This 1908 cottage, rebuilt in 2005 after fire destroyed the top floor, is a cozy getaway nestled in the coastal town where Annie's grandfather was, long ago, the Mayor and mill worker on the bay. It's the perfect spot for the family vacation, writer's/artist's hangout or business trip.
From Annie's Cottage, the beach is as close as a few blocks or a short drive to the active fishing village of Charleston and the business meeting is less than a 15 minute drive no matter which direction you go in Coos Bay or North Bend, yet you have the feeling the moment you step out of the car and stroll up the stone path and hear the soothing sound of the water fall, that all the tensions of your active every day life are just no where to be found.
A day playing in the sand dunes or at the beach or taking a hike along the coast is perfectly ended by a soak in the jacuzzi tub and then lean back in the recliner overlooking the bay to watch the sunset and the occasional ship go by. Our non commercial, relaxing, authentic little town will invite you back again and again to forget there ever was a freeway, a long line to stand in or a phone ringing off the hook.

Paul and Annie Comfort share a love for this little, authentic coastal community. Each have deep roots in the community and have participated in local theater and music. Paul bought the home that is now Annie's Cottage over 20 years ago with hopes of entertaining friends there. A bachelor for many years, he was a customer of Annie's when she was a sales clerk in the 1970's & 80's at a local Radio Shack. He worked in marine electronics in the nearby fishing village of Charleston and later was the technical director at a local theater. Annie moved away after college and, after the death of her first husband, returned to Coos Bay where they met again and fell in love after working on a music project together. After fire destroyed the top floor of the Cottage, they were wed and rebuilt the Cottage in 2004 with the dream of sharing it with people just like them who just need a peaceful getaway from time to time.
The Owner purchased this house in 1983
We've always loved the Oregon coast, and the Coos Bay area is full of unspoiled beauty. The non-commercialized beaches, dunes and forests are exquisite. The air is fresh and clean, and the temperatures are always moderate.
From the minute you begin your walk up the path to the front door, there is a peace about the Cottage. It is a resting place, a place to truly kick back and take it easy. From the easy chairs overlooking the bay on the top floor, you can watch ships and fishing boats and an occasional barge go by. Once in awhile a tall ship can be seen, such as the Lady Washington. Whether it's sitting on the rocks of the waterfall in the front yard and watching the neighborhood birds play in the water or relaxing in the jacuzzi tub upstairs, it is a true getaway, a destination.
Has everything needed without feeling cluttered. Helpful communication with owners.
I moved from CA to OR and stayed at Annie's Cottage along the way. After 14 hours of driving it was so nice to arrive at the cottage...it was so cute, cozy and inviting. It was so comfortable staying there and it was absolutely perfect. Even my little dog LOVED it and was happily bouncing around the yard. If I ever head down the coast again, I'll definitely stay here.
The kitchen/dining area is a very comfortable and accommodating size; we could, easily, have stayed for several more days, it was so cozy!!
Annie is such a thoughtful Hostess; she has a thoughtful back-up of ground coffee (and filters!!😃) in the freezer!!😃
The jacuzzi tub, upstairs, is SO RELAXING, it's difficult to not want to spend hours in it!!😜
The upstairs has a lovely little nook with chairs, where a person could just sit, for hours, reading or storm watching... Annie has even provided a large, cushy bed, for a large-sized dog to lay on...a Lady after my own heart!!
The Owners (Annie and Paul) are so accessible, rather than the [often] impersonal agencies that you rent homes from...
Thank you for sharing your lovely home, Annie; it, and you, are a Treasure!!😃
We stayed for one night. The house is very nicely furnished. I could easily see staying here several nights in comfort.
We had two nights at this peaceful and thoughtfully appointed home. There were only two of us, so the layout was spacious and delightful (could accommodate two more). We love the unusual aspects of this place: the water feature, the amazing upstairs bath, the cozy sitting area upstairs, the big yard with off-street parking (we left our bikes on our car rack unlocked). Annie and Paul have thought of everything, and have filled the cottage with quality bedding, soaps/shampoo, anything you need. Strategically placed notes with tips and instructions were very helpful and straightforward (I do get tired of reading pages of instructions at some rentals). One does need a car here but then the outdoors calls. We spent a full day at amazing Cape Arago and could have filled many more days using Annie's Cottage as a base. Would recommend to anyone spending time in this area.
My husband and I stayed in this beautiful cottage for a recent weekend get away. It had everything we needed for a wonderful weekend! The cottage oozes with charm and character. We were sorry we couldn't staying longer. Thank you for providing such a comfortable place to stay. We loved it!
