About Melanie and Jim Buckshaw
We built Black Ankle Lodge as a getaway home. We have a love and respect for the outdoors. This cabin is special to our family and we visit it often. We know you will enjoy it as much as we do.
Melanie and Jim Buckshaw purchased this Cabin in 2002
Why Melanie and Jim Buckshaw chose Cherry Log
We choose to build Black Ankle Lodge on this site because of the endless Chattahoochee National Forest behind it. It offers total privacy and wildlife viewing. Black Ankle is conveniently located, 13 miles, to the town of Blue Ridge. Just minutes to the Toccoa River & Lake Blue Ridge. The property is nestled on a mountain ridge with the Chattahoochee National Forest surrounding the cabin and has two springs running through it. Conveniently located near the Appalachian Trail system/Benton MacKaye suspension bridge and Chattahoochee National Forest. It offers spacious outdoor activity without leaving the grounds. Various hiking trails are right off the property. If you like to jog or mountain bike, it's the perfect workout, or enjoy peaceful walks or hikes in beautiful surrondings.

The Cabin was the best that we have rented since we started coming to this area. We had 3 couples and each couple slept on a different level with their own bathroom. Everything we needed in the Kitchen was available for cooking. The cabin is close to hiking and a kayaking place. Overall, it was a great stay and will come back to this property.
Thank you for the review, Eric. We're glad you were comfortable and had a great stay. Please come back.
Beautiful, well kept cabin!
We just left this awesome place! We came up with two families and made amazing memories. The cabin is so spacious with three levels, a bedroom and full bathroom on every level! The cabin is very clean and very well kept. Melanie, the homeowner was more than accommodating even giving personal directions to some fishing spots!!! Our family will definitely be back again! My kids are so sad to leave!!!
Relax in the mountains with 4 littles
So, I really enjoyed this cabin. 1. Location. Remote, but 30 or < to Elijay or blue ridge. Hot tub had only one far far away neighbor view when standing. The back is the national Forrest and like our own exploration location. We went to the start of the AT, Benton McKay t, and a number of water falls like long and falls creek. It’s central location was perfect. The toccoa riverside restaurant was 10-15 min away and was quite good. I loved their veggie burger and smashed sweet potatoes. Hit the gas station and grocery store before heading to the cabin. Nearest gas station 14+ away. 2. Hot tub was great, private and got hot with good bubble strength. Right off one main bedroom. 3. Bedrooms were nice. The bottom bedroom was off the basement unfinished laundry room and that was away from us too far, so our little ones slept in the loft, which they thought was the cats meow. 3. Kitchen was nice. Had what we needed. I brought coffee filters and all my fixins and it was good. Don’t forget coffee and filters. The drinking water was yummy. 4. Drive way was very steep, but there was a flat area behind the house. However, kids didn’t play outside alone because I was afraid that they’d topple down the hill. 5. Washer and dryer. Washer worked, but needed cleaned. Dryer was broken. Boo. Thankfully the clothes dried fast on the decking. 6. Owners were quite responsive. Had the dryer looked at the day after I texted. 7. Screened in porch up top with the hammock was great. There were zero bugs the last week of March into April, but emergence started while we were there... with a vengeance. I expect the screened in porch would have been used by us a lot. 8. There is a stream at the base of the hill that our girls loved to play in. And had critters like salamanders. Overall, I was happy with the stay and would come again. It was exactly what I was looking for: solitude in nature with amenities. The WiFi was also dope and worked in every room, even in the yard.
Thank you! So happy you had a great stay at Black Ankle Lodge, please come back!
