Aloha & Welcome to our Ohana :) Mindy has lived on Kauai for 30 years - Meeting Hubby David shortly after Hurricane Iniki (he came over to help rebuild from NC *and to Surf!). The two young 20 year olds fell in love, married barefoot on the beach in Poipu & had (3) children Noelani (age 21) just finished her 2nd year of college to be a teacher, Ben (age 15) loves video games & making movies, Cayden-Henri (age 9) like his dad loves to surf & eat chocolate ice-cream! Mindy now owns her own Physical Therapy Clinic & David is a computer programmer at Kauai's Pacific Missile Range.
Mindy Murray purchased this studio in 2007
Kalaheo is a beautiful, rural, quiet, cooler area on Kauai. You will find a lot of runners, bikers, & walkers in this small, one stop light town.
Beautiful, New, Oceanview Community, with stunning views throughout .
Quiet, beautiful, scenic walks of ocean and valley views.
Your apt is nice and comfortable, clean and quiet. We really enjoyed our stay! We will be back!
We stayed here three nights so we could explore the southern part of the island. It was a good location not far from south shore beaches, the canyon and other small towns. The studio had pretty much everything we needed. We had beach chairs, snorkeling gear, beach towels, cooler and an umbrella. It's a somewhat crowded space, but still comfortable. We thought the bed was very comfortable! If you're planning on doing a lot of cooking, there's not much counter space. It would've been nice to have been able to use the private lanai space (it looked so cozy) when we were there, but it was raining pretty much off/on the entire three days. It could be a little cleaner, but overall it was a comfortable stay.
Having experienced many rentals on different islands I found this one overrated and overpriced. The cleaning left a bit to be desired, for example the shower curtain and the hot plate were plain yucky ... I did not even use the latter. The beach chairs and beach mats, as advertised, were in shabby shape, the umbrella offered an embarrassing moment when I discovered, on the beach, that it was broken. The so called beach towels are just old bath towels, one of them bleach stained! It is noisy in the evening, every evening, kids noise, dogs barking, banging (?) ... the next door neighbor has a very bright porch light that made it difficult for me to go to sleep. I would not return there. I give it one star because the bed is good. I hope this owner makes some improvements.
We arrived January 5th and we are sadly leaving in 2 days. Having spent lots of time on Kauai in my life, this was a great way to enjoy the island for an extended amount of time. I always say, if you want to go lay on a beach and hang out at a hotel, go to the Caribbean or Mexico, Hawaii is for adventuring & exploring. Mindy's studio gave us the perfect home base, we had a mini fridge / freezer, microwave, small cooking unit, pots pans, dishes, dinnerware etc.... So we were able to save money making breakfast at home and packing lunches for the road. The unit itself is beautiful & has a private lanai area to enoy our morning coffee & tea. An unexpected bonus was the awesome community pool / hot tub with stunning ocean views. That brings me to our next point, the neighborhood is set on a hill with gorgeous ocean views as you pull onto the street you can see Poipu down below in the distance.
Location: You are about 10 minutes to Port Allen and Salt Pond Park & likewise about 10 minutes to Koloa town. 30 minutes to the canyon, 40 minutes to Polihale State Park. 30 minutes to Lihue, 40 to Kapa'a and an hour+ to Princeville. So if you are North Shore people, then keep that in mind, but driving an hour in Kauai doesn't bother us at all, we went up to the North shore at least 10 - 12 times (Get an early start and spend the day up there). The bonus is, the weather is usually much better in Poipu, so when the rest of the island is rainy, we would just mellow out, take a 10 minute drive to Poipu and enjoy the beach.
The comments about noise upstairs, well yes, that is true, but Mindy and her family are very good about their volume in the mornings and at night, so frankly if you are hanging around in the middle of the day and there is some noise upstairs my question for you would be, why are you hanging around the house mid day? you're in Hawaii! Additionally there is a ceiling fan and they provided another fan for white noise to minimize help block out noise. Mindy, Dave and their children are all really cool and accomodating people. I honestly, don't think I've ever stayed with friendlier hosts.
When we come back to Kauai, we will absolutely be staying here again, this place is a real gem and the neighborhood is filled with friendly people, you are in a very safe location.
All in all, my only hesitance in writing a review this good is, I hope it is available the next time we come to Kauai! THANKS MINDY & DAVE!
We enjoyed staying in Kaleheo, it was a nice distance between the east and west sides of the island. The studio was cozy for two people with wifi, beach stuff, and well equipped kitchenette. It was great to be able to eat in and save some money on pricey restaurants. Nice pool and hot tub access. Was great to have designated parking for the rental car. There is a family living upstairs, with kids and dogs, and there will be some ceiling sounds above you. Mindy was a friendly host and very good at getting back to us with any questions we had. We liked having this as our homebase for exploring the island. Nice place for a couple, especially on a budget. 🌈
We loved our stay. The studio was cute, clean, comfortable and convient. We liked the quiet neighborhood, lovely outdoor seating area and ocean breeze.
