Sunny Ridge Cabin is a cozy, quiet place to rest while visiting all the best that Northwest Michigan has to offer.

A wooded walk down the country road brings you to the foot of our hill and access to the upper Platte River. There is superb trout fishing & swimming in warm weather. Sunny Ridge Cabin is located on 53 acres of private land bordered on the south and west by thousands of acres of State Forests. Our north border is a county maintained country road/trail that leads directly to state snowmobile/hiking trails and the Michigan Shore to Shore hiking and horseback riding trail.

Mushroom hunt, hike, cross country ski, snowshoe, snowmobile, mountain bike or horse ride right from your doorstep. It is just one mile to the canoe & kayak access on the upper Platte River (Veterans Park). We’re just 15 minutes from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore or Interlochen Art Academy. The Benzie area is host to many inland lakes and rivers, as well as gorgeous Lake Michigan beaches. Just minutes to world renown Crystal Downs Golf Course. Traverse City is a short 20 minutes to the NE and offers fabulous dining and shopping opportunities, plus the largest regional airport. Airway Estates airstrip is just 2 miles north.

The area has many things to offer; fishing charter boats in Frankfort, Boat rental on Crystal Lake, Antiques, Cherry Bowl Drive-In Movie Theater, Gwen Frostic's Presscraft Papers, Dune Climb at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Concerts at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Traverse City Cherry Festival, TC Film Festival, Beach Bums - Minor League Baseball, Fall Color Tours, Wine Tasting tours, Casinos, Ski at Crystal Mountain and more. About Denise

We bought our 53 acres in 1978. We were part of the 'Back to the Land' movement of the 70's. We lived in our tepee for a summer while we built our cabin, sawmill and many other buildings. Later our we ran our lumber production business, raised three kids and built our current house; also on the property. Bill hunts, fishes and rides is motorcycle. I garden, hike, camp, backpack, kayak, create multiple types of art and love being outdoors.

Denise purchased this cabin in 1978

Why Denise chose Northern Michigan

Quiet, beautiful, expansive woodland just out your doorstep. The upper Platte River is a short walk, or ride, down the hill. A short, beautiful drive to Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Shoreline.

What makes this cabin unique

Sunny Ridge Cabin is located in Inland Township in Benzie County in N.W. lower Michigan. It is situated on 53 private acres of wooded property. The Perre Marquette State Forest borders the south and west edge of the acreage. Hiking, X-Country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, snowmobiling are right out the door. The upper Platte River is a top notch trout fishing; river access is a short walk or drive down the hill. The Michigan Shore to Shore hiking/horse back riding trail is one mile north on a beautiful country road. No need to drive to get there, you are there!

A steep stair case to the loft and wood stove may make this cabin unsuitable for small children.

Lovely Rural Cabin and Property

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this cabin in Fall of 2014 and absolutely adored it. It gorgeous inside and easily accommodated my wife and I and 2 small children. It's tucked away far back from the road, but still close enough to some really nice parks and Interlochen activities. Can't say enough nice things about the cabin (and the renter). Highly recommend!

Beautiful gem of a cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week and were so sad when we had to leave. The cabin was spotless and we had everything we needed. Our favorite place was to sit by the living room window and watch the hummingbirds every morning while having coffee! The windows were so clean, I was able to take great pictures of the hummingbirds while they were feeding. The kitchen had everything necessary to cook our own meals (which we didn't do too much of, as the restaurants close by are outstanding...) We played hours of board games at the kitchen table and when we went out for the day, it was a pleasure to see the light on in the cabin to welcome us "home" to a very comfy bed. The cabin is a true gem!

quiet, perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our stay in the little red house. We were able to cook many of our meals here, but we were close enough to Traverse City to have a few treats out. The wood burner was a delight for my husband, and I found the surrounding trees and birds very satisfying. The cleanliness was outstanding- the word 'rustic' does not apply! We didn't meet our hosts, but they were available if needed. We cannot think of a better way to spend our week than snuggled up in "our little cabin."

Perfect Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at this adorable cabin for my Mother's Day gift. My husband and I have a five year old and a 6 month old. From the start, Denise was very accommodating and helpful with questions, payment arrangements, etc. From the moment we walked in the cabin it smelled wonderful! It smelled very clean and we also could smell Cedar from the wood used inside. Our first day there was rainy, so the wood burning stove was a huge comfort and our son loved the board games, trucks, and other toys that Denise provided during our stay. We also got to explore the massive woods and found three lovely morel mushrooms! A huge plus! Not only was the cabin comfortable, clean, and cozy, but we love the extra special touches such as: antique furniture, well stocked kitchen, natural dish and hand soap, and flowers that were in a vase on the kitchen table when we walked in. That is just to name a few! It was nice to get away in such a gorgeous area without all the technology that seems to get in the way of good family fun these days! :) We will surely recommend to others!

Perfect vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful this place is! Denise & Bill are wonderful hosts; they have thought of absolutely everything (down to pens, paper, and spices). The cabin is beautiful, charming, inviting, and SPOTLESS. Every single detail exceeded our expectations. The property is wonderful - we walked the dog on the trails every day and had s'mores every night. We cooked w/ the herbs out of the herb garden and the fresh tomatoes. The location is even convenient! We enjoyed our honeymoon even more than we knew was possible and we are already planning our first anniversary at the "Little Cabin"! Thanks Denise and Bill!!
