Trinity Trails Ranch is 24 acres of heaven, located in the heart of Texas. The ranch is nestled between the towns of Whitney and Hillsboro on Lake Aquilla just 45 minutes south of the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex. There is about a mile of dirt roads on the property to explore and view the natural beauty of the woods and observe the wildlife. It’s peaceful, quiet, secluded, and the stars at night light up the sky. We hate to head back home every time we come to enjoy the ranch.
The custom designed ranch house we call our 'cabin' was built in 2008 and is nearly 1400 square feet arranged in a great open floor plan. It is situated on 6 of the acres in Trinity Trails, but you can explore the entire ranch and the 50 acres of Corp land next to the lake.
The master has a King, second bedroom has a queen, and the third has a set of twin beds that can be arranged as bunk beds. There is also a full bed in the loft and a queen sofa sleeper if you need more places to sleep.
Come enjoy the cabin, use the canoes on the lake, fishing off the shore, sitting around the campfire, and making great memories with friends and family in a unique get away that won't be soon forgotten. The cabin is about 100 yards from the shoreline, canoes only 50 yards away with a caddy to make it easy to wheel them to the water.
The incredible fishing on Lake Aquilla is one of the best kept secrets in Texas. It's chalked full of bass, crappie, and channel catfish. And Trinity Trails Ranch is set right next to one of the prime fishing spots. And if water skiing, sailing, or scuba diving is more to your liking, Lake Whitney is just a few miles away and is considered one of the top two lakes in all of Texas.
The cabin is very well equipped. We have Direct TV with a 40' flat screen TV and WIFI internet. Plenty of games including a foosball table, dart board, and poker cards/chips. A complete kitchen stocked with all the normal appliances, coffee pot, pots/pans, dishes and glasses, cooking utensils, and a gas grill on the back patio means all you need to bring is groceries.
And as with any place in the country there is a great variety of wildlife to be seen. There are deer, armadillos, wild turkey, the occasional snake, and all kinds of birds...hawks and even bald eagles have stopped by.
Note: Boats can be easily left just inside the front gate as there are so many trees, a couple dips, and turning around with a boat is difficult except at the pasture.
Canoes: Life jackets are provided and must be used at all times. Children must be accompanied by an adult when in the canoes.
We have always wanted to have a cabin in the woods we could share with friends and family and we finally built that dream on a very special piece of property!
Sean Lynes purchased this cabin in 2008
I had been looking for years for just the right property for us. This heavily wooded ranch on a lake and with so much room has allowed us to build our dream cabin.
Celebrating Tom's 60th birthday here was wonderful. He relaxed, walked, played & enjoyed our 2 daughters & sons-in-law. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us. We hope to be back someday. The food Roseanne fixed was delicious. Thank you for telling us about them. May the Lord bless you richly because we were blessed by being here.
Overall, The Lone Star Cabin was a wonderful place to spend Independence Day. We were a bit disappointed at the distance to the actual lake (sure, it is water front in the sense that there is nothing between the house and the water... but don't expect to see water without a good hike). Great distance to Lake Whitney... easy access to most things and a peaceful environment.
The house was very clean except for the nats (do not open the doors at night, they will swarm). Well stocked kitchen, comfy beds, good water pressure in the showers. We loved sitting on the porch and would love to go back and take advantage of the fire pit!
We all enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It accommodated us and our two children's families very well. What I liked best was the campfires out back and access to the lake (too windy for canoeing during our stay, but the wind speed was above average for this area and season). Great access to lake Whitney for bigger boating adventures. Foosball table was a hit with the children. This cabin is just what the owner says, so if you like the description, you are going to love your stay. Sean was prompt and helpful, a great host.
The thing that killed my kids was the distance from the cabin to the canoe storage location, then the distance from there to the actual lake. Quite a hike, even when using the "portage" wheels for the canoe.
The lake itself was very "empty" of other boats, which was nice. The fire-pit area was a short hike behind the cabin but lit with LED lanterns so you could find your way at night.
The property was heavily wooded, which provided shade, but the heat was stifling because this also kept the breeze from helping.
The road in is basically a dirt road, and with the steep drop and climb across a low water crossing, I would think one would be hard pressed to get in and out if the road was wet/muddy, it would likely require 4WD.
The only time we saw other people was when we drove by the first cabin coming in. We did hear the "crazy" guy we could screaming nonsense somewhere close by for several hours. It made for an interesting experience, but he evidently never approached where we were staying.
One major drawback was that the only TV was in the living room. This is the only property we have stayed at from "HomeAway" that didn't have a TV in each bedroom, even the master was devoid of a TV. Some may think this is a bonus ;-)
Getting into the cabin was effortless, and we didn't have any problems with the property, utilities, etc while we were there.
THE CABIN WAS QUIET & PEACEFUL ALL THE AMENITIES OF HOME. GREAT TIME. ONLY WISH THAT IT WAS BOAT FRIENDLY.
This cabin was exactly what we were looking for. It was close to a grocery store (about 10 miles?) but secluded enough to not see or hear anyone else on our stay. The camping and fire pit area was perfect and the house had everything we needed (pots, pans, spices, coffee pot/filters...even a griddle). I'd highly recommend this place.
