June 9 -12 2012 was the third visit for my fiend Bob & I. We started in 2010 – see my review “Cabin or Cottage?” 06/26/2010 – and looked forward to returning each year. This year I brought my 5.5 year old grandson. This was our first overnight experience together and I am happy to say we both ‘survived.’ The in cabin Dish TV helped two old guys temper the boundless energy of this boy for part of the time. But it was the fishing bug that secured his eternal(?) interest in fishing, and returning to Fish Inn. He caught 7 fish in two days on Hat Creek. I was shocked, amazed and thrilled. My friend & I and I have never had more fun fishing without wetting a line, or our pants. Joann & Ray are great people and have just the right sense for how much external attention their guest desire. The cabin is flawless and maintained in an impeccable manner. You will not be disappointed when spending a few days at Fish Inn.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.
We've been repeat guests to the Fish Inn over Labor Day weekend for the past few years and it continues to charm. This place is great for dog owners because it's got a fenced backyard that abuts the National Forest - there's literally the National Forest Boundary sign next to the fence so no neighbors behind the Fish Inn (except the wildlife). Every morning and evening we'd take the dogs out the back gate on an easy walk up the trail paralleling Hat Creek. The cabin is perfect - enough linens, kitchen utensils, kitchen wares, dishes, pots, pans, glass ware, etc. New to the cabin are two fans for each bedroom. The bedroom off the kitchen had the smaller fan which worked great to get some air flow.
We loved sitting on the front porch in the morning and evening relaxing. Our dogs loved it too - we often found them sitting on the front porch with paws draped over the front step enjoying the cool mountain air.
This is a great little cabin centrally located - almost equidistant to Lassen National Park in one direction and Burney in the other direction. We checked out Subway Cave, Butte Lake, took in the Inter-Mountain Fair in McArthur, and ate excellent pizza at Uptown Pizza in Fall River Mills.
The night sky is definitely not washed out by city lights - there are so many stars to be seen, my husband had a hard time identifying some common constellations because of so many stars! The night sky doesn't disappoint!
Adorable cabin right on fishing river. Great walks right from the cabin. The owners are the friendliest couple, with good advice, interesting stories about the area and are always available for any assistance. The place is decorated in a fly fishing theme, which compliments the beautiful outdoor surroundings. It was extremely clean with nice sheets, a closet full of plush towels, a fully stocked kitchen and stacks of blankets (which were kindly offered to us for our stargazing nights). We mentioned how cold we were during the night. The next morning we found a set of gloves on our car window. There are comfortable chairs on both the front and back porches. The backyard has a big gas grill with all the needed utensils plus a wood-laden fire pit. Hummingbirds flew right up to me while I sat outside enjoying the sunny morning and vivid blue skies. Easily accessible to Lassen Volcanic National Park. Great little family restaurant, JJ's, in town. Good solid food, friendly locals from this town of 52 people(!) that enjoy talking to you. PCT hikers wander by, picking up resupply boxes at the local post office. We loved everything about this place and cannot recommend it enough. Go! Stay! You will love it and be happy that you did. Also close to Burney Falls, one of the prettiest waterfalls I've ever seen and the Subway lava tube which you hike through. Safeway grocery store only about 30 minutes away and also close to the Falls. We spent the time watching the Pleiades Meteorite shower from the backyard, within the park and in a field close by. If you love stargazing this is the place to go...its one of the darkest areas in the country, You can see the Milky Way every night. We sincerely hope to go back one day.
I had been fishing Hat Creek since I was in grade school and now that I am in my 60's tent camping is not the best option for comfort. I found the Fish Inn and it was perfect. The owners were very gracious and accommodating. The house was spotless and very comfortable. It was the perfect getaway with friends and we caught several fish. I would definitely stay there again.
Came up with my Son Frank Jr. and 5 friends. Caught a lot of fish as usual and the place was clean and perfect
and we left it the same way. I wouldn't go anywhere else but the Fish Inn all thw comfort of home and more. The nice owners even left a 10 man tent in the back if we brought more people.
My third time up Once with my Girlfriend she Loved it to.
You Guys are the Best. Thanks for another wonderful trip.
We stayed at the Fish Inn for 2 days while we visited Lassen. The place was great and Ray and Joanne couldn't have been better hosts. The place is spacious and clean and was recently renovated. The kitchen was well-equipped. Although it was in the high 80's/low 90's during our visit, the place quickly cooled off when we just opened windows. Joanne recommended Burney Falls State Park, which we decided to visit on our way out. The Falls were a great way to spend a morning. There is an outdoor firepit and they had even set up a fire for us. To top it all, they picked up a loaf of bread for us when they went shopping. It is about a 40 minute drive to Lassen Peak, but we didn't really mind it.
My husband loves stream fishing. Hat Creek was 80 feet from the back deck. I love peace and quiet with the ability to take long walks and this was the perfect location for all the above. Ray and Joann were extremely accommodating. The Cabin was clean, well stocked and a perfect set up for two of us and our small yorkie Scooter. We could not have been more pleased and hope to return again. Hubby caught fish and I caught some Zzz's and nice walks, this was the perfect getaway!
