I'm a mom to two great kids and we had an awesome time staying on Indian pond! My girls are 11 and 13 and instead of being attached to their iPods, laptops and smartphones 24/7, we started each day by turning on the local radio station that was set up stereo style in the open concept loft so we were able to hear it throughout the house and as corny as it sounds, we danced and sang and made breakfast together before heading out to our backyard spot on the lake for the day! The tv was rarely used and the girls actually played together and laughed like they were having the best time ever, like when they were little girls and best friends. It was priceless! They played in the water all day and kayaked around the whole lake exploring all by themselves (which was great for them and for me too because I could sit on the dock, read my book in peace, and still look up and spot them at any time without them even knowing) We felt like we were living it up in luxury at the cabin and there was also plenty to explore in close by Bethel and Paris. Great restaurants in the area and we even sorted through sand and minerals like gold miners to find our own 'jewels' to take home at the local outdoor adventure area in Bethel. I would have thought being in a cabin with my two adolescent girls for a week together 24/7 would have its tough moments but honestly, it was like we were able to go back in time to when things were less complicated and exploring nature, the water and loons, and great food and family were all we needed to be happy! The owners were so warm and welcoming that we felt we could go to them with any questions or concerns because they wanted us to have a great vacation. We are so lucky to have found them and their lovely home and look forward to hopefully making more great memories again there in the future. I'd recommend this place to everyone!! Thanks again Donna!
This lake house was wonderful, peaceful, comfortable and clean. We enjoyed ourselves and had no troubles. The jetted bathtub was really nice. The owners left very good instructions for everything, and had provided good local info (brochures, maps, magazines). The location was a good base for our activities in Oxford county. Remote, but did not take long to get to the places we wanted to visit, like the casino and Sunday River. The house had neat reminders all around that you are in rockhounding country. The lake was pristine, and seemed like fishing would be good, although we did not try. Things to note for future renters: The property is on an incline, with steep path down to the water, not ideal for bringing your own boats. We made use of a neighboring property to bring our boats, the when leaving we paddled the boats across the lake to a boat launch to take them out. Internet access is not wireless, but if you bring your own wireless router, you can plug that into the DSL router just fine. Low slung cars will have difficulty on the road to the house. We had no trouble with our Jetta, but it was dry during our stay too.
I can't say enough about this property. We have be fortunate to be able to rent a few weeks thru out the 4 seasons at this beautiful waterfront property for 5 years. And with each season we were pleasantly surprise at the array of activities that we found nearby. There is plenty to do , or my favorite, just relaxing , after all isn't that why we go away ? An afternoon canoe ride , around the pond, which was generously provided by Donna and Tom . S'mores in the Fire pit, sitting on the upper deck enjoying a good meal with family .in the cooler nights snuggleIng with a good book in front of the gas fireplace .great hiking right from the property, Christopher cliff trail is offers breathtaking views , for those who feel energetic.
The house has plenty of space , yet feels cozy. There are several living areas , which worked well for our teenage sons , so they had some privacy . It has a warm open concept on the main floor, kitchen is well stocked with all you need to prepare meals.
The master bed room is on the third floor with a sitting area and full bath , so when I did have to do a little work , I could connect to the Internet and plug back in to the real world . The owners live close by so if there were ever any issue , which was rare , they would take care of it immediately. And they were a wealth of information , for dinning , hiking , where to rent movies , they have it all covered. This is truly our happy place, we have have made wonderful memories for ourselves and our children , we can't wait to return for another vacation !
When we arrived for our stay, the camp was in perfect condition; everything was clean and well-organized. The pictures on this site do not do it justice! It is located at the end of a camp road on a quiet lake, so our stay was very peaceful. The owner, Donna, was a charm to work with. She promptly responded to all of my e-mails, and even called prior our stay to make sure that we were all set. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a peaceful getaway.
We stayed at the lake house in July of 2011 and had a wonderful, peaceful stay. The pond was clean and warm and we really enjoyed listening to the loons each evening. Donna and Tom were a joy to deal with and quickly took care of anything that popped up. The property is beautiful inside and out and quite private. The layout worked well for kids to have their own space, but brought us all together on the open concept main level to enjoy the view and terrific meals in the well-appointed kitchen. We had everything that we needed and then some - movies on a rainy night and bonfire under the trees and stars when it was dry. We were very happy staying close to capitalize on the relaxing environment, but we did venture out and found plenty to do not far away to keep the (then) 12 year-old entertained. We all hope to return with our little guy who was "in the oven" during our first visit.
We rented this home for a week in July. It was what we expected and more! The home was secluded and peaceful but still close to attractions. We were pleasantly surprised to find the home larger than we expected. Donna and Tom were very sweet and made sure we had everything we needed (soap, batteries for the remote, laundry detergent). We had a wonderful time swimming, canoeing, fishing and just relaxing. I happily recommend this home to anyone!
