Casa Mulino

Casa Mulino is the perfect apartment for a small family or two befriended couples who wish to take a holiday together. A bathroom and bedroom on the ground floor as well as on the first floor, allows one to retire undisturbed while the large, cozy kitchen-with-living-room is ideal for long evenings together. Casa Mulino has a direct exit to the garden's patio behind the house. The casa is one of four newly furnished row house which were completely renovated in 2003/2004. Each house has its own entrance, and pairs of houses share a common garden (each with an outdoor area and seating area).

About the property

Fattoria di Meleto

Meleto is a protected building of historic importance. The estate consists of a grand villa, houses and agricultural buildings. There is a large Italian park behind the villa where one can stroll between statues, lemon trees and box hedges . One may also enjoy the sun and the view of the Tuscan landscape from the spaciously laid out pool (15 x 7m). Casa Lucia is a house with a large garden and a private pool (4,5 x 9,5 m); the other residences consist of row houses - each with their own outdoor area. They have been renovated recently and have been furnished tastefully in Tuscan country style. The owner, an Italian/German family, lives on the estate, meaning that you can enjoy the Italian way of life without language difficulties. The landlady will be happy to provide you with tips about the region, to explain the history of Meleto or to assist you with language problems.

Meleto and Children: Meleto is a paradise for children. It has plenty of space to play, frolic and discover. The nearby fields and forests are ideal for exploring and there is no need to cross a dangerous road. Meleto is also large enough that there's no need to worry that your children might disturb the other guests. Our sons (born in 1994 and 1997) are both bilingual and always happy to have other children to play with. Every family with children who have spent their holidays in Meleto during the past few years have all either returned or rebooked; under pressure from the children, but certainly not against their will.

Personal Atmosphere: The owners of Meleto have taken great care to preserve a typical mixture of an imposing aristocratic country manor and a Tuscan fattoria which is still used for agriculture. In this way, Meleto is more than a sterile vacation complex, run by some anonymous corporation. On the contrary, it is place in which the family has been living for centuries. Meleto's personal and individual character has been helped by the many regular guests who have been returning for years. They have become household friends and continue to pass the tip onto friends. Meleto offers both sociability and tranquillity. Meet new people in the common areas or retreat into your own individual realm. The property is so spacious that every body will be able to find his or her own solitary space.

Running in Tuscany: Have you ever been running in Tuscany? The rolling hills and mild climate provide perfect training grounds throughout the year. Even during July and August, the mornings and evenings offer sufficient room to enjoy the Tuscan landscape in a very different way. A medieval pilgrimage route leads past Meleto: via Francigena. It is little traveled, a bit hilly, and unpaved. It takes you from the front door past pines and olives, vineyards, crops of sunflowers, fields and forests. Should you prefer a flat surface to run on, it is possible to traverse the Elsa Valley beneath the hill, from which you can admire Meleto from below. For conditioned runners, it is possible to combine both routes without having to spend much time on asphalt roads. The landlady is a runner herself and will be more than happy to show you where to go. Don't forget your running shoes!

Quiet, tranquil space

  • 4 of 5

Charlotte(Charli) is a marvellous host and very helpful in suggesting local attractions and restaurants. Our time at her villa was most enjoyable. We occupied a reasonable sized unit just off the main house. It is traditional in style. Would have been good to have located some English channels on the TV, but a very small point as we spent most of our time travelling from Sienna to Florence and Pisa, all in easy driving distance. The property is large with beautiful gardens. Charli shared her thoughts on some wonderful restaurants close by. If you can't speak Italian don't worry. The locals are very hospitable and eager to deliver some great food. If you want a relaxing time in a quiet environment of Tuscany you should enjoy.

Traumhafte Toskana

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Casa Frantoio

  • 4 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Fattoria's location is ideal for those visiting Tuscany; Siena, Pisa and Volterra are all 50 km away. There are also a number of small towns nearby with plenty of Tuscan charm: Vinci, Certaldo Alto, San Gimignano, San Miniato and Empoli. The beaches of the Mediterranean are less than an hour's drive away. Should you prefer to relax and enjoy Tuscany’s landscapes, then you may wish to walk, hike or mountain bike along the via Francigena which was once one of medieval Europe's most important pilgrimage routes. Via Francigena leads right past Fattoria di Meleto. It goes without saying that one may simply relax in a deck chair or sit at a set table and enjoy the view of Tuscany's hills. A large supermarket in Castelfiorentino along with a number of local weekly markets will cover all of your shopping needs. A number of discount airlines offer inexpensive flights to Pisa. Meleto is 3/4 of an hour away.

Other Activities: running, outdoor chess in the garden, bicycle rentals in Castelfiorentino

Golf: There are two golf clubs in the area around Meleto. The Fontevivo Golf Club (San Miniato) is located about 10 km away. It has a small, 9-hole, 62 par course. A bit further (about 30 km), you'll arrive at the Castelfalfi Golf & Country Club (18 holes, 73 Par). Additional information about facilities, location or e-mail addresses, can be found on the internet, under the names of the respective clubs. We are, of course, happy to help our guests with reservations, concrete inquiries, etc.
