Morgan Dawson purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Morgan Dawson chose Keuka Lake

Morgan grew up just a mile north of the cottage - where her family still lives - and purchasing a cottage in this location was a no-brainer. The quiet lower lake road is the perfect spot to go for an evening run, bike ride, or walk with the dogs. In fact, it's such an ideal location that we have to convince ourselves it's real. We had searched for a rental property for several years and found nothing like this. It's a cliche, but it's true: This is a dream property.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Evan & Morgan - What a wonderful time we had. I believe we went to every winery you could in four days. Our favorite memory is sitting on the dock with the sunrise and having our lab swim until we had to pull him out. Thank you for making your home like our home. Now back to Pittsburgh!

Just what we were looking for.

  • 4 of 5

We thought the cottage was very well stocked with everything we needed. The cottage was very clean and the owners provided us with everything we needed. We enjoyed visiting some of the wineries and did a boat ride in Watkins Glen and visited the Windmill Farmer's/Flea Market.

amazing!

  • 5 of 5

I rented several houses on Keuka Lake -- it was so nice to have the basic needs supplied. I didn't have to rush to the grocery store or bring my kitchen with me. The cabin was neat and clean.

I would recommend this house to my friends and family -- and plan to return myself.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

I've rented a lot of houses on Keuka Lake - this by far was the easiest. The fact that there are basics in the kitchen saved me time and money! The location is wonderful and convenient. I would recommend Meritage to my friends and plan to stay there again myself.

Perfect Birthday escape!

  • 4 of 5

The Meritage was the perfect cozy cottage to escape to for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday... and count my blessings. Everything was as described and pictured - the cottage is cozy, with the comforts of home ~ away from it all with a gorgeous view of Keuka Lake. There's nothing like it! My husband joined me for the weekend and we grabbed a quick Friday night meal at Lloyds Ltd. in Penn Yan, Saturday found us exploring the Windmill Farm Market and having a delicious lunch with an amazing view at Bully Hill Winery. On our way back to the cottage we stopped at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum's Seaplane Homecoming in Hammondsport. Loved watching these planes! Saturday evening we enjoyed our dinner at the Top of the Lake in Penn Yan. Sunday weather wise was a good day to watch football, read and enjoy the view from the cottage. I spent Monday having lunch and catching up with a long time friend and fellow Keuka College graduate over lunch at Bully Hill (It was toooooo cold to eat outside at Heron Hill) and exploring the Wild Goose Chase Antiques outside of Hammondsport.

I would absolutely recommend the Meritage Cottage! Enjoy the peace it, and the lake, bring to your soul. Explore the Finger Lakes and all they have to offer, vineyards, orchards, wineries, or even if it's just a drive up in the hills to take it all in. It is one of my most favorite places to be.

Morgan is wonderful to communicate and plan with! I would not hesitate to rent from her again. Pack lightly ~ there are a lot of steps BUT, I would add, they are so worth it. Sit on the dock with a book, glass of wine and take it all in! Peace.

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a great little cottage on a beautiful lake. The cottage had absolutely everything we needed and more. The owners were very helpful with recommendations and even made sure to call us and let us know they would leave the outdoor lights at the cottage on since we were arriving after dark.

Our 5th Time at the Meritage

  • 5 of 5

This was our 5th stay at the Meritage on Keuka Lake! We spend a week each June and return again for a wonderful wine weekend in October. It has once again met and even exceeded our expectations for comfort, location and beauty. The owners are incredibly attentive to our needs, even making anniversary reservations for us more than once, and who doesn't enjoy arriving to a wonderful bottle of finger lakes wine waiting on the table for you!? They have recently put in some upgrades including a brand new fridge, very comfortable pull out couch and a new bed in the master bedroom. We once again rented a 17 foot power boat that fit nicely in the hoist next to the dock! We rent each year from East Bluff Marine, across and down from the Meritage. We bring Kayaks which launch seamlessly off the dock and the fishing is wonderful. They owners even welcome our two dogs, who enjoy leaping into the water again and again! The location of the cottage just a few miles south of Penn Yan mean quick trips to town for necessities is quite easy. Penn Yan also has a couple of new things to try; Lionshead Brewing and the Water Street Wine Bar! Just a short 15-20 Minute drive and you are also in beautiful Hammondsport! We tried the new Timber Stone Grill which was wonderful, as well as our old stand by The Village Tavern! Great wineries are just minutes away for those rainy days, and the sunsets are postcard quality! While we hope to one day have a cottage of our own, our time at the Meritage is always wonderful and something we look forward to each year! Thank you again for sharing your home
