I've enjoyed a diversified life with careers in Environmental science (which I studied), entertainment, real estate and design. I live in New York but grew up in Canada and Bermuda, two wildly different climes! When it comes to property I tend to prefer the extremes....extreme country, or extreme city, and that's one of the things I love about Woodstock. It's less than two hours from New York City, but it's a million miles away with respect to it's ambiance, culture and attitude. Woodstock is a fabulous combination of getting away from it all while still having plenty to do.
Christine Barker purchased this chalet in 2002
It is a well built classic Woodstock home with amazing woodwork, great angles, and many interesting details. I fell in love with it the moment I walked through the door! It's very private and set back in the woods, but it's minutes to the center of town. Stained glass windows everywhere. It's the perfect mountain home and I love to escape there whenever I can...and I love to see others create wonderful memories there as well!
As one of the oldest arts colonies and one of the most culturally rich small towns in America, Woodstock is also situated in one of the most protected and dramatic wildlife areas in the Northeast. No matter what you seek: culinary excellence, culture, summer concerts, adventure, hiking at its best!!! It all awaits you right here.
Our home is just a few minutes away from all the amenities and attractions of downtown Woodstock but secluded enough to truly feel like you are in your own private retreat.
I rented out the main house and the zen cabin last weekend for my bachelorette party. We loved all of the artistic details the house had to offer. The owner had laminated directions to all of the television and air conditioning equipment. There was plenty of toilet paper and towels available. Everything was spotless and comfortable. The pictures dobt even do it justice. We couldn't be happier. We made so many fantastic memories in this gorgeous home. I will be coming back in years to come!
My husband and I first rented the adjoining Zen Cabin 5 years ago for a romantic weekend, and have always felt drawn to Woodstock and the property. When we decided to host an intimate wedding for close family and friends, this seemed like a it was meant to be.
Family stayed in the main house and cabin, while friends rented nearby cottages. The patio and yard were perfect for both the rehearsal dinner and reception, while the sloped yard in back was a fairytale ceremony setting.
The two kitchens in the big house were ideal in keeping catering warm for 30 people, and there were plenty of bathrooms and indoor nooks to catch a bit of quiet if you needed to. And the setting! So many beautiful details inside and out - we couldn't have been happier.
Susannah and the entire staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, and we plan on returning again!
A group of us went up for 5 nights, rented both the chalet and the zen cabin. We were very comfortable, and loved all the quirky little touches that made us feel at home. I must say that the beds/bedding were absolutely top notch. The owner was very accommodating and very responsive to any questions or requests I had during our stay. We were delighted with the wifi, as some of us had some work to do, and the fireplace was very cozy. I'd recommend it to all!
This property perfectly suited our needs for a multi family, multigenerational getaway! We are all leaving here with great memories. The house was beautiful and the host was very accommodating and easy to get in touch with. We'd definitely stay again!
My friends and I have been coming to this chalet for the past 4 years for a winter weekend getaway. It's perfect - cozy, funky archtecture, accommodating, a great fire place to gather around, super fast wifi for those who want to stay connected, a kitchen that's fun to cook in as a group, and a great hot tub for relaxing under the stars. We love that it's near hiking trails, art galleries, and the food co-op and bakery in town, and that Woodstock is easily served by bus from New York City. It's a truly magical place and one I look forward to returning to every year.
My husband and I hosted our wedding this past September at the chalet and I can honestly say I will never forget the magical weekend we had in the house. It will forever hold a special place in my heart. First, I will say we appreciated the house for all it's beautiful handmade craftsman grandeur. The house has a warm and comforting quality to it and when it's filled with your friends or family you will appreciate that. I can't see how you couldn't make wonderful memories to last a lifetime here. We fit 11 of our dear loved ones in the house, we found the accommodations very friendly to a large group. Great kitchen upstairs stocked with things you need to cook and entertain. Washer and dryer was super helpful. Living room upstairs is extremely cozy. Bedrooms are clean and inviting, perfect to relax and get away from the group if you need some time alone. We made use of the backyard behind the house to host approximately 55 guests, a bar and buffet and it was perfect. Susanna, the property manager is super helpful and responsive and a dream to work with. I can't say enough good things. Stay here!
This is a year round paradise!
In summer enjoy water tubing or fly fishing on the Esopus, canoeing and Kayaking on the Hudson River, horseback riding, rock climbing, tennis, golf and bike around a beautiful reservoir. Visit the largest traditional Tibetan Monastery in the US, climb the beautiful Overlook Mountain or take a dip in one of the numerous water holes in the area.
The fall is absolutely gorgeous, and the Woodstock Film Festival always attracts a crowd. This is also a great time to enjoy apple picking, pumpkin carving and the wonderful foliage of the Catskills Mountains.
The winter offers plenty...Hunter Mountain is a skiers' paradise. Bellayre, Windham Mountain or Plattekill are also nearby. There's great sledding right in town on the aptly named Sled Hill. The iconic Town of Woodstock comes alive with lights over the holidays and is very picturesque.
The areas beautiful lakes, mountains, rivers, restaurants, shopping and cultural scene provide plenty to do whatever time of the year you visit, but you may just want to stay at your beautiful rental home and relax by the fire or take a soak in the hot tub!
