About Marilyn Burgess and Ed Lanford
We are both auctioneers and work long hours, so when we travel, we like to do it right. We seek out upscale, interesting hotels, lodges and vacation rentals. We love fresh air, beautiful gardens, and all varieties of nature, climates and cultures and try to discover new, unique and soulful experiences in exciting places. We love good food and are experimenting cooks. We dine in the finest restaurants in each destination and particularly enjoy discovering off-the-beaten-path, hidden, local and out-of-the-way gems. We hate fast food. We are daily walkers and seek out romantic sunsets wherever we are. Marilyn loves the outdoors and is an avid reader. Ed skis, kayaks, scuba dives, and likes to fish although all fish are safe in his presence. We both like southwestern and Native American art, museums and galleries of all types.

Why Marilyn Burgess and Ed Lanford chose Historic Eastside
When we decided to buy a second vacation home, we considered several of our favorite travel destinations, places to which we seemed to return repeatedly. For exploration, outdoor activities and relaxation, we love the central Oregon coast, Squaw Valley and North Lake Tahoe, Ruidoso and, of course, Santa Fe/Taos. We evaluated each location for which place offered the most romantic, magic, spiritual qualities and in which location would we be happiest spending time long term. What area offered the most varied, yet agreeable climate year around? Where could we experience the greatest intellectual and recreational stimulation? All of a sudden the answer became obvious: Santa Fe. Where else in the U.S. could one find a settlement with 400 years of history blending three distinct cultures, the Native American, the Spanish Colonial and the northern European? What other place has the combined beauty of the arid northern New Mexican desert, the majesty of the Sangre de Christo, Jemez and Ortiz mountains and the lush, fertile ribbon of the Rio Grande? Where else provides the broad range of archeological sites and cultural traditions to enjoy and explore? In what other resort area can a person find any wider array of educational experiences, arts and entertainment such as Museum Hill, the Santa Fe Opera, the Lensic Performing Arts Center, the new Railyard District and a wide variety of performance venues including theatres, playhouses, and an amphitheatre. How can one compare the scope and variety of restaurants, galleries and shops of Santa Fe to any other place? What other city can match the combination of cultural choices and outdoor recreational opportunities offered by the Santa Fe area: sightseeing, snow skiing, kayaking and rafting, mountain biking, water skiing, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, archeological exploration, hot air ballooning and so on? What other city has a wonderful, 100 year-old neighborhood gourmet market and two Whole Foods Markets? NONE!
What makes this House unique
We bought the very best two bedroom vacation rental on the market, and we looked at many. The location is ideal, and the combination of features offered by this casita makes it unique to the area. It is a restored original “Pueblo Revival' or 'Santa Fe Style' adobe in the Eastside Historic District, the Camino del Monte Sol Historic District and the Garcia Historic District. It is within easy walking distance of the most important destinations along Canyon Road and the downtown plaza area. We found this casita to be immaculate, in excellent condition, beautifully furnished, very well maintained and ever so romantic. We fell in love with the gardens at first sight. Even before we went in the house, we knew this was the perfect place for us. Once inside, we found the cutest casita we had yet seen, but the private outdoor spaces are what we love most. The garden areas are exceptionally generous for the Historic District and offer four distinct areas for entertaining friends and family or for a romantic evening for two. Adobe walls and coyote fences completely enclose the casita and three distinct gardens for complete privacy. The gardens are perfect for dining and cocktails al fresco or for enjoying the sounds of a summer night. The lounge area is shaded by a bearing plum tree and a large Russian olive tree. This garden has a cocktail table with seating for four plus two Zero Gravity lounge chairs and a chimenea. There is a lovely flagstone patio shaded by a new ramada (pergola) with dining for six. Sit under the front portal and enjoy the smell of a summer rain or the whisper of a snowfall. A fourth garden shaded by giant apple and apricot trees lies along the Aspen-lined drive bordering the casita’s outer wall. In season, savor fruit from the casita’s apple, apricot, peach and plum trees. Outdoor sculptures abound throughout the gardens. We continue to add art and additional plantings to enhance the outdoor enjoyment of our guests and ourselves.

