Tahoe Paradise House Rental Photos and Description

House, 5 Bedrooms + Loft, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 12) on 1 acre-Riverfront property

Life on the river is truly amazing! Rays Riverfront Retreat is a 2,700 sq ft newly updated home on a large acre lot backing up to the Upper Truckee River. Come enjoy the large private swimming hole directly behind the home with your own beach. Sit on the deck looking out to the river and enjoy gorgeous mountain, river and meadow views. The home is centrally located between all three major south shore ski areas: Kirkwood, Heavenly, Sierra at Tahoe and three great golf courses. Just a short drive to the nightlife, gambling and world class entertainment provided at Stateline by Harvey's, MontBleu, Harrah's and the Hardrock Casino.

The home features 5 spacious bedrooms; including two master bedrooms with king beds and private baths, two bedrooms with queen beds (one with an additional single bed), one room with single bunk beds and a large loft with a sofa/queen bed. The 3.5 newly remodeled baths include dual head showers, jetted tub and heated floor. The home uses a high efficiency tankless water heater. (Never run out of hot water!) About Mike Ray

I have been skiing around Tahoe for over 40 years. A couple of years ago, my family and I realized a longtime dream of owning a vacation home in Lake Tahoe. When looking for this home, we wanted a place that felt like a peaceful mountain retreat. Our family loves the outdoors and all the fun recreation that goes with it; and this vacation home let's us enjoy all of it. We have put a lot of love and effort into upgrading the house into a comfortable and welcome place to enjoy. We hope you enjoy it too.

Mike Ray purchased this house in 2009

Why Mike Ray chose South Lake Tahoe

When we found this property on the Upper Truckee River, we knew we found the right place. It is a beautiful property with a historic ranch on the other side of the river and awesome mountain, river and meadow views. This house is not crammed onto a small lot like so many homes in Tahoe. This home is on an acre with a big deck that overlooks the large grassy area next to the river. We also chose this area because the property is close to Kirkwood, Heavenly and Sierra at Tahoe ski areas. All the amenities of South Lake Tahoe are also nearby.

What makes this house unique

This is one of only a few properties with a home directly on the Upper Truckee River. Swimming in the river and just hanging out and enjoying the beautiful scenery without having to drive anywhere make this property unique. The beautiful beaches of Lake Tahoe are a short drive. Skiing and snowboarding at Kirkwood, Heavenly, and Sierra at Tahoe ski resorts. Backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, biking (Mr. Toad's Wild Ride mountain bike trail is nearby), golfing, all the recreation a mountain enthusiast could want. Fall colors in Hope Valley are just 10 minutes away.

Great experience, great memories!

  • 5 of 5

Dear Claudia and Mike,

We had a wonderful time at your house. It is comfortable, well divided and perfectly organized. Spacious but cozy at the same time. All of us agreed that we had a positive experience being together for the long time for that reason. The beds were all comfortable and the bathroom beautifully remodeled. The jacuzzi: even for our muscles after a day of skiing!! The two boys had a great time playing in the game room. The garden is amazing and we hope there will be another time to come during the summer to appreciate it even more!

On behalf of all of us, thanks for the good memories!

Would gladly come again and rent this amazing cabin!

The house and property was beautiful! We really enjoyed our stay there. House was very clean and well-kept. We had zero complaints about anything during our stay. And dealing with Mike was nothing but pleasant during all of my contacts with him. Would recommend Ray's Riverfront Retreat to anyone planning to spend some time in Tahoe!

Absolutely beautiful and serene. We stayed here for an extended family vacation and were very satisfied. It's close enough to the lake, tourists attractions, and the lake tahoe blvd., but far enough that you get away from the hustle and bustle of tourist traffic. The property is nice, large, and private. The huge backyard leading to the creek is breathtaking. Both kids and adults thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay.

Beautiful large home with spacious lawn in a scenic spot (mountains, river)- perfect for family fun!

  • 5 of 5

There could not have been a more perfect property for our 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration with our kids and grandkids. On a score of 1-5, we'd give it a 10!

The house is well maintained with plenty of space (5 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths) and 2 living rooms - each with a TV. The dining room table is large and there are even 2 nice outdoor tables that we placed end to end for our one fancy meal on the beautiful deck. The wi-fi worked well as did the telephone that is available for local and long distance calls within the US. The house temperature was comfortable as set by the owner so we didn't have to make any adjustments. There was ample parking for our vehicles. The large grassy lawn with a tire swing from one of the trees was perfect for outdoor activities as well as scenic with the river and mountains in view - and also a bench swing at the river's edge.

The house is also within a half hour drive to the Lake Tahoe experiences we enjoyed such as the MS Dixie Cruise, Pope's Beach and Stream Profile to name a few. Just hanging out at the house was a favorite activity since it's such a beautiful, scenic property.

The owner is conscientious about responding to any questions and about instructions for use of the property. Thanks for a fantastic stay!

Lovely Home in a Serene Setting

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the Rays Riverfront Retreat and we could not have been more happy to stay a second time. There was plenty of room for everyone in our party to gather together for meals whether it was at the dining table or on the awesome deck, lounge in the living room, and sleep in the comfortable bedrooms. We utilized the spacious deck for playing cards and eating meals and had a blast playing catch on the expansive lawn ( along with a few naps in the sun). The river was a fun place for my two children to splash around in with supervision. The location of this house is great, just minutes to South Lake but set away in a quiet neighborhood ( great for bike riding). The correspondence with the owner was excellent, giving us all of the information we needed for an enjoyable stay. We look forward to our next visit to the peaceful Rays Riverfront Retreat!

Awesome Weekend!

  • 4 of 5

Had the home over 4th of July Weekend with some friends.

+ Mike is great. He's friendly, easy to deal with and very accommodating. All the information was clear and thorough.

+ The property that the house is on is amazing. The backyard that sits on the small stream is beautiful.

+ The back deck is well done. We probably spend most of our time on the deck.

+ Home is spacious and as far as I could tell all the beds were comfortable. We didn't have any complaints about the sleeping situation.

+ The location is great. It's far enough way, but close enough to everything you want. Market is less than a 5 minute drive.

Cons: (all of the below amounts closer to a reduction of half a star, but couldn't really say it was 5 stars)

- House could be a little better maintained. The kitchen needs some updating. The pantry was musty and dirty with questionable things in some corners. The outside of the house was littered with cobwebs near the doors and windows. A recommendation would be to add a water hose to the deck. It would have been nice to hose down some areas with water to clean it off instead of trying to wet towels to clean all the pollen/dirt off the tables.

- You're asked not to mess with the temperature on the thermostat, but there were times were it was really hot and the fans and windows were just not enough. It would have been nice to have it just a tad cooler, particularly in the late afternoon.

- Could have used some more towels.

Overall: Great experience and would stay again. Maybe we'll give it a shot during the winter.

Owner's Response: Thanks Jeffrey for the feedback. We're glad you had an awesome time over the 4th of July. After your stay, we stopped by the house and noted some of the same problems you mentioned with the cleanliness. We immediately contacted the cleaning service to point out the deficiencies in the deep cleaning categories. Regarding the hose for the back deck, you may have missed it, but there actually is a garden hose at the base of the stairs that is used just for that purpose. In regards to the house temperatures. The house, like the majority of homes in Lake Tahoe does not have air conditioning and yes, you have to cool the house the old fashion way by opening the windows and letting the fresh outdoor air circulate throughout the house. (Please note that during the winter, when the heat is on, you are able to adjust the temperature, but not the heating schedule.) We look forward to your return during the winter and offer a 10% discount to returning guests.
