Overview

About the property

Side by side cute cottages with great views of the water sleeps from 6-14 people

Rustic, vintage 2 bedroom, and cute, homey 2 bedroom cottages sit side by side on the river minutes from Sandusky Bay and 20 minutes from Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH. Enjoy a view of the river and from the large airy windows or the deck. Many Egrets, Herons, Gulls, Swans, and songbirds populate this area throughout the year. Deer and fox can be observed around the area as well.

Bring your boat, fishing gear, water skis, water equipment, and binoculars. The cottages are fully furnished and fully air conditioned. A playground for kids is one block away. 2 docks for docking and fishing also available at no charge. The Egret cottage sleeps 8 people and the Swallow's Nest sleeps 6 people. Each is priced the same so you can rent 1 or both depending upon the size of your party.

Pickerel Creek, Blue Heron Reserve, and OWNR close by. One half hour from Cedar Point and the Port Clinton or Sandusky ferry boats to the Islands. Boating, water skiing, tubing, biking on site. Quaint popular eating establishments in nearby Fremont include: Whitey’s Diner and Billy’s Restaurant, and The Tackle Box well know for its generous 1 pound perch special on Friday evenings. If you bring a boat you can easily take your boat upriver to the Tackle Box to enjoy a perch or walleye feast.

We also welcome duck and deer hunters to this rural and natural area with its many state wildlife areas

Spring and Summer Fishing: Ideal fishing for interested fishermen is the spring walleye run on the Sandusky River in Fremont. For walleye anglers, the Sandusky River in downtown Fremont offers plenty of action. Shore anglers can access the river easily at Swartzlander Park in downtown Fremont. Shoreline anglers can also fish the bay at Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area, Willow Point Wildlife Area, and upstream the action begins earlier with Memory Marina and Riverfront Marina providing boating access to the river where these transitional fish can be found. Huge catches of Walleye are taken from the river in downtown Fremont. The most consistent success on spring walleye usually occurs in the deep pools that line the Sandusky River between the State Street and Miles Newton Bridges in Fremont. The run usually peaks in early April, but fishing stays good throughout the month with White Bass fishing following the Walleye run through June. A variety of pan fish can be easily caught throughout the year.

Birding Opportunities & Memory Marina: Because of the proximity of the river, bay, and lake great birding Hot Spots include the various wildlife areas, ponds and tributaries on site or nearby. Close by areas include the Magee Marsh & Ottawa National Wldlife area, Castalia and the Resthaven area, Blue Heron Reserve, and Pickerel Creek. Eagles, Herons, Egrets and songbirds can be observed right from the cottage. Memory Marina is located ¼ of a mile from the cottage. You can put your boat in at this location and dock in front of the cottage. Memory Marina also operates a little store with many tasty and useful items for your convenience. Most mornings eagles can easily be seen from the cottage deck or large windows of the cottage where you can observe them hunting for breakfast while you enjoy yours.

President Hayes Home: The Hayes Home and museum, Fremont's National Treasurer, offers outdoor concerts on the veranda the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month during the summer. Hayes was the 19th president of the United States. The home at Speigel Grove sits on a large hill and is surrounded by beautiful mature trees many of which were planted when the Hayes family occupied the home. A Civil War enactment held each fall at Spiegel Grove. Chateau Tableau winery is also nearby in Helena and is a unique experience for wine lovers.

fantastic getaway location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at this cottage. It was clean and well-maintained. The proximity to the Sandusky River was great for relaxing paddles and fishing. All in all, it was outstanding and we would highly recommend it. The only complaint we had was that the bicycles mentioned in the description for our use were in disrepair. Some of the bicycles had flat tires and one had no chain, leaving us with only two functioning bicycles. This was a small problem, though, and we intend to come back in the future. Thanks, Linda!

Comfy Beds.

  • 4 of 5

Great place to stay. Not too far from Cedar Point. The beds were comfortable. The only down side was all the mosquitoes outside the cottage, but that is to be expected when near the water. We would definitely stay again.

My family really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful scenery! Lovely wildlife.

  • 5 of 5

We came here from Millsboro, De, and we live in the country. But when we arrived my husband fell in love. This nice little cottage was big enough for our family. We did not want to leave.. Ohio is beautiful and the neighbors were very friendly too. My husbanf even caught about 40 cat fish during one day. This is cottage is on our list to stay again.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the cottage, everything was right there that we needed. The lay out of the cottage was great, plenty of room inside and out. The river was right across the street, and that was enjoyable also, and it was nice to have a fire in the fire pit also. The mosquitos didn't like us much though, but that was to be expected being so close to the river. There was plenty of things to do and all the neighbors where friendly and made us feel welcomed. I would definetly come back again and recommend to my family and friends.

Cedar Point Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at this clean, quiet and well appointed cottage. Air conditioning was much appreciated and there was lots of room for the dogs. The owners were very helpful and directions were clear. The only difficulty we had was swimming. The river bank was not really suitable for entering the water, and it was awkward from the dock, but we managed. The water was very murky but warm. People were catching good sized fish from the dock. We would return and we recommend this cabin to others.
