Overview

Coastal Oregon House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom + Bunk Area, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4), jacuzzi tub, washer/dryer

This 1908 cottage, rebuilt in 2005 after fire destroyed the top floor, is a cozy getaway nestled in the coastal town where Annie's grandfather was, long ago, the Mayor and mill worker on the bay. It's the perfect spot for the family vacation, writer's/artist's hangout or business trip.

From Annie's Cottage, the beach is as close as a few blocks or a short drive to the active fishing village of Charleston and the business meeting is less than a 15 minute drive no matter which direction you go in Coos Bay or North Bend, yet you have the feeling the moment you step out of the car and stroll up the stone path and hear the soothing sound of the water fall, that all the tensions of your active every day life are just no where to be found.

A day playing in the sand dunes or at the beach or taking a hike along the coast is perfectly ended by a soak in the jacuzzi tub and then lean back in the recliner overlooking the bay to watch the sunset and the occasional ship go by. Our non commercial, relaxing, authentic little town will invite you back again and again to forget there ever was a freeway, a long line to stand in or a phone ringing off the hook.

About The Owner

Paul and Annie Comfort share a love for this little, authentic coastal community. Each have deep roots in the community and have participated in local theater and music. Paul bought the home that is now Annie's Cottage over 20 years ago with hopes of entertaining friends there. A bachelor for many years, he was a customer of Annie's when she was a sales clerk in the 1970's & 80's at a local Radio Shack. He worked in marine electronics in the nearby fishing village of Charleston and later was the technical director at a local theater. Annie moved away after college and, after the death of her first husband, returned to Coos Bay where they met again and fell in love after working on a music project together. After fire destroyed the top floor of the Cottage, they were wed and rebuilt the Cottage in 2004 with the dream of sharing it with people just like them who just need a peaceful getaway from time to time.

The Owner purchased this house in 1983

Why The Owner chose Coastal Oregon

We've always loved the Oregon coast, and the Coos Bay area is full of unspoiled beauty. The non-commercialized beaches, dunes and forests are exquisite. The air is fresh and clean, and the temperatures are always moderate.

What makes this house unique

From the minute you begin your walk up the path to the front door, there is a peace about the Cottage. It is a resting place, a place to truly kick back and take it easy. From the easy chairs overlooking the bay on the top floor, you can watch ships and fishing boats and an occasional barge go by. Once in awhile a tall ship can be seen, such as the Lady Washington. Whether it's sitting on the rocks of the waterfall in the front yard and watching the neighborhood birds play in the water or relaxing in the jacuzzi tub upstairs, it is a true getaway, a destination.

Cozy house near the bay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for one night. The house is very nicely furnished. I could easily see staying here several nights in comfort.

Peaceful and unique retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had two nights at this peaceful and thoughtfully appointed home. There were only two of us, so the layout was spacious and delightful (could accommodate two more). We love the unusual aspects of this place: the water feature, the amazing upstairs bath, the cozy sitting area upstairs, the big yard with off-street parking (we left our bikes on our car rack unlocked). Annie and Paul have thought of everything, and have filled the cottage with quality bedding, soaps/shampoo, anything you need. Strategically placed notes with tips and instructions were very helpful and straightforward (I do get tired of reading pages of instructions at some rentals). One does need a car here but then the outdoors calls. We spent a full day at amazing Cape Arago and could have filled many more days using Annie's Cottage as a base. Would recommend to anyone spending time in this area.

Owner's Response: Vicky, What a thrill to see your review! Thank you for taking time to give us feedback after your long trip. We loved your comments in our guest book, as well, and especially the great drawing if the Cottage! All the things you've mentioned are the things that matter most to us when we travel too. What a privilege to share with wonderful people from near and far. I hope you make it back down our way for a longer adventure one of these days!

Awesome place and people

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is very clean and nicely stocked. There was construction nearby so noise and traffic was higher then expected. We will be ever grateful to Paul, Annie and many Oregonians during our stay. We will be back some time soon.

Owner's Response: Your graciousness, regarding the construction traffic, and your kind words here, are so appreciated. They've assured us that Cape Arago Hwy will be better than ever. It has been in want of attention for a year or so. We're grateful they're doing the work on the water main and improving the hwy at the same time...not so much about the detour. Thank you, again for your generous review.

Charming sanctuary!

  • 5 of 5

My visit was 2 1/2 weeks, a time in my life to regroup and start over. Annie's cottage has given me a much needed welcome and a comfortable, charming environment for me and my faithful companion, Ruby. The accommodations are top-notch with every convenience needed for an overnight or an extended stay. I can highly recommend Annie's Cottage and will stay here again on my next visit to the Southern Oregon Coast.

Lovely cool summer at the cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have so enjoyed two extended stays at Annie's cottage! Annie and Paul are very hospitable hosts who include all the necessary bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom amenities. There's no sense of stinginess, but rather a warm generous welcome exemplified by top quality towels, sheets, and delicious chocolates from the local Cranberry Sweets store.

Before we even enter the house we enjoy hearing the sounds of their garden - the rushing water of the small stream and the twittering of the rufous hummingbirds as they fly in to drink from the fuschia.

It's a comfortable, clean, peaceful place in an excellent location. Everything is nearby: the coast and Charleston to the south, dunes to the north, and the town in between. It's a short easy drive to scenic walks along the ocean from Sunset Bay State Park to Cape Arago. We never tired of walking along the cliffs and watching the waves, seals, cormorants, and pigeon guillemots. Another highlight was kayaking the calm waters of the South Slough. South Coast Tours provided the kayaks plus a friendly experienced guide. And the dunes, especially on the John Dellenback Dunes Trail, were spectacular. Well, our interests were birding, hiking, photography, reading, kayaking, and swimming and this was the perfect place for all of that.

How fortunate that the Coos Bay/ North Bend area isn't touristy and is alive year round. This meant for us on an extended stay that it had 2 outstanding public pools, 2 public libraries, a great gym, a bookstore, supermarkets with organic food, a thriving farmer's market, 2 fine museums...

Annie and Paul were readily available and helpful whenever we had any questions and were a great resource for "what to do" and "where to go" in the area. They went the extra mile in ensuring our comfort.

How relaxing after a day of fresh air, hiking and being outdoors to sit upstairs in the cozy alcove on mission chair recliners and read and look out on the waters of the bay.

Thank you Annie and Paul for providing this healing cottage!
