This is a FANTASTIC place for an idyllic week at the beach. We took our two girls, 5 and 3, for their first beach vacation, and they're already bugging us to back. We sadly told them they'd have to wait until next summer, but we're planning on making an annual pilgrimage, and can't imagine a better place to stay than this house.
The property is a block to the pool, and two blocks to a wonderfully uncrowded and unspoiled private beach. Our little kids had no trouble walking it. The pool is wonderful, and even has a diving board.
The neighborhood is quiet and the people friendly. It's also an easy bike into town. The ride is just over a mile and totally flat. So you have easy access to the Boardwalk, Funland, and everything else Rehoboth has to offer, without the noise, crowds, or parking problems.
We fell in love with this house, which has interesting mid-century modern architecture, and a huge breezy screen porch for passing the summer evenings.
The house is well appointed. It doesn't have a hot tub, theater room, or elevator, but has everything you actually need, such as dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer, coffee maker, microwave, etc. There's a huge brand new gas grill on the porch, outdoor shower, etc.
The first day we got there the temps were over 100, and the window AC units struggled a bit to keep up, but it was still quite tolerable. The rest of the time they were more than sufficient to keep it cool.
We neglected to bring our own linens, which was our own fault for not reading the rental agreement closely enough.
Not related to the house directly, but if you want to avoid the hassle of bringing and setting up your own beach umbrellas, you can arrange rentals at the office of the pool, which is just a block from this house. A truck full of strapping young men drives along the beach every morning at 9:30, securelly installing umbrellas and chairs. You can arrange for one or more to be waiting for you with your name on it.
We cannot recommend this property highly enough.
Great place -- very comfortable queen bed in master; great porch as everyone has written; kitchen small but excellent -- extra wet bar makes it easy to prepare food in two places; well-stocked kitchen, everything in home worked great; NORTH SHORES LOCATION unbeatable with great pool and close access to beach. Price is high but a good value for location
This is a great house! The decor is elegant and mod without being stuffy. It's classic and sleek while also being comfortable. The amenities are all you will need and the layout is great. The screened in porch is such a bonus and really extends the house so much. The back deck is great especially for stargazing at night. Outdoor shower is another bonus. I can't think of anything negative to write. The walk to the beach is under 5 min, the pool you have access to is fantastic. One note bring tennis rackets as they have balls but no rackets. Only about 1 mile to town but walkable and always found a parking spot (depends on what week you are there) but bike rentals are easy. If you walk bring a flashlight as its very dark walking back! would highly recommend this house!!
We rent a fair number of properties in various parts of the country. We're a little picky. 3 our of every 5 times we find ourselves a little disappointed. This is one of the best experiences we have had. The location is perfect, but equally as important, the property was very clean, even by our standards. It's still a beach cottage with all the expected quirks (window a/c for example) but we enjoyed it very much and spent almost all the time out on the really big and comfortable screened porch. You can rent this home with confidence.
The house was perfect for our group as there is a lot of open, common space where you can just take time to play cards, relax, or chat with friends. The private beach was only a block away and was not crowded at all, compared to the stretches of beach further south. Boardwalk was within walking distance but I would recommend renting or bringing bikes to make the trip. Overall, it was a great weekend and the house was perfect for our group of 8.
We've vacationed in the Outer Banks a few times, but wanted something closer to home in the Northeast this year. We were two families - four parents, four kids (ages 6-9). It was our first time renting in Rehoboth, and we enjoyed the stay very much.
Best things: Location: the house is just around the corner from the beach, a two minute walk; and this section of beach (North Shores) was far less crowded than near the Rehoboth boardwalk. Easy to pop over to the beach and back, say, for lunch...or to go back over for a walk at night. The house is well kept (maybe aging a bit), but clean and nicely landscaped. It has lots of natural light, in a very nice neighborhood on a quiet street. A big yard for the kids to run around outside. A great big screened porch for meals and hanging out. The pool is a block away, and the staff there was always helpful. The owner was extremely accommodating, informative, responsive, and friendly.
We walked down to the Rehoboth boardwalk a few times in the evenings. It's about a mile walk on the beach, but our kids made it without a problem. Other highlights: there's music on the boardwalk almost every night, it seems. We also caught some crabs for fun in the harbor across the street from the pool. Rented a surrey bicycle (for eight!) on the boardwalk one morning. Cape Henlopen State Park is just up the road, and we also rented kayaks in Lewes, near the ferry terminal, for a morning of bay kayaking. Also had a few date nights, with a fantastic meal at "A-Muse" (highly recommended) and another at Saketumi.
A few things to keep in mind: Parking in town is a bit difficult. Bring tons of quarters (we got them at the arcades) for the meters. We wished the wall unit air conditioners were a bit quieter, and that the pool was open later than 5 in the evenings. Our daughter got bitten by green headed flies on the beach one day, and had a reaction, so bring some bug spray.
All that aside, this felt like a classic, old school beach vacation, one we were all sad to have come to an end. We'd eagerly rent here again!
In the community of North Shores, 1 mile north of town of Rehoboth. Throughout the summer and fall season, the town holds art exhibits, a jazz festival, chocolate festival, and other cultural activities.
Other Activities: canoeing, kayaking
