Kingfisher Cove - A Rustic and Secluded Getaway

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Our rustic and secluded cabin provides a perfect escape for a romantic couple or a small family. Kingfisher Cove is located on 22 acres of peaceful woodlands on the warm (private side). The privacy of our wooded retreat provides a relaxing and serene setting.

Hi-Speed Internet in house and at dock.

The lake and dock are a gently sloping walk from the house and offer a level waterfront on a quiet, peaceful cove. There is a large sun deck with shade pergola with swinging chairs perfect for napping away the day while the kids play in the large sandpit. We have several kayaks for your use. You can take them out and explore the surrounding coves.

In the evening, gaze at the stars in the large wildlife meadow and roast marshmallows in the fire pit. Our home has plenty of books, movies and games for children and adults to enjoy. The on-site boat ramp makes it convenient to launch your boat. The boathouse can be used for a fishing boat.

Enjoy a nice winter or summer hike in the surrounding woods or hike up the creek and visit the beaver dams.

Our home can accommodate up to 8 people - we would recommend it to a family with kids or a pair of couples.

About The Owner

This property was love at first sight for us. It was a rustic cabin set in the middle of 22 acres of privacy. We often go there for long weekends and rarely leave the property except maybe to get a bag of chips or some ice cream. We sit at the dock and watch the birds and chat with the occasional fisherman. There is a pair of Kingfishers that have been there as long as we can remember. They always remind us that they were there first. We built an addition on the house several years after we purchased it to add more sleeping space and another bathroom. Our children and their friends go with us in the summer and the winter. There is always somewhere that needs to be explored. The silence and solitude is our favorite thing. The dock is HUGE and makes a great sunning and fishing platform.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2003

Why The Owner chose Bumpass

We visited Lake Anna 17 years ago when my brother rented a house on the warm side. The kids can play in the water all day long and not come out shivering like they would at most other lakes or beaches. We like the fact that it is an easy drive from the DC metro area and Richmond. The warm side is less crowded, especially where our house is located. There are several restaurants within a short driving distance. You can easily fill several days visiting the many Civil War sites in the surrounding counties.

What makes this cabin unique

Privacy as there are no nearby neighbors. Great birdwatching and stargazing. We love to hear owls calling at night. There is no 'light pollution' . The fire pit is located between the dock and the house. There is a small creek that runs through the property and is always good for a fun hike. Another good hike is to go up the main creek that feeds the cove and visit all of the beaver dams. The swinging chairs under the sun-shaded pergola is one of the things guests enjoy the most. The kitchen is two years old and includes granite counter tops.

Amazing water access and privacy

  • 5 of 5

The dock area is amazing! We caught tons of fish, saw lots of wildlife including beavers, went kayaking and hiking in the woods and roasted marshmallows. Our 7 year old had a blast while we got to relax. The house is a bit rustic but it's spacious and the kitchen is upgraded. We can't wait to go again and bring some friends with us.

The dock is fantastic.

This is a rustic location and facility, but the dock was huge and and the hanging chairs were great. Caught lots of fish. The kitchen was well equipped. It is not a huge house, but the beds were comfortable and the home clean. You are surrounded by woods and nature. Lots of privacy. We would go again.

Simply Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

If you want private access to the water on kayaks or swimming, this is an amazing option. You can't see another house from the water or the rental! The deck is amazing, and the house was everything we needed. The kitchen seems recently renovated- there wasn't anything we didn't have available to us. We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Kingfisher Cove.

Completely private

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Kingfisher Cove in June of 2013 but the calendar didn't let me go back that far. The house is rustic but comfortable, we didn't spend all that much time in the house but it had everything we need. The deck is wonderful and that is where we were most of the day or out on the lake in the kayaks. If you are looking for privacy this is the place. It's on 20+ acres of land far from any other dwellings. During the week we saw no one and on the weekends an occasional jet ski would come down the cove but never close to the property. Great place for a romantic getaway.

A Rustic Retreat with Lots of Potential

  • 4 of 5

We booked Kingfisher Cove for a long weekend. We wanted something different from the beach - a little more seclusion - a little more peaceful. We expected a rustic cottage/cabin, and that's what Kingfisher is. Although we were a little surprised to find the walls to be plywood (a little more rustic than we anticipated), the accommodations and amenities were quite adequate, and the home was tidy and clean. The kitchen is quite small, making it difficult to have more than one person in the kitchen trying to prepare meals, but sufficiently equipped. Also, if you have children accustomed to taking a bath who may not easily adjust to taking a shower, note that this house only has showers. All in all, we enjoyed the home and it suited our needs well.

As far as the property, we we're slightly disappointed. The pictures are a bit deceiving. I would appear that the fire pit area is immediately adjacent to the house - off the back deck, perhaps. That is not the case. It's about 50 or 60 feet away (guesstimate), and the dock and boathouse is another couple hundred feet away from there. Also, the pictures show a nicely kept yard and area between the fire pit and dock. That was not the case during our stay. The yard immediately surrounding the house, and just up from the dock, were cut; however, everything else was overgrown. This was disappointing because we didn't feel comfortable trekking through the 22 acre property to explore, when there was poison oak and tall grass everywhere. The tall grass was no less than a foot and a half tall, and having seen a snake on the property (we weren't really surprised or troubled by this - we were in the woods afterall) we didn't want to go trampling around in tall grass where a snake could easily be hiding.

The dock itself was magnificent! HUGE! The swinging chairs that were provided were also lovely and made for great relaxation under the pergola. The sand pit and provided sand toys were a nice bonus - our 2 year old loved it! Unfortunately, once we discovered a snake nesting on the edge of the sand pit, we had to make it off limits. There were also three kayaks provided, but we never had a chance to use them. Our trip was plagued by rain, or the threat of rain/a storm, so we never took them out.

Although completely unrelated to the house, I still feels it's important to mention for those unfamiliar with Lake Anna, as we were prior to this trip - it's a gorgeous area, but there is nothing to do if there is inclement weather.