Great house for cozying up with friends
We loved the house and the gardens. Sadly our friends didn't make it with us so we ended up having a romantic get-away! The house is lovely, the gardens were wonderful! I loved watching the different birds. The neighbour's dogs were somewhat noisy and the hike into the centre of Santa Fe centre is fine - if it's not too hot. Lovely stroll to Canyon Road galleries though. Thanks!
Santa Fe Wonderland
Property is simply gorgeous from the beautiful decorated casita to the immaculate garden. Everywhere you look Santa Fe is represented with beautiful artwork throughout the property. Perfect location, abundant amenities and very important, comfortable beds. Had a wonderful time catching up with my sister who lives in another state and given the opportunity we will definitely stay again. JUST MARVELOUS!
Lisa, thank you for the glowing review of Casa Estrella. We especially appreciated your email about our having the "best beds." We try. We feel that great beds are critical to a vacation. Number one, you come because you need a vacation and rest. Number two, a great night's sleep is critical to recharging your batteries. Number three, there are so many sights to see, galleries to explore, museums to visit, walks and hikes to take and so many great restaurants to enjoy that one needs a soft place to fall at the end of the day or at the beginning of a nice nap.
We do hope you and your sis can return. If your party grows, please beware that we have a larger 4 BR 4 Bath VRBO just a five minute walk up Garcia from Casa Estrella. We do rent both at the same time for parties up to twelve. And, yes, it is as cool as Estrella.

Perfect home away from home in Santa Fe!
Casa Estrella is a beautiful home conveniently located to all of Santa Fe’s must do activities and restaurants. This was our second time here and will always be our first choice when we come to the area. Allow time to relax out in the beautiful garden or in the amazing art appointed living areas. The house was stocked with everything we needed! Thanks Ed and Marilyn for allowing us to use your home and for the restaurant advice. Hoping to return soon!
Casa Estrella brings vacation accommodations to a new level
We loved our time in Santa Fe, and our accommodation at Casa Estrella was especially enjoyable. The casa provided an artful, comfortable, charming environment -- both indoors and out -- with everything one could possible need from music for reading to nice kitchen and dining equipment. And champagne! Every spot in the casa was beautiful or interesting or cozy --or all three at the same time. Much thought went into creating this lovely space. Thank you! We had such a nice time. Kris
casa estrella, 4/19
We had a wonderful time at the Casa. Exquisite art work, indoors and out, delightful beds and cozy feel. Kitchen well equipped, even with spices and herbs for cooking. The owners delightful and responsive. We were able to easily walk to Canyon Road galleries, the plaza and restaurants. We hope to return!
Dear Randy and Margo, thank you for the great review! We are glad you enjoyed Casa Estrella as much as we wanted you to. You know we are always open to suggestions about how we can improve the experience. We do hope you get to return soon. If your schedules allow, try to come in a different season to see how Santa Fe changes. Gorgeous flowers and trees bloom June through September. In late September and October the aspens turn a bright golden, and November through March bring Thanksgiving, the holiday season and skiing/snowboarding. Santa Fe is always terrific!
If your party grows, we have a beautiful larger 4 bedroom 4 bath contemporary adobe house as five minute walk up Garcia. It has equally "exquisite" art indoors and out and is even better equipped than Estrella. It has a great open floor plan, a wraparound balcony and separate upper and lower patios. The VRBO number is 844068. The two can be rented together to accommodate twelve adults as VRBO number 860011. No matter which house you choose, there will always be fresh flowers and champagne upon arrival plus any help we may be to make your stay truly memorable. We hope sometime we can be in Santa Fe at the same time as you and get together for wine and cheese or a Margarita and chile relleno. Following the old Mexican expression, "Mi casa es su casa." My house is your house. You are welcome anytime.
Adios and warmest regards,
Marilyn and Ed
Perfect Santa Fe Casita
We love each and every stay—and every season—at Casa Estrella! The casita’s location could not be more perfect. The homeowners are incredibly generous with welcome amenities. The garden surrounding two sides of the home is a private getaway with chiminea and propane fire pit that made our winter visit fun. (And, it’s always beautiful other seasons wth art and blooming landscape.) The kitchen is well stocked, the fireplace (with all the wood you could possibly burn) is a joy for coffee or cocktail gatherings. Casa Estrella is the perfect Santa Fe getaway!
Dear Cyndi and Randy,
Thank you for the glowing review, and thanks for leaving us a few of your chocolates. We had never had those before even though we leave them for returning guests. Wow, what a treat. We will have to leave us some when we return. We are sorry to have missed meeting you this trip. Maybe next time.
You are now tied for the lead in the number of stays in our homes and are the only guests who have stayed in both homes individually. If your party grows over eight, please remember we do rent both houses together they are so close to one another.
We hope you had a safe trip home. We were caught in the blizzard that hit Albuquerque going to the airport and lost momentary control on the icy highway. Even though we were driving only about 40-45 when the speed limit is 75, I thought we were going into the median. My 4WD vehicle did a scary fishtail., but I got it back under control without running into anything or anyone. Mostly luck.
We hope we are in SF the next time you come to visit. There will always be new restaurants and galleries to try and places to explore and maybe we can do some together.
Thanks for being so gracious and appreciative.
Marilyn and Ed
