Tribby Cottage is located in the country town of Jefferson in Midcoast Maine which is 3 hours from Boston and 1 hour from Portland. It is both a private retreat and a place to enjoy the outdoors with your family and friends. It is the last cottage on the road and is surrounded by trees and fields. The cottage is nestled into a gentle hill that slopes down to the water's edge which about 100ft from the front door. At the shoreline you will find a small deck with stairs that lead to the small beach, dock and a canoe and kayak. Clary Lake is approximately 6-700 acres and 25 feet deep. It is a quiet lake with bass, perch and pickerel for enjoyable fishing.
Inside the cottage there is a large but cozy pine paneled living space with a wood stove, couch and seating area with a TV and DVD player, upholstered chairs by the picture window, and a dining area. The kitchen offers a stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot, large refrigerator, and all the pots, pans and utensils needed to cook a delicious meal. The tiled bathroom has a shower. There are three sleeping areas: the largest provides a queen bed, dresser and large closet, the second has a single bed and dresser, the third is a sleeping loft above the kitchen which is accessible by a built in ladder and has windows that overlook the lake. The loft has a queen sized futon, and is often the kid’s preference.
The front door to the cottage opens onto the deck which has a picnic table and Adirondack chairs and the charcoal grill is adjacent to the deck.
For local provisions there is: the Superette, a small grocery/gas store which also rents dvds, Sheepscot General, a general store and cafe which features organic, local food, and roadside farm stands. Also in the immediate area is Damariscotta Lake State Park, The Scoop ice cream stand, 100 Acre Woods which offers horseback riding, Sheepscot Links which offers a 9 hole golf course and Hidden Valley Nature Center which offers a twenty five mile trail system with many outdoor activities.
Tribby cottage is 20 minutes away from both Augusta and Damariscotta. Augusta, Maine's State Capital, offers all the big box stores, grocery markets, banks, movie theatres, airport, highways and a the nationally recognized Maine State Museum. Damariscotta is a quaint coastal town. The coastal area offers ocean beaches, lighthouses, hiking, boat tours, sea kayaking, galleries, charming shops, antiques, great restaurants and lobster.
For the past twenty years I have run a bed and breakfast on my working farm in Jefferson Maine. I no longer operate the B&B but reside on the farm which is one mile from the cottage.
Juliana Hoffmann purchased this cottage in 1972
Tribby cottage has been in the same family for three generations.
I don't use this word often, but Tribby Cottage was truly amazing. I brought my family of 4 (kids 11,18) and our dog to the cottage for the week. The kids were not too happy to hear 'no internet' but after the first night they adapted and I think they learned life can go on without Tech!.
We had great weather all week, used the canoe and kayak to fish morning, noon, and night. We were told the lake was low, but to us it was just fine. In fact because of that, there were no motor boats all week, and it was like we had the whole lake to ourselves the entire time. Except for the 1000's of perch we caught all week.
For a fast moving family always on the go, this was the perfect getaway to relax, lounge, fish, grill, swim, watch movies we brought on the DVD player, and just get away from everything else.
My family of three stayed here for a week in July with our dog. We couldn't have been happier with the place. The owners were wonderful and totally accommodating of us and our dog. The cabin is rustic and private and well stocked with everything you need. We spent a great amount of time relaxing by the lake and swimming. Most of the time we were the only ones out on the lake. The lake was shallow due to the drought but the owner told us in advance and it really wasn't an issue. I had some wonderful swims as the lake gets very deep a little farther out! To the reviewer who said it was mucky: it's a lake! Honestly, it really worked for us as we have a small child who is a new swimmer, so she felt like she could go out really far. She and my husband fished every day and she caught many fish on the lake while I sat on the dock and listened to the loons. We found the neighbors to be friendly and quiet, and the owners were incredibly helpful and responsive to us. While we were there we had to have some medical supplies shipped to us and Joann and Ellis were ready and willing to help. We are already planning to come back next year. The cabin is wonderfully located and we were able to explore a lot of the surrounding area. It really seems like our new home away from home, and we hope to return! We loved this cottage so much.
my first impression when I arrived was wow then it went down hill from there. The lake was nothing but muck couldn't swim. I bought a 7 day fishing lic. for no reason. so we decided to go to ocean an one of my dogs did an escape from the crate an I guess barked do to the new voices that came to the cabin now take in mind there is no cell servive or land line at this place. so we were asked to leave do to the the dog being loose in the cottage bare in mind there was absolutely no damage the the property I paid for 6 days an a fee of 50 dollars per dog we have 2 a lab an a tiny dog the lab is the one who escaped from the pen she is 11 yrs old an has never destroyed anything an didn't this time either worse vacation ever would not recommend to any one a stay at this place. the brown water was the best cause they draw water for showers an dish washing from the lake thank you I hope people read this don't waste your money ..... John
Quaint peaceful cottage , fully stocked with what you need for cooking, relaxing. We used both the kayak and canoe, fishing was excellent, lots of BIG bass. Ospreys, Eagles, Fox. Lots to do close by, hiking, ocean less than an hour,, great farm stand 3 miles away with awesome cheese. The week went way too fast!
We had a great week! Clean, comfortable, private, quiet and the kitchen was stocked with everything you need for dishes. The lake level is low but the kids and dogs didn't mind. The adults used rafts to get to deeper water. Such a wonderful place to relax!
Clean and cozy cottage in a beautiful part of Maine. Rolling hills, blueberry barrens and small agricultural enterprises abound in the area. Nearby are many farmstands to purchase fresh provisions for your stay.
The owners provide a very informative and helpful binder about the history of the cabin and area attractions.
Not far from the state capitol or mid-coastal Maine villages.
The cabin is at the end of a quiet gravel road and offers much tranquility.
Took the canoe out first thing in the morning and no one else was on the lake but for a great blue heron and a kingfisher. No loons that day.
I would surely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway within 1/2 hour from city or town.
