Here in the Northeast Kingdom, we're excited to promote geotourism - you can view historic structures and traditional New England architecture, birdwalk through wetlands, visit old cemeteries, sample cuisine from local artisans, visit sustainable farms and dairies and sugarhouses. Let us help assist you in this discovery!

The Owner purchased this house in 2000
We have never been this happy with a house we have rented before.(Not only is it a beautiful house, but it is so well stocked and we especially appreciate how clean it is.)
Thank you for helping make this a very special visit for us.
This is just a very special and cozy home to stay at. My wife and I drove up from Long Island to spend three nights at the house and it was just awesome. It was meticulously clean, tastefully furnished and extremely comfortable. We appreciated having a very functional kitchen, which allowed us to stay home and eat after a long day exploring the surrounding area. On another day, it was a 25 minute drive to Jay Peak for a day of skiing and eating at local restaurants. The owners, Jeanne and John, live in a beautiful home across the street and stopped over once to say hi and to offer some area specific advice and suggestions and they are great. The surrounding area is just wide open, bucolic and so beautiful. We spent a lot of time just driving around and appreciating the sights in this magnificent part of the country. The diner just up the road was a real treat as well. This is a great little getaway and worth the drive to the "north country."
My husband and I have stayed here probably a half-dozen times, during just about every season of the year. Every time, we are absolutely delighted. The house is charming in its structure and decor, clean and tidy, very well-stocked (often with fresh-baked goods waiting on the kitchen table for us), and located close to numerous options for outdoorsy things to do. The beds are wonderfully comfortable. The owners are among the most congenial we've ever had the pleasure of renting from. Highly highly recommend.
The detailed description for this getaway cottage was exactly how the owners described, and better than we expected. The property was in A-1 condition, everything was available and clean. The owners, John and Jean not only greeted us with a warm welcome but with recommendations for so much to do in the area. They made us feel so much at home. They presented with such hospitality with a tour of their property of breathtaking waterfalls in their lovely backyard, a beautiful garden of flowers, and many vegetables. We even found vegetables on our table and blackberries in a basket on the steps, to name just a few of the beautiful touches they added to our stay to make it so wonderful each day. There is so much to do, including the nearby Alpaca farm, don't leave the area without visiting these beautiful animals. Also, when you go into town, there is so much to explore, and only a short drive to Canada. We all had a blast. This is a wonderful historic cottage in a great location that has all the amenities and nearby attractions, including great restaurants. We couldn't ask for more. It was a fantastic getaway. Highly recommend this cottage to family, friends, and colleagues. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway or vacation in the area this is the one for you. Our stay brought much peace and happiness, we loved it! We will be back for sure! A'Vant Family
Lovely...everything including the setting, the house, the hosts, the area, all lovely. I spent a couple quiet days with my sister away from kids, grandkids, jobs, and stresses and it was perfect. Beautiful gardens, the Black River in the back yard, a beautifully restored antique home. Just lovely...
My husband and I stayed a week recently and wished we could have stayed longer! Millrace House, nestled along the Black River, is just adorable and the owners very accommodating. I am pretty sure they ordered the picture-perfect weather for us too! We grilled several nights just so we could be at the house, but we did have breakfast at Martha's Diner right around the corner one morning. There are two double beds upstairs - the original stairs! - and one twin downstairs, with two full bathrooms. The kitchen had everything we needed and there's even a washer and dryer. I loved all the old look that was really new, and all the unique details. Lots of storage and the place felt very large. It was clearly our favorite rental from HOMEWAY thus far. Jean told us about a walking loop, so each morning we walked 2.5 hilly miles through a covered bridge and along some picturesque back roads. We love that there is less people and life there seems unhurried - the perfect vacation. The house is centrally located to all activities - and there is much to do in the Northeast Kingdom in the Fall - we took the Sunday International Brunch Cruise on Lake Memphremagog, only minutes away in Newport, kayaked the Clyde River, hiked Mt. Pisgah, saw 17 covered bridges, took an ATV tour in Danville, saw a recent movie for $4/person in St. Johnsbury, and a parade and craft fair in East Burke. We did much traveling by car but the scenery is so pretty and there is no traffic so it is a pleasure. On the way home we stopped at the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier for lunch - amazing! And don't forget to try a maple cremee!
We were two senior couples who rented Millrace House for a four day stay in August and we were all delighted with the place; it was a perfect retreat for our tour of the Northeast Kingdom. We arrived and were instantly charmed. It seemed a bit quirky at first, but the longer we stayed the more we appreciated the serene beauty and the true comfort of this fully updated home. Every need was anticipated and the owners were extremely welcoming and helpful. I have no problem giving the Millrace House an enthusiastic recommendation. The gardens also deserve mention; Jeanne and John have done an amazing job and I was enchanted by the gardens, the stream, the waterfall, the mill ruins and of course the expanse of blooms throughout. I will definitely stay here again when next in the area.
