I lived and worked in Santa Fe for 17 years and found my career as an artist there. Santa Fe has a charm and 'vibe' that is addictive - one of the most artistically stimulating places in the world - the natural beauty, native Hispanic and Native American heritage, and lovely people permeate this place with positive, creative energy. I bought this house and renovated it thinking I would move back to Santa Fe permanently. Although my work has taken me elsewhere, this house is a treasure and I love to share it. My primary work has been the restoration and renovation of the interiors of several historic churches including the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis 1 block from the historic Santa Fe Plaza as well as San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church on the plaza in Old Town Albuquerque. Google John Alan Design to see some of this work.

Lovely and comfortable, and loved being in the Railyard district ... close to everything ... restaurants and Wholefoods Market. Rose, the manager, cooked a wonderful authentic Santa Fe dinner for the four us that was ready the first night we arrived. The Chocolate Maven nearby is a MUST for a full breakfast or a sweet treat. The owner is easy to deal with and we definitely plan on staying there again. Highly recommended.
We had never been to Santa Fe before but after reading all the reviews for the artist retreat, we couldn't wait. This place was beautiful and convenient to everything. Rose, the care taker, was amazing! She waited for us to get in from our late flight, showed us around the home and was just a phone call away if we needed her!!! We would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a charming place to stay while in Santa Fe!!!! And definitely eat at the Tuneup, which is within walking distance, very yummy!!!!
This condo is just the best. Great location, very clean with comfortable beds and good lighting. This was our first time in Santa Fe and I have to say when we drove up and saw the gate and the wall, we were a little worried. But, inside it looks exactly like the pictures - beautiful! We were there in a chilly March, but it was fine. Big heavy curtains for nighttime that pull back to let the sun shine in everywhere. Parking was easy; the caretaker was so helpful and full of information and there was a well-stocked library to help us decide where to tour. If we are ever in Santa Fe again, we will try to stay here. In the meantime, I highly recommend it!
My conscience got the best of me. I wasn't going to review this property because it's so good that I wanted to try to keep it a secret. Obviously that's not possible and my guilty thought is out now.
I've rented many times through VRBO as well as other rental sites and am very picky about certain features such as lighting. Almost didn't rent this house because the photos showed too few lamps in the living room. The ceiling lighting was so well done! I abhor ceiling lighting but the way this was so expertly lit it lent a truly cheerful atmosphere to the living room. Non-obtrusive, dimmable ceiling lighting was throughout the home.
Next on my ''picky list'' are linens and beds. I thought I had the best at home but after sleeping on the bed here, well just say it's going to cost me a ton of money. The usual morning aches and pains were ''cured'' and I now realize I have to buy a new bed.
Seriously this house is a find! The bathrooms, though not shown in the photos, were exceptionally clean and very adequate. Huge plus was the hand held shower in the master bath although the diverter from the main shower head was a challenge to find.
This home is exceptionally appointed. The artwork is off the scale beautiful as are the furnishings. The bedspread in the master bedroom is so beautiful I was afraid to use it! The kitchen is well equipped and very clean. Since we were there in the cold, we didn't use the outside garden area but it did look very inviting. This home is on a quiet street and nicely located. Rose met us upon arrival and she is a gem.
Often I am in Santa Fe on business and will look no further for my next place to stay. This is IT!
This was our very first experience with VRBO and a very positive one!! Our month at this retreat was nothing short of spectacular! Home is exactly as photos project - very large bedrooms with plenty of drawer space and very comfortable beds. Kitchen is well stocked though we only used it for breakfast and lunch as there were so many good local restaurants which we visited once a day. Enjoyed many lunches and happy hours on our private patio. Do not miss as previous tenants have recommended: La Choza (make reservations), Tomasitas (splurge on the stuffed soapapilla dessert), Tia Sophia's for breakfast or lunch, Orlando's in Taos, Rancho de Chimayo in Chimayo; all were wonderful!!
Other adventures were the flea market in Teseque, shopping in Taos, driving up into the Santa Fe National Forest north of Pecos when aspens were at their peak, shopping local artisans at Governors Palace, Los Alamos, Bandolier Monument, Cumbre-Toltec railroad and hiking to top of Tent Rocks. There are 2 Whole Foods and 1 Trader Joe's within walking distance. Santa Fe Farmers market at the Railyard district on Saturday should not be missed! Be sure to visit the large Catholic church just off the Santa Fe plaza - St. Francis Basilica - owner of retreat headed up interior remodel/painting several years ago. Absolutely beautiful!!. Highlight of our trip had to be the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta - magical is the word that comes to mind. Once in a lifetime experience. Should we ever travel to Santa Fe again, I know where we will be staying!
Our family of 5 (with high school and college kids) just returned from a week at this lovely home. It is exactly as pictured and we felt like guests in someone's home rather than a "rental property" like other VRBO properties we have stayed in. We appreciated the local decor, comfortable beds and a private patio area. It was a great place to return to after day trips to Taos, Tent Rock, Albuquerque, Bandalier, and a rafting trip. If we return to Santa Fe we would love to stay here again.
