A Shaker Hymn of simplicty, comfort and good taste

  • 5 of 5

Kermit and Azadeh have worked very hard to create a warm and welcoming apartment that made our nine day visit to New York a delight. They renovated this hundred year old apartment into a Shaker hymn of simplicity, comfort and good taste. It was a wonderful place to return to after a long hard day crammed with visiting museums, stores and some 10,000 people on the subways. The kitchen is spacious and well appointed and there are plentiful closets. Kermit thoughtfully installed a ceiling light in the huge shower in the updated bathroom. The dining room has a long refectory table, so you can spread out the treasures that you acquired during the day and admire them while eating dinner.

There is a corner grocery store a block from the apartment, and a supermarket two blocks away. There is a lovely coffee shop three blocks away, which became our daily stop on the way to the subway station, which is 5 blocks from the apartment. Kermit and Azadeh live two doors down, so they were always available to help.

We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a less expensive alternative to the pricey Manhattan rentals. Our thanks to Kermit and Azadeh for helping to make our vacation the best one ever!!!!

You, too, will 'want to be a part of it!'

Our family of 6 - kids are ages 22 to 16 - had a wonderful time in this wonderful apartment, filled with history and charm and plenty of space. After opening the inner door to the hallway, and seeing the tall and narrow stairway on the right, I immediately returned to the fondest memories of my childhood, when my family visited my grandmother who lived in an old row-house in Philadelphia. The first floor apartment, converted from what would have been the parlor, living and dining rooms in Philly, was filled with wooden dressers, quaint and comfortable beds, and a really great bathroom. The beautiful and coolly-lighted kitchen, with its stone floor and long and narrow table, looked out over the same postage stamp-sized backyard that Grandmom had, lined with colorful flowers and surrounded by a rustic wooden fence.

While the kids slept in, I took a walk one morning in the Linden Hill Cemetery across the street, an old graveyard with family plots and unique headstones. At one point, I looked up and over the adjacent neighborhoods, to see the Empire State Building in the distance in midtown Manhattan. Surreal.

We were just a few blocks from 'our' apartment to 'our' subway station on DeKalb Ave., had Chinese take-out one night in 'our' neighborhood, and stocked up on necessities at 'our' grocery store. Although hot and sweltering outside, the air-conditioned subway trains and the coolness of the apartment welcomed us.

Typical tourists, we visited the sobering and emotional 9/11 Memorial and took a tour led by witnesses of 'that day.' We took ferries to Lady Liberty and Ellis Island, ate a great pasta dinner in Little Italy, strolled through Central Park, saw Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Grand Central Station, the NYSE, ate thin-crust pizza in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge, gazed in awe from the 86th floor of the Empire State

Building, and had a decent grasp of the complex and bustling subway system after 3 days. There is a lot left to do in The City the next time we visit - something we're already talking about. After about 33 miles of walking during the 'dog days' of summer, we've only just begun.

Very much in love with The NYC, hopefully 'our' apartment on Stockholm and Woodward, will be waiting for us again. But next time it'll be in the Fall when it's cooler! The summer? Fuggitaboutit!!

Loved having all the space compared to a hotel room!

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with our stay! The apartment was clean, comfortable, and stylish. We were walking distance to a store and places to eat. Parking was only difficult late at night. We had very good communication during the whole process. If you are looking for more space than a hotel room has to offer, this is the place for you! We loved it!

Just Right!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was very comfortable for our family of four. Very clean and everything was exactly as represented. Katie was terrific with handling the details and providing lots of useful information. Convenient location between Brooklyn and Queens, just a 10 minute walk to the L train, and then another 15 minutes to Manhattan. We highly recommend this property for anyone wanting to experience the city and save a few bucks too.

Never been disappointed......

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in these Ridgewood apartments a number of times and our experience has always been excellent. The space is thoughtfully designed, simple but perfectly functional, very comfortable and lovely. These rentals are best for family or really good friends as privacy between sleeping areas is minimum. Management is always on hand and obliging. Convenient transportation into Manhattan, if you must, but, as we discovered, Brooklyn and Queens have a lot to offer as well. Parking has become a little more difficult as the neighborhood is now more popular, but still possible. Look forward to staying again soon.

Map

Car: not necessary

Straddling the neighborhoods of Bushwick, Brooklyn and Ridgewood, Queens, the apartment is 5 blocks away from the Dekalb Street 'L' train station in Brooklyn—one of the best subway lines in the city. Union Square, the heart of downtown Manhattan, is only 15 minutes away via a direct subway ride; Williamsburg, Brooklyn's stylish boutiques, bars and restaurants are only a 7 minute train ride away.

Ours is a quieter, more residential neighborhood, but it is in an exciting stage of growth. In the last 5 years there has been a huge influx of artists and creatives in our immediate area. As a result, there is now a solid (and rapidly growing) number of stylish cafes, restaurants, wine bars, art galleries, yoga studios, and a great 24-hour gourmet/organic grocery store all within a 10-12 minute walk from the apartment. There are also local Italian bakeries, Halal butcher shops, Equadorian bodegas, Polish food markets and the best tasting Mexican tamales we've ever come across. All relevant information can be found in our Guest Welcome binder in the apartment and we hope that you will explore these local gems during your visit.
