Philippe Doh purchased this studio in 1998
My girlfriend and I have stayed with Philippe and Janine 2.5 times-- it should have been 3 times, but this last stay, there was a plumbing issue the day before we were to check in... so they amazingly found us another place to stay just blocks away! So, while we didn't actually stay here the 3rd time... I'm giving them credit for the awesome customer service!
As for their place: It's great. I feel comfortable in NYC and love riding the subway, so even though it's not super convenient to midtown and "cooler" areas, it's super convenient to a number of subway lines. Or, take a cab/Uber and it's easy to get where you need to be. But, we've found a lot of cool stuff just blocks away-- you just need to explore a bit and walk around!
All this reminds me: Time to book another NY trip!
Philippe and Janine made everything possible to guarantee that our stay in NYC could be the best experience ever. We felt like home, thanks to him, Janine, and their wonderful friend Teresa. I'll surely recommend them to family and friends and stay with them again!
We absolutely loved this place. It was our first time using VRBO and I can't express how happy we were to go the non hotel route for our very first trip to NYC. And we'll probably do the same thing when we return. We've done a lot of traveling and this place made us feel at home. It was cozy, warm and comfortable to return to after a long day of sightseeing and walking. Personably I loved the neighborhood. It had lots of character and it close to subways which made it very convenient to get from A to Z. People were nice and helpful when asking about directions. Lots of restaurants to choose from as well, like Picante and Solace. It was safe and we felt safe.
I would recommend this place for people who want to be in the chaos of NYC but RETURN to a calm, quiet and nice place to stay at and feel like you were in your own living room. Only thing To consider is the bed is a full. My spouse is 6'2 (and I'm 5'1) and us sleeping on a full was tight but a small price to pay for such an awesome stay.
The owners are sweet and respond to your questions/concerns quickly... If there are any. We are gonna miss NYC. Thank you Philippe and Janine!
I enjoyed my stay very much . It is a nice very modern updated place with a good location to the subway. Since I love food, there is all kinds restaurants or walk ins just a block away. The owners are very accommodating if you have any questions.
I am definitely going back there if I visit New York City again.
We really enjoyed staying here. The owners were prompt with emails & information. Checking in and out was very easy and they were flexible with our schedule. The room was in great condition - the bathroom was very clean (note: it wasn't clear to us in the photos but there is a sliding door). We were very close to two subway stops and there are some great restaurants nearby. Again, we would recommend this for any young couples eager to have a base for exploring the city.
I was very pleased with this spot and I'm keeping it as my spot when I go to NYC. I'm a New Yorker (from Lower East Side) but wanted to be in a less busy, more affordable place. The owners were very accomodating with a little situation at the start of the time there and went above and beyond to rectify which I appreciated. Customer service is important and they showed they knew the value of that.
The place is so adorable and perfect with its own private entrance. It is located on a quiet street and what I loved is that as a Latinos we found a great restaurant Caridad to eat mangu! There was also a great domican place to get my hair done up the block for a wedding that weekend for $25!!
The AC was powerful and in the middle of summer it was perfect. The bathroom is amazing and the bed which I thought would be uncomfortable was actually quite comfy. Other than a little room in bathroom or more light by the mirror by entrance (for us makeup girls), this place was perfect.
I already told my friends about this spot and will definitely be back soon!
