Charming 1930's cottage on approximately 5 acres studded with redwoods. This cottage is approximately 1800 sq. ft. and has a view of Mt. Diablo. It is all 1 level with 1 step up from the dining area. The third bedroom is set up as a den with queen sofa bed, laundry area and television. There is a lovely private yard with fountain. There are 2 fireplaces, wood floors and knotty pine walls. There are 2 bathrooms, one with shower and the other with shower over tub. Additionally, there is a dining room with fireplace and view . The cottage is private and set well away from the main house. It shares use of the pool, hot tub and outdoor entertainment area(kitchen, fireplace, bath and waterfall) with the main house. You are surrounded by redwoods and oaks. The property has a 'Zen' like feeling. When you drive down the driveway you feel you are out in the country, yet you are only minutes from downtown Oakland and SFO. Wildlife abounds. Hiking, biking and horseback riding trails are nearby. A perfect place to unwind.
62 year old retired realtor. Loves horses and outdoor sports. I have horses on the property and enjoy riding.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1990
The setting is to die for. When you drive down the driveway you feel as though you are miles away from everything, yet you are only minutes away! The peace and setting nurture your mind.
Bucolic views, sounds of nature, wildlife and warmer weather that Montclair village.
WOW! The only way to describe the setting. Pictures do not do it justice. It is like an oasis close to everything. Flowers everywhere, great smells, incredible views from almost every window. Hot tub for evening relaxation and plenty of yard games for the teenagers. We went hiking every day and could walk to the trails from the property. We loved it and will definitely be back!!!
We give this place 7 stars!!!
Our family of total 6 people had stayed in the lovely house for 6 nights, really good experence and quite enjoyable for us! The house have 3 bedrooms just fit our 6 people , inside decorating are very matching with the style of house , looks confortable and relaxed, l like the dinning room of the house, very bright with wide scene of outside yard and park. I like the big yard of the house, with many facility we can use, include barbecue stove, swiming pool, etc. The total surrounding are very quiet and with full natural scene and feeling, if i have more time, i would like to spend more time here, it is a place to make you only want to stay here for relaxing, however, it is also very convenient for us to go San francisco for sight seeing and shopping, by driving only 30 mintues to downtown.
Nearby 5 minutes driving can reach Safeway Super market, and some restaurant, very convenient for us. Just one thing, in one Bedroom the bed is Sofa bed, before check out, i tried to fold away, but it seems something wrong with Sofa bed, and i hope Mr. Rrandy had fixed it up after our leaving, i am sorry for that. Anyway, i'd love to come back to stay here in the future!By the way, Mr. Randy are very kind, warm and hospitable, i like to chat with him.
We've stayed in many vacation rentals over the years, and this is one of my favorites. The property is gorgeous. It's quiet and serene. The setting is nature filled...wild turkeys taking a stroll in the late afternoon on the side lawn, hawks soaring overhead, breathtaking sunrises over hillside vistas, and occasional fogged-in mornings (it IS the Bay Area after all!) that call for a second cup of coffee and snuggling in for a morning of reading and relaxing. The house is indeed rustic and casual as others have mentioned. It's comfy and perfectly functional, however. Also as previously noted, the kitchen is tiny. We had dinner guests 4 out of 7 nights there and I had no trouble getting meals prepared. It's perfectly serviceable. It's a little like cooking in a boat galley. Everything is there and works, it's just compact. The dining area is roomy with windows to allow the outside in...perfect for a quiet breakfast watching the sunrise or a leisurely dinner party with friends and family. We'll be back!
Great house with a fabulous view and a great yard. We would definitely recommend this property.
Comfy cottage, close to SF yet very secluded on a large, beautiful property. Would definitely stay here again.
A 'home-away-from-home' feel ... this 'spa retreat' (as many have called it ... and I agree!) is nothing but easy to settle into. Once we got there I wanted to stay rather than adventure into the city (which is very easy to access, not to mention if you forget any grocery items the store is a less than five minute drive away)! My family has now visited here for a long weekend trip twice, and I have nothing but positive things to say about both experiences. I miss it already! From waking up to sip coffee in the light filled space of the East-facing sunroom (with a fireplace!) to spending evenings by the pool (where exists yet another fireplace!) our stays in this home fell nothing short of fun, relaxing, rejuvenating and enjoyable. Sue and Randy are warm and welcoming, and their dogs are as sweet as ever. I will most definitely continue to look to staying here any time my travels should take me to the bay area as this place has captured my heart with its charm, views (natural and garden), light, peacefulness and fun, inviting atmosphere... and would recommend it to anyone who likes to balance the adventures of their travels with the rejuvenation of a peaceful oasis get-away not too far from the hustle and bustle.
This is a wonderful, hidden hideaway in the Oakland Hills. Although only minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you are surrounded by tranquility, amazing mountain views, and majestic redwoods. The cottage itself is a bit more rustic than we expected, and the kitchen is tiny and not really functional for preparing complete family meals, but the setting and convenience to urban life more than make up for that fact.
CLOSE TO REDWOOD REGIONAL PARK FOR MILES OF HIKING ORMOUNTAIN BIKING.
