Things to do: Located just a few minutes from the Lake Shastina Golf resort, play golf at the Robert Trent Jones Jr. 18 hole championship course or the 9 hole Scottish links course. Welcome!: Come and enjoy the many activities available to you in Lake Shastina!
We built this home in 1987 because we loved the peaceful outdoors feeling in Lake Shastina. Our home has a view of Mt. Shasta, which dominates the landscape, as well as tranquil Lake Shastina, Black Butte, and The Eddys. We've been vacationing here every year since the house was built. We were married here too, as was our son.
Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time in the Mt. Shasta region. Hiked Mt. Shasta, McCloud Waterfalls and Castle Crags. Really enjoyed sitting outside on your deck to look at the sunset and the moon, with the view of Mt. Shasta and Lake Shastina.
If we come back to the Mt. Shasta region, we will contact you again.
We really enjoyed our stay at this property! As other reviews have said, there is no way to begin to describe how beautiful the view is!!!! We could not believe it, and you won't either. We booked here in Lake Shastina for a family wedding in a town nearby. It's only about a 10 minute drive into Weed, but about 30 minutes to either Yreka or Mt. Shasta. It's a pretty trip in any direction. While here we explored the Castle Crags State Park as well as Castle Lake, Lake Siskiyou, Burney Falls, and even drove up Mt. Shasta. The entire area is very pretty and the neighborhood is totally quiet. The house itself is well appointed with all the appliances you would expect. The cooling system works very well (which is great because it was high 80's to high 90's all week) and there are fans in every room. Beds and sofas are comfortable and Peggy and Ed are friendly and responsive. Next wedding is in Denver, 2017. I sure wish they had a house like this there too!
Often when we book a rental, the photos we have seen before arrival reveal a grand view, but we may be disappointed when reality upon arrival does not equal our expectations. Definitely, this is not the case with your extraordinary Lake Shastina home. The reality is that pictures cannot capture the sweeping views from the generous deck which is perfectly designed to absorb this world-class view. Yes, you see Mount Shasta boldly appearing close enough to touch, and Lake Shastina beautifully set in rolling hills, but add the colors of sunrise, or the shades of sunset, or the glow of a full moon as we were privileged to witness; you have entered a uniquely inspiring world.
Inside the house, every window is strategically placed to enhance this view. The house is tastefully decorated and comfortably equipped with everything you may need! As a couple, we thrived in the luxury of the space, but we observed that the layout of the rooms make this an ideal place for families and friends to enjoy.
The location is central to many do-not miss attractions that are close enough for a day trip. We forced ourselves out from the fantastic views to experience the local area. Lake Siskiyou is an easy 30 minute drive south. From Mt. Shasta City, the drive up scenic Everitt Memorial Highway all the way to the Old Ski Bowl trail (not the Ski Park) provides opportunity to get as close to Mount Shasta as you may get without a climbing permit: about 8,000 feet, with Mount Shasta at 14,179 just a few volcanic stone’s throw away.
Lake McCloud is an hour drive, but the beauty of the snow fed turquoise waters of the remote reservoir are best enjoyed by boat. We were able to catch our limit of brown trout fishing the bank near the dam along Star City Creek, but the shoreline is steep!
The Lava Beds National Monument is one hour and 40 minutes north on 97, the Volcanic Legacy Byway to the north entrance of the Park. This unusual place offers vista views of miles of lava as if it has recently cooled. But really cool about this park is the ice caves! There is a cave for everyone’s ability to explore here. We were amazed as we descended from August's 97 degree heat down the stairs just a few feet into 55 degree air! Also the little known history of the brave Modoc people comes back to life here.
The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is only 1 hour and 10 minutes; next year we hope to skip Ashland’s crowds and come back! Thank you, Peggy and Ed, for sharing your special home!
Just came home from a 4 night stay. The pictures posted of this house do not do it justice! The view from the deck is inspiring with full unobstructed views of Mt Shasta, Black Butte, and Lake Shastina. The house was comfortable and nice and ideal for my wife, daughter, and I. We visit Mt Shasta once a year, and we will definitely go back to this home again. Thanks Peggy and Ed for being such great hosts.
The views of the mountain and lake were spectacular!!! For this reason alone, we would recommend it. The owners were extremely open and receptive. Fantastic people to work with! The only thing to take note of is Weed is a half an hour past the town of Mt. Shasta. Also 1 1/2 hours away from the Redding Airport.
This Lake Shastina house is a true gem! It is close to many outdoor activities, but also tucked away nicely for some peaceful tranquility. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. I will definitely be back again!
This was the second time my wife and I stayed at the property. This time we brought along our daughter, son-in-law and grandson. They were as excited and impressed by the accommodations and view from the deck as we were the first time. The home is well furnished, has plenty of sleeping combinations and is one of my favorite home away units. There is lots to see in the area but I seem to always want to get back and enjoy the deck.
