Great location, lots of space, fully equipped

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was perfect. Had everything we needed and plenty of space. Dog & family friendly. Large yard right across from the river. A very scenic trip up to snowshoe! We will be back to stay again soon. Keep the wood stove burning a day as it gets a little cold!

Great place to stay, really off of the beaten path. Great to unplug for a few days. The cabin is really set up well, everything you need is there.

Disappointed!

  • 1 of 5

There are positives and negatives about our experience;

Negatives;

-I texted Becky two days prior to our stay regarding the grocery store (I wanted to see how big the grocery store in Webster Springs was to see if I can do my shopping there). Becky did not bother to text back.

-The cabin is at a very remote location. The road gets very bad and narrow the last 6-8 miles.

-We drove from Pittsburgh and we were at the cabin around 7 PM. Becky had sent us a document regarding the place including the code for the door lock. When we arrived I entered the number several times in different ways without any luck. We could not enter the cabin and it was getting dark.

-We decided to drove back to get back to a cell phone reception area in order to call Becky. On our way we found some local people and asked if we can use their land line to call Becky. I called Becky's cell phone, she did not pick up her phone. Then I called the other number on the welcome letter which was Wendy's. Wendy was able to get a hold of Becky and got us the correct code. Apparently the code had changed and Becky gave us the wrong code. Wendy called back the house phone number that I had called from to give me the new code. Becky did not even bother to apologize in an email, text, or phone call.

-The water in the cabin has a very strong sulfur smell. I called Becky the next morning and she answered her phone for the first time. She told us that the smell would go away if we let the water running for a while or if we took showers. The smell was there even the day we left the cabin which was the 4th day.

-The place needs deep cleaning. We have two little kids who dropped their toys under the couch or cushions. I pulled the couch/cushions to get the toys and saw that there was a thick layer of dirt under the couch, and under the cushions.

-Thee is a little cemetery very close to the cabin visible from the front porch. It did not bother me, but my wife was a little scared.

Positives;

-It is a beautiful cabin with plenty of space.

-The nature is beautiful with good fishing.

-They have done a good job with little bugs in order to keep them out with the plugins in the outlets.

-There is plenty of sleeping place.

-There is cable TV

As a side note:

Only Google Maps got us close to the place. iPhone maps and our GPS were both off by 7-8 miles.

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy just relaxing at the cabin, and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Plus fishing the Elk River that flows near the cabin.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This cabin was the perfect mountain getaway! It was beautifully decorated, larger than we expected, and had that perfect country charm feeling. Of course the modern conveniences were well appreciated too like the hot tub, washer and dryer, and more than 1 bathroom! I hope to go back again.
