Spring and Summer Fishing: Ideal fishing for interested fishermen is the spring walleye run on the Sandusky River in Fremont. For walleye anglers, the Sandusky River in downtown Fremont offers plenty of action. Shore anglers can access the river easily at Swartzlander Park in downtown Fremont. Shoreline anglers can also fish the bay at Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area, Willow Point Wildlife Area, and upstream the action begins earlier with Memory Marina and Riverfront Marina providing boating access to the river where these transitional fish can be found. Huge catches of Walleye are taken from the river in downtown Fremont. The most consistent success on spring walleye usually occurs in the deep pools that line the Sandusky River between the State Street and Miles Newton Bridges in Fremont. The run usually peaks in early April, but fishing stays good throughout the month with White Bass fishing following the Walleye run through June. A variety of pan fish can be easily caught throughout the year.

Eagles, Herons, Egrets and songbirds can be observed right from the cottage. Memory Marina is located ¼ of a mile from the cottage. You can put your boat in at this location and dock in front of the cottage. Memory Marina also operates a little store with many tasty and useful items for your convenience. Most mornings eagles can easily be seen from the cottage deck or large windows of the cottage where you can observe them hunting for breakfast while you enjoy yours.
President Hayes Home: The Hayes Home and museum, Fremont's National Treasurer, offers outdoor concerts on the veranda the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month during the summer. Hayes was the 19th president of the United States. The home at Speigel Grove sits on a large hill and is surrounded by beautiful mature trees many of which were planted when the Hayes family occupied the home. A Civil War enactment held each fall at Spiegel Grove. Chateau Tableau winery is also nearby in Helena and is a unique experience for wine lovers.
We had a wonderful time at the cottage, everything was right there that we needed. The lay out of the cottage was great, plenty of room inside and out. The river was right across the street, and that was enjoyable also, and it was nice to have a fire in the fire pit also. The mosquitos didn't like us much though, but that was to be expected being so close to the river. There was plenty of things to do and all the neighbors where friendly and made us feel welcomed. I would definetly come back again and recommend to my family and friends.
We had a wonderful time staying at this clean, quiet and well appointed cottage. Air conditioning was much appreciated and there was lots of room for the dogs. The owners were very helpful and directions were clear. The only difficulty we had was swimming. The river bank was not really suitable for entering the water, and it was awkward from the dock, but we managed. The water was very murky but warm. People were catching good sized fish from the dock. We would return and we recommend this cabin to others.
My husband and our two kids usually take a vacation once a year with my two sisters and their children. It usually is a vacation going west but this year we decided to go east. Doing some research on the internet we came across this site and chose to search around Lake Erie area. Linda was very helpful in getting us the cabin that was more comfortable for the family of our size. The cottage was beautiful cute and well kept. My husband loves the ceiling fans since I wouldn't let him bring his night stand fan on vacation with the ceiling fans he was able to have an air flow and fall a sleep to the noise. Love that the cottage has ac and we could relax and sit on the deck as well. Loved finding the bikes and movies in the garage and one workable fishing pole it gave our family plenty of laughs. My only complaint isn't really a complaint at all honestly we were close to nature but there were spider webs and huge spiders all over the house entrance and the decks by the river and plenty of wasps living/nesting in the wood so that was a little interesting. But thank you so much for helping our family have an awesome vacation and a comfortable stay in your peaceful cottage.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay very much, very comfortable and everything we needed. My daughter and two grand daughters came with us and really liked being close to everything especially Cedar Point and the beach. My husband enjoyed the fishing and the comforts of the cottage as he did not go with us when we went to Cedar Point. I would recommend the cottage to my friends, a great area to stay. The cottage was clean and well maintained with all the comforts of home which may our stay very pleasant.
They made our stay very well worth it! Even through the floods and all they took care Of all our needs!! Kids had a lot of fun riding the bikes and playing games that were provided for us. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay!
We drove from Philadelphia, PA to this Fremont cottage and it was an absolute delight to stay here. We are siblings who grew up in this area as kids and this was our reunion trip to see friends and family, since it had been 5 years since our last visit. Your cottage was just perfect in accommodating 4 adults. It was exactly as described and very clean and neat. It had all the amenities you could need and the 2 twin beds were very comfortable.
There really was not very much to complain about, but felt it should be mentioned as a suggestion:
- there was no storage or shelf space in the bathroom. Which made it a bit tricky in the morning, trying to balance hair brushes, toothpaste and coffee cups. Some "on the wall shelving" or a little table would do wonders, so guests can have a place to put their morning stuff on!
- The bedroom with the queen size bed, had no dressers or storage. Again, maybe some wall shelving or hooks can help with where to put clothes, jewerly, etc.
I would highly recommend this property for friends or family to utilize in lieu of staying in a hotel room, especially if staying for more than a few days. It was a great place and we really enjoyed our stay.
The notebook of restaurants and attractions was a great help in determining what to do and where to go, if not familiar with the area.
