Wells, in the Southern Coast of Maine, with its beautiful beaches, tasty lobster and Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge is the perfect family vacation town....one of the oldest in Maine!! Here is your Retreat Near the Sea-Rentals start and end on Saturdays in the Summer. This modern house between Drakes Island Beach and Parsons Beach is cozy, yet spacious, sunny and is the ideal vacation home for the beach and nature lover with plenty of nearby beaches, hiking trails and biking areas. It has a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, wireless internet, flat screen TV with CD/DVD as well as books and games for the whole family.
The downstairs has comfortable seating for 8, a Cathedral ceiling, a roomy Master Bedroom/adjoining bathroom and an enclosed porch ideal for reading a good book or relaxing in conversation. Upstairs has 2 comfortable bedrooms with the second bathroom.

Restaurants and Shopping: Wells has an array of resources for your vacation. There are numerous restaurants from casual/low key to fine dining. Of course, seafood restaurants with great fish and Maine lobster are plentiful. Hannafords, a few miles to the south on Rte 1, can provide many of your grocery needs if you prefer home cuisine. There are many areas for shopping to explore from Kittery to Portland!
This "Retreat by the Sea" was lovely and had all the comforts of home. Kitchen had everything you could need if cooking in and everything was immaculate. The owner was so helpful and had prepared a large binder filled with so much information for the area. We went to the Rachel Carson Refuge each day for a one-mile walk, and even in the heat of mid-day, you felt cool on its shaded path. The home is conveniently located to Rte. 9, and it's on the Kennebunk side of Wells. We went to Drake's Island Beach and Parsons Beach in Wells and Gooch's Beach in Kennebunk, which is a mile from the Dock Square shopping area. This home was a wonderful place to stay in a quiet neighborhood which was close to the famous Maine Diner, Joshua's, Bull and Claw, and many other locations for dining. There is an IGA Supermarket and Hannaford's close by for groceries! I would recommend this location for a nice, clean, and quiet stay which is close to anything you need or want to do. Thanks so much to the owner for making our vacation so wonderful !!
We had a good time at the cottage. It is located in one of the most quiet neighborhood in Wells. It's close to the beach. Easy to walk from there. Close to restaurants and attractions. The house is in good condition, was clean and equipped properly. The garage is convenient. However, a few little things could have been better. The landscape would need some love; the photos are nice but in really it needs some improvement. Inside the cottage, the decoration and cleanliness was good. However the sofa was in very bad shape, really need replacing. The flat screen was cool so was the wi-fi. However, we had no cable tv receiver... Those little things didn't reduce the quality of our stay whatsoever but still need to be addressed. We'd recommend it to a friend without a doubt. The owner is friendly and communication went smoothly. Than you.
The property was exactly as advertised, very clean and well maintained. We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet retreat close to the beach. Aurélie provided excellent customer service and was very attentive to our questions.
We have been coming to the Wells/Ogunquit area for many years and didn't know about the beach at Drake Island. A very beautiful, quiet beach that is worth trying.
really well located house ( 30 min for Portsmouth and 30 min from Portland). this is a quiet area, perfect for young kids ( we had a 2-3-4 years old kids and two babies!!). well equiped house close of everything we need (grocery store, restaurant, beachs). the owner have been really nice for us by giving us tip about things to do and about restaurants. this is a house i could live in all year long!!! i will rent it again.
This is a lovely house in a quiet neighborhood of year-round residents. Decor is unique: a modern adaptation of Craftsman style, with lots of built-ins and interesting design features. The house was very clean, and all fixtures and appliances were in very good condition. We spent much of our time with our Maine-resident family, so spent few daytime hours in the house, but there are plenty of games and books, wide-screen TV with DVD player, etc. Kitchen was well-equipped, though there is no dishwasher. The house is close to nice beaches, though parking can be scarce. We would recommend this property to anyone except those with very young children. (Some shelves and other features are placed where a toddler or preschooler can easily run into them. Stairs have no gates.) Owner provided a notebook with a lot of useful information about the house and nearby attractions. She was responsive and helpful during the process of completing rental agreement. All in all, it was as advertised and we would stay there again.
We had a wonderful time with our 18 months old son. The house is big enough that we never felt crowed. The kitchen is fully stock with everything you need.and the BBQ is a super machine!
The beach is 5 minutes away and really calm. The location between Wells and Kennebunk is great since we could visit both beach easily or go out for dinner in both direction.
The owner, Aurelie, was great and made sure we had everything. We truly felt at home away from home. Great beds, great kitchen, living area and we enjoyed the garage to get our son running around a little even when it rained!
I would recommand this house in a second and already have. It's probably the one of the best kept secret in the area... but for how long!
The property is in a comfortable neighborhood which affords easy access to Dock Square in Kennebunkport and many fine restaurants. It is within walking distance of the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge and the National Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm Farm, both of which have nature trails for hiking. It is less than 1.5 miles to the ocean and there is an Eastern Alliance Bike Trail which connects Kittery to South Portland.
Wells, Maine, settled in 1640, continues to be a family friendly town ideal for a summer vacation. The area offers numerous activities in the summer from sailing, deep sea fishing, whale watching, lobstering, sunset cruises, golfing, kayaking, craft fairs, antique shopping, art galleries, the Ogunquit Playhouse and the Kittery Outlets. The town also offers an 11,000 year old Paleo-Indian Site for the explorer/archeologist-minded. It is an ideal setting for rejuvenating your spirit and re-creational fun!
