We are third and fourth generation Inverness vacationers.
Susan Hill purchased this house in 1972
We built this house to take advantage of the beautiful views and forest and because of the proximity to the beaches on Tomales Bay.
Our house is made of wood with great expanses of glass, so wherever you are inside you can see the sky, forest or water. The high ceilings and different levels give a great sense of space.
Sometimes the cliche "pictures do not show the beauty of the place" is very appropriate. The home of mrs Hill is a fantastic, all wood and glass cottage lying in complete serenity above Tomales bay. The house is in Seahaven, which is a very tranquil part of Inverness, all woodland, deer and turkey buzzards. There are three houses nearby but none has a view into the property. The property itself is a DREAM. It is clearly somebodys beloved summer house and NOT a typical rental. There are pictures of the family that owns it and poetry books, and You may use the telescope and walking stick. Almost all walls consist of redwood and glass and the house is exquisitely designed so that the beauty of the outside always is present. The views from the huge two storey living room are to die for, and are just as gorgeous from the bedroom. The Patio and hot tub are excellent. The kitchen is spotless and I hope guests continue to try to keep it so. The floors on the upper storey have wall to wall carpeting which is perhaps a little retro, but it is a very nice feeling when You walk barefoot on it. I clearly had the impression that I was a guest at the cottage of a very good friend. You who are fortunate enough to spend a week here should treat this magical place as the place of privilege it truly is. Use, enjoy, but never destroy it, nor the serenity of the place. It is an ideal retreat for a couple and will definitely bring back any romance lost between you. I used it as a base for attending a convention in San Francisco and commuted every day. If You leave at 6AM You are in the city center 730 AM. So it is perfectly workable to use this rental whenever You attend something in SFO. Highway one is, however, not for the easily car sick...it is VERY winding. The restaurant Saltwater is very good, which is just a couple of miles away, as well as the market in Inverness Park a few miles further to the south. The Palace Market in Point Reyes caters to all your needs and there is the Cowgirl creamery a block away. Mount Tam Triple Creme is the most delicious cheese money can buy. The house also has a large collection of information about the area and several books covering the subject. You may perhaps wonder about safety? I assure You that You do not even THINK about anything untoward happening. You just revel in the bliss that You feel. Downsides? The Weber grill in the garden has a handle that gets hot so You need to use a stick to lift it. That is the ONLY downside.
We are 3 active women who were there to celebrate a special weekend. The place was jaw-dropping from the moment we drove up. The views were great, the house so well placed, the grounds lovely. The inside is mostly a kitchen and a three tiered living room with floor to ceiling views. The bedrooms were fine but the place to be was the main room. All very well thought out but not pretentious. Be sure to check out the playlist in the CD player. If you were alive in the 70's you are going to rock out! Also, check to see if there is night kayaking while you are there - a very cool experience. And lots of great hikes just minutes away. We would (and already have) recommended this house to friends.
This house was perfect for our family of 5 including 3 school aged children. The house is well designed around the incredible view for a wonderful family vacation. While we liked the master bedroom our kids eschewed the second bedroom to sleep on the lower level of the wonderful living room, which we literally lived in. We hiked, kayaked, paddle boarded, ate out (Salt Water in Inverness is awesome, oysters in Marshal the best we've ever had, and Bovine Bakery a treat), walked, beached, saw the sights, and generally had a wonderful time. Coming back to a place that was so inviting we spent more time there than we had planned. The kitchen worked well too, but cannot say enough wonderful things about the multi-level living room, which gives people space to spread out and do their own thing while enabling everyone a view of Tomales Bay. Highly recommend for families.
Stayed with a few college friends at this place during 4th of July and it was amazing! The pictures really do not do the house justice. It's close to so many awesome sights and was an amazing place to relax and unwind after a long day of kayaking, hiking, etc.
My best friend was getting married, so we needed a special place for a few ladies to get together to properly celebrate. We needed relaxing, quiet, nature and hot-tub. We got that and more at Inverness . The space is so creative, warm, inviting. The view is spectacular. The kitchen is well stocked for gourmet meals. Susan is very responsive and helpful. Will come again.
This is a marvelous house of distinctive and distinguished California architecture in the forest overlooking Tomales Bay. It is generous and capacious in scale and in excellent condition, with all equipment and appliances working perfectly, including the fireplace and hot tub. It was perfect for a two-day retreat by our three-generation family, and we highly recommend it for its great windows and view, and as a base for excursions on foot nearby or visiting the handy town of Point Reyes Station, with its grocery, post office, restaurants and bookstore.
Bird watching, Whale watching, Elephant Seal watching (in season).
