FLORENCE ITALY PERFECT CASETTA BONSI COTTAGE

This is a charming small house in an excellent Florence historic center location, just two blocks from the landmark Ponte Vecchio. Our guests love its charm, little terrace and excellent historic center location. It's even better then an apartment in Florence as it is a lovely private house right in the historical center of Florence.

Take a walk through Casetta Bonsi by viewing the video, see link above.

It is tastefully decorated with an up-to-date kitchen and bathroom. You'll cherish the privacy and convenient access that this house offers.

Cross the Ponte Vecchio going towards the Pitti Palace, take a quick left up a little street, and you're home in two minutes after morning of sightseeing, an afternoon of shopping, or a long lunch. Just on the other side of the river is the famed Uffizi Gallery, only an five minute walk from the house.

One of the most surprising aspects is that this is truly an independent house, on its very own little piazza, the tiny 'Piazza de' Bonsi ' and was built in 1890 by the longtime Florentine Bonsi della Ruota family.

The spacious living room has a beautiful antique painted Venetian china cupboard, lovely Tuscan dining table and chairs, and a comfortable sofa that includes a pop-up trundle bed that can be made up into two twin beds or a king-size bed. Enjoy breakfast in the kitchen if you prefer at the little counter that overlooks onto the private garden of the lovely villa next door. Off the kitchen is a small laundry room with washing machine.

The bedroom is upstairs with a king-size bed and beautiful Tuscan armoire and dresser. Off the upstairs landing is the private terrace where you can take your morning espresso or sip a glass of Chianti as the sun sets over this dazzling city. The bathroom is nicely appointed, clean white tile and marble, enclosed shower, bidet, good water pressure, lots of storage and halogen lighting.

Florence is a great city for walking, now that car access has been restricted, you can saunter through the city streets in the heart of town as the streets are now pedestrian boulevards. Since Casetta Bonsi della Ruota is so conveniently located you can walk to all the major attractions.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The location of this property could hardly be better. Literally a two-minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio. Lovely accommodation, very roomy and comfortable. Impeccably maintained. Extremely helpful and kind hosts. We would recommend this property very highly to anyone and would definitely stay there again, should we ever be fortunate enough to return to Florence.

Fantastic Five Star stay in Florence!

  • 5 of 5

My wife & I had a wonderful winter getaway to Florence which was only further enhanced by our stay at Casetta Bonsi. Perfectly situated on the Oltrarno side of the river just a few minutes walk from the Ponte Vecchio bridge. Working with Italy Perfect to reserve our trip was easy, they were always very responsive and helpful. Maurizio who met us at Casetta on arrival was a pleasure to get to know. The house was meticulously clean, well organized and we received a pleasant welcome, even including chocolates on our pillows. We would most certainly recommend staying at Casetta Bonsi for a fine Florence experience. Thank you Italy Perfect and Maurizio for everything you did to make our stay "perfect".

Centrally located 2 floor apartment/home

  • 3 of 5

Overall, this was an authentic and quaint little house, and probably an ideal home-base for a short vacation in Tuscany. If you have other needs such as longer stay for work/travel, reliable internet, and a comfortable kitchen to cook regularly then you may need something else.

It has 2 floors and is filled with antiques and antique furnishings.

Maurizio was a great host, meeting us whenever we ran into any issues and explaining in great detail on the cottage's functionality.

The cottage was centrally located in the Oltrarno near the Ponte Vecchio (about 5 minutes) with a grocery right around the corner, an awesome cafe (Golden View Open), and lots of restaurants nearby. We walked everywhere our entire 2 week stay in Florence.

Maurizio and his wife were very welcoming with a bottle of wine, fruit and cookies. The amenities were nice from the soft white towel sets and bathroom toiletries to the coffee and kitchen condiments.

Regarding noise, the property sits in a little square where many people park their mopeds and motorcycles. So there is some level of noise as they are frequently started and parked.

Personally for us we ran into a few issues. We were in this property in December and it was cold. The heating system was on a coded timer and couldn't be adjusted. Since the floors are a stone tile and the windows weren't really insulated, it was actually colder in the apt than outside. Maurizio came immediately the next day and released the code so we could manually adjust the temperature to our liking which was better but still a little chilly indoors.

Another factor was hot water. Again since it was December and it was cold, the shower never achieved a comfortable heat level.

The Wifi, this is probably a country wide issue, but it was barely working. To check emails it was okay but for anything beyond that, it was hair-tearingly frustrating. We couldn't look up restaurants, book tickets, check out local events, stream videos, etc.

