Welcome to the Low Country and slightly off the beaten path antebellum Beaufort, South Carolina. You've seen it in movies like Prince of Tides, Forrest Gump, or the Big Chill. This area is steeped in history with Charleston 70 minutes to the North and Savannah, Georgia 45 minutes to the South. A gradual and continuing 'discovery', which started here in the 1970's, has given Beaufort some fine restaurants and night life, but the pace is more relaxed than on famous Hilton Head Island, 35 minutes away.
Parris Island, with its Marine recruit depot, is 10 minutes away. Our house is very popular with families in town for Parris Island graduations. We offer a refund if, for any reason, the recruit cannot graduate as planned.
Our house sits on a high bluff which allows a furnished basement with a 9 foot slate pool table. Its view through the sliding glass door is of the fully fenced backyard sloping down to the live oak guarded marsh. The upstairs single story house is light and cheerful due to an open floor plan, lots of glass, skylights and celestial windows. The Master bedroom (with huge Master Bath) and the Great Room (with a Buck wood burning stove) face the marsh and river with an expansive westerly sunset view.
The kitchen and eating area have the same view through the dining room with its walls of glass that make you feel you can reach out and touch the river. An 8 foot wide porch (with 3 ceiling fans) that runs the length of the house faces a landscaped front yard.
The dock (with water, lights and electricity) comes off one corner of the backyard and offers easy access to the river and pristine marsh. The backyard has hosted numerous oyster roasts and crab boils. Shrimp, fish, and crabs can be caught off the dock (permit free).
The large floating dock has 6 feet of water at dead low tide (and 12 or more at high tide). A boat towed to the area can be launched at a close-by landing and following a 10 minute trip, tied up at the dock. Open ocean is about 30 minutes away with numerous fishing reefs easily accessible, or travel by boat to Hilton Head or Savannah relatively quickly.
This house is in a quiet residential neighborhood. Ride bikes that are provided, or jog or walk around the tree shaded mile-long oval that runs the perimeter of this older subdivision. Sitting on the front porch or the dock is always a treat.
Great value golf is available to the public at several courses in the area. Bluffton and Hilton Head offer world class golf at higher prices. Downtown Beaufort is about 10 minutes away and the public ocean beach at Hunting Island State Park with lighthouse, fishing pier, camping and nature walks is 30 minutes beyond. We provide a State Park Pass for free of charge access.
Beds: 2 queen pillowtops, 2 double beds
We built this house in 1981 and raised our two children here. They have begun lives of their own and we have retired to Sedona, Arizona. Because we love Beaufort, we decided to keep the house and rent it short term. It is a wonderful area and we love to visit! You won't be disappointed!
Ginnie Moore purchased this house in 1981
There is no better view in the area. The river, the sunsets, and the quiet neighborhood are so special. We fell in love with this property the minute we first saw it many years ago.
Total privacy, beautiful view, fabulous sunsets, and not far from Parris Island for those of you coming for graduations. The pool table is an added benefit!
"Wow, that's the only word that came to mind when we arrived from PA. Thank you so much for opening this retreat to us... the stress released as soon as we opened the door to your lovely home. It was awesome to share it with family and friends to celebrate our Marine's graduation!!"
We had an amazing stay! There was a big storm that came through and the house was a perfect place to be in, we watched an amazing lighting show from the front porch, porch swing! It was such a treat to stay in this lovely home. We had several families staying here ( all with graduates from PI) and we all did our cooking and enjoyed the lovely living room to lounge in. Our son stayed up later but he just watched a movie in the basement and no one even knew he was awake! The dock is so lovely, it stretches out into the water with reeds all around, the perfect place to experience an amazing SC sunset! Nothing I can say negative about it. We had a few changes and the owners were so kind to us and were very flexible with us!
Wonderful memories were made. My son caught enough blue crab off the dock in an hour to provide appetizers for a group of six. We are used to Chesapeake blue crabs and these were equally as delicious! Short drive to Hunting Island where we enjoyed a great day on the beach. We did a lot in 96 hours. Boating, kayaking, fishing , beaching and crabbing. MCAS Beaufort is a great resource for outdoor recreation equipment for military or retirees. Thank you Moore's
The property was just wonderful! It was very clean, very well stocked, and very well maintained. My family had a great time staying here. We especially enjoyed the pool table and fishing off the dock out the back yard. We caught several fish and several stingrays, with the largest catch going to my nephew who caught a 20lb stingray that put up a good fight. We had no problems at all during our stay. The Wi-Fi, the outdoor grill, cable, and the hot tub were all great. I would definitely recommend this property and would love to stay here again.
Terrific place to stay in the Beaufort area. We traveled to Charleston, Savannah and Hilton Head very easily from this location. Lots of privacy and an amazing view of the South Carolina inlet. Home is very accommodating and stocked with all the necessities. We watched an incredible sunset with a storm coming in off the dock and relaxed on the deck and front porch. Easy communication with the owners. I would stay here again!
The house was an awesome home for us. We arrived at sunset and went straight to the pier before even going in the house. For the rest of our stay, we scheduled our days to be home to enjoy the incredible sunsets, and the teens caught and released crabs every night. We sat out on the front porch and rocked and enjoyed the flowers.
Your home is lovely and we felt at home. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. We grilled one night and the teens enjoyed the hot tub. We did not have time to do an inkling of what we wanted, and we hope to return.
Thank you for sharing your home and beautiful views with us.
