About Steve Goffar

My wife and I are both Midwesterners but the Army has taken us away for 25+ years. The Lake house in Ellsworth is that place that brings our family back together. We love the privacy of the wooded location and the great beach. The gentle slope into the water is great for the kids and the boating is great. We hope you'll love the house as much as we do.

Steve Goffar purchased this house in 2009

Why Steve Goffar chose Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan is a beautiful area that evokes images of the wonderful times we shared with our friends and family in our youth. The lake is beautiful, uncrowded and still offers all the opportunities for fun expected on an all sports lake.

What makes this house unique

This is a fantastic lake house that offered us amenities that were uncommon in other cottages. We are able to enjoy the beauty of the lake and wide open property without giving up any of the luxury you expect from a fine home.

Lovely property!

  • 5 of 5

Very spacious, well equipped home in great condition. Plenty of activity options for all ages. We really liked how private and wooded the home was. The lake is very quiet and still, perfect for canoeing and fishing. Cute towns are a short drive away, such as East Jordan, Bellaire, Alden and Charlevoix. Would recommend for those looking for quiet family time.

Great Lake and amenities

  • 5 of 5

Two families with 5 kids shared the house for a week. Plenty of space to eat, relax and sleep. Second queen bedroom is next to the bunk room. Dock is fun for jumping and sandy beach was a big hit. The lake is warm and calm so we had a blast tubing. I even swam across the lake - very little weeds beyond lily pads near the shore. Kids loved riding in the golf cart almost as much as tubing!

Beautiful house , quiet place!

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous house located in the woods with private beach access. Far a way from noise and tragic jams. Perfect place to relax and recharge. We enjoyed pedal boating, golf cart, table tennis and pool table all available on property. There are a lot of attractions in the area if you don't mind little drive. House is located 1.5 hours away from Sleeping Bear Dunes, 1.5 hrs from Mackinac Island, 1 hr to Traverse city. Owners are really nice and helpful. We loved it!

Quiet Lake Front Home But Needs Some TLC

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed 6 mile Lake. My husband fished and caught bass, perch and pike. The rest of our family enjoyed skiing and tubing, many times without seeing another boat on the lake. This was perfect for kids learning to ski. The property has a nice dock with boat lift so we could leave the boats in the water for most of the week when we didn't trailer to a larger lake. Loved having the golf cart to get to the dock from the house (steep incline but short walk) Kids enjoyed the canoe, but the paddle boat needed some work (pedals rusty) The house was roomy with 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths and 1 half bath. I would recommend bringing extra towels, definitely not enough towels for a family of 9 and the towels provided were poor quality. We washed towels 4-5 times during the week to keep up with showers. I would also recommend bringing extra blankets. Linens were provided but the blankets were not soft or warm. The queen bedroom downstairs has too much furniture for the size of the room making it difficult to get in and out of the one side of the bed. Front porch and back deck have plenty of chairs as well as extra adirondack type chairs for the fire pit up by the house. Gas grill provided and had extra tank if needed. Pool table in the finished basement of the house, ladder ball and ping pong table in the garage were a pleasant surprise. Big Kitchen with 4 bar stools and big kitchen table that seats 8. The ice maker didn't work in the refrigerator and the dishes need upgaded, many with chips. The rustic appearance of the interior was fun but the cleaning staff need to focus on the dust. All of the decor was dusty along with the fans and bed posts. Limited Wifi available (had to call the owner for the password because it was not included with home instructions) and 4G sketchy on the dock, often not available on the lake. Overall, a roomy home with many amenties, but could use some up keep to make it worth the rental.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback. We are in the process of replacing the refrigerator again and if we rent the property in the future we will update the towels and dishes. We are happy that the lake and property was enjoyed by your party.

Loved the beach area - enjoyed playing in the sand with our granddaughter. The home has plenty of room to relax and enjoy family time.

Quiet area - very peaceful. Short drive to quaint towns for shopping and sightseeing. We'll definitely be back!