If we had come in the summer, maybe this would have been ideal, but the winter was definitely a factor in some of our issues with the property. Another mistake was that we booked this property last minute and in our rush we didn't thoroughly read the terms and agreements that Italy Perfect had us sign. So a few things were overlooked by us, credit card fees (20%) , the coded thermostat, etc.

Maurizio and Italy Perfect were prompt and did what they could to alleviate our issues.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that aspects of this guest stay were not positive. With our near-perfect track record of nearly 40 reviews with an average rating of 4.8 out of 5-star reviews, this guest’s experience is markedly different from every other guest we have hosted since 2003. The guests acknowledges that they failed to read the information clearly provided in our listing and the rental terms that they agreed to. The information is upfront about what is and is not included in the price, and is very specific that the heat is on a pre-set thermostat. Due to the prohibitive cost of utilities in Italy It is common practice to charge extra for heat, something also explained in the information provided before they reserved. The utility allowance at Casetta Bonsi is very generous, and even when, at the guest's request, the heat was adjusted they only incurred an additional $2.75 US dollars/day. The rental terms that they accepted state that extra utilities can be paid in cash at check out, or paid by credit card subject to a 20% administrative fee (about $7.50 in their case) to cover Italian taxes and the bookkeeping involved. Unfortunately, this was another thing they didn't read in the rental contract they signed. The internet is a standard bandwidth subscription found in Florence vacation rentals, it is fine for emails as he notes and for looking up info on the web but not for streaming video or teleconferencing as explained in the property terms. As evidenced by our volume of consistently positive reviews, no other guest has had an issue with the internet or shower temperature. We think this guest was angry at charges for extra heat and the convenience of paying for the extra expense by credit card so they “enhanced” their list of complaints and asked us to compensate them. When we declined to compensate them it appears they decided to take to the internet to try hurt our reputation. We are all very sorry that this guest is unhappy and that they were surprised by the typical Italian heat setting and the need to pay a modest $2.50/day to raise it. Please, proceed to read all of our reviews so you will be assured that we are honest and reliable and that the experience of this guest is highly unusual.

Casetta Bonsi

  • 5 of 5

Casetta Bonsi lives up to the name "Italy Perfect" - a perfect home away from home in Florence. Spacious accommodations comfortably furnished with all the amenities that you need, the house is ideal for two people.

Situated in a quiet residential neighbourhood well away from the throngs of tourists, you can appreciate Florence as those who live here know it and yet just a two minute walk down the road and you are looking across the Arno River at the Ufuzzi directly in front of you. Head into the Oltrarno district (the south side and less touristy side of the Arno) and you can enjoy all the local stores and cafes. Cross the bridge and in less than ten minutes you are in the heart of Florence.

Our charming host, Maurizio, could not have been more welcoming. He met us when we arrived, gave us a tour of the house and provided us with his personal guides to the neighbourhood, his recommendations for shopping and dining, and a detailed history of the house that he had written. And as an added touch, he left us with a bowl of fruit, a plate of candies, and a full canister of espresso to enjoy.

Beautiful accommodations, a perfect location, and a charming host - all for less than the cost of a hotel room. What more could you want?

The reviews are true

  • 5 of 5

I am late in writing this review but better late than never! My husband and I stayed at Casetta Bonsi for 9 days in April and it was everything we could have hoped for. We have always been 'hotel' people so we were a little nervous but we didn't need to be. Lisa at Italy Perfect was very helpful and Maurizio was wonderful. He met us at the appointed time, showed us around, answered our many questions and was extremely pleasant. He left us a nice bottle of wine (which we enjoyed on the terrace the next day for lunch) as well as some delicious sweet treats. He was also kind enough to arrange a taxi for our departure to the train station. We found the house to be spotless, comfortable and spacious enough for 2 people. As others have stated, the location is great, away from the crowds but close enough to walk to the sights. I highly recommend both Italy Perfect and Casetta Bonsi if you're considering a trip to Florence. You won't be disappointed!

Perfect for us!

  • 5 of 5

From the minute we approached Casetta Bonsi we knew we made a great choice. Mauricio took such pride in introducing us to his historic family home. It had all the comforts of home but in an Italian authentic way. Great location. We'd return again in a heartbeat!

First Choice

  • 5 of 5

Casetta Bonsi has been our first choice for accommodations in Firenze since 2009. It fits every requirement for comfort, charm, and location. Within short walking distance of the Ponte Vecchio and Ponte alle Grazie, in Firenze's artsy Oltrarno district, it provides a peaceful retreat from a full day of exploring one of Europe's most beautiful and fascinating cities, and easy access to a fully stocked grocery market literally feet away from the south end of Ponte Vecchio. Spend a week at Casetta Bonsi and you'll be back!
