Guestbook comments from the manager

Group of 10 fishermen - had great time and loved your house ! The lake was beautiful with 18" of ice. While the weather was unseasonably warm - at nearly 60 degrees, we fished all day and caught pike, crappie and blue gill. One of the nights we ate a wonderful prime rib dinner and were surprised to find (and touched) , what a nice gesture ! ) three bottles of wine which we found was the perfect compliment to dinner :~) thank you for sharing your house with us, we would recommend anybody stay here, and we hope to return some day. Thanks again.

Very nice.

  • 5 of 5

The house was just as described and fit our needs very well. The only problem we had was locating the Closing House instructions. They were not in the notebook and could not be found anywhere else in the house or in the paperwork sent to us ahead of our arrival.

Outstanding Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Our girlfriends getaway was a success!!! We stayed two nights at this beautiful home. It is in a scenic location... peaceful and gorgeous view of the lake. Our first evening we had dinner at Iva's chicken dinners in Sterling which was enjoyed by all. The next day we had breakfast at the Pepper Mill in Gladwin. Then on to excellent spa treatments at the Oasis in Gladwin. We checked out the area and found an apple farm then played games back at the house. In the evening, we went to the Hearth restaurant near the rental home. It was fabulous and all of us enjoyed the meal. The final morning we went back to the Pepper Mill because the food was so delicious. Our group of ladies had the best time together... an extension of our 50th high school reunion. The house was stocked with everything we needed and well-maintained. We would highly recommend a stay at the Lakeside Getaway.

nice place--serene setting, spacey and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

We loved this place. Three siblings, their spouses and their children and grandma all shared the space and made it work.13 total folks. It was what it said it was. The Sugar Springs resort is beautiful and the people are nice. We used t

he lake, the beach, tennis courts, the deck, lawn chairs and every room of the house, etc. And made road trips to Tawas State Park and Wixom Lake.

My only quibble is that the owners/managers could be a little less tight on some things. Other VRBO properties I've rented don't ration TP and dish soap. We had to go out and buy that stuff plus dishwasher detergent. The other VRBOs either provided it, or left the stuff that other guests bought in the property. You know,.matches, condiments, dishwasher soap, coffee, etc. Plus, we brought a stand-up paddleboard with us, with the impression that life preservers would be available with the canoe on the property. Well they're not available and I was surprised by that. It's just more safe to provide these items

Owner's Response: We love to hear that our guests have enjoyed their stay and specifically what they enjoyed about our home and property ... the amenities, Sugar Springs and the Gladwin area. We greatly appreciate the compliments and the time taken to post their comments. We supply "Starter Supplies" for each arriving guest ( toilet paper and hand soap for each bath, paper towel, dish soap and a couple of dishwasher tablets, coffee service: coffee, creamer, sugar, tea bags and filters for each kitchen. We do this because we know many of our guests may be flying in or simply arriving late at night and can not bring what they need and we provide enough to get guests through until they can go to the grocery store to buy what they need. We do not and will not leave open food containers, condiments; etc. that previous guests have left as most people would not want to use open food items left by previous guests, Additionally, we supply bed, bath and kitchen linens, plenty or pillows and extra blankets, etc. Our kitchen is fully stocked. We provide life jackets for watercraft that we have available for guests. We do not provide life jackets for guests that may bring their own watercraft. We would think if you are bringing a watercraft of any type with you that you would also bring your own life jackets. Also, prior to arrival, we email guests with a list of items and amenities that are provided at each of our homes and also a suggested packing list.

Great location, great for families

  • 4 of 5

The house has a lot of space for groups and families. The association beach is just a short walk away and also has a nice playscape for the kids (right in the sand). We rented the pontoon boat which added a lot of fun to our stay. The fishing was great, we caught quite a few pike and large mouth bass. The large deck with retractable awning made hanging out on the deck very enjoyable.

Spacious, Water front view, AC

  • 3 of 5

The property was spacious and roomy. The AC was a excellent feature. The 2 refrigerators were an added bonus. The views were spectacular. The separate living spaces on each level were nice.

Negatives for us were no WI-FI, public beach when we were used to a private one and squeaky floors.

Also for your information, we never did find the beaters for the mixer in the kitchen.

Owner's Response: We are always glad to hear that our guests have enjoyed their stay. :) We do realize that many of our guests would like to have wi-fi available but this area does not have good wi-fi it is not feasible. As stated in our Welcome Book in the house, there is free wi-fi available in the POA parking lot (3 blocks from the property).... or for those that want to be able to do some work or more than just download email, the Chalet at the Sugar Springs Campground has tables and electrical outlets (etc). We are sorry to hear you were expecting a private beach. We do explain on the website and when discussing with inquiries that while the beach is not a private beach, belonging only to the property (Lakeside GetAway)... Sugar Springs is a private recreational community. The beach is semi-private...only Sugar Springs residents and guests can use the beach. Typically, the beach is pretty empty, however being July 4th, it was indeed quite busy. The only other time of year this beach has so much activity is Labor Day weekend and it gets quite busy then, as well. Should you stay with us in the future we would like to suggest you reserve for any time of the summer except these two holiday weekends.

Fantastic Cottage in the Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

If I were going to design the perfect place for an "Up North" vacation, it would be this cottage. It is well laid out and well maintained with everything you need to eat, sleep and have fun in the sun. The huge deck off the living area is the perfect place to soak up the sun, have a meal, or just take in the great view of the lake and public beach. You can walk to the beach area, and the vehicle entrance to the boat launch is right next to the property!
