Week in Culebra
We had an amazing week in Culebra and loved the house. It was the perfect home base for our family of 5. As many write, a four-wheel drive is needed to get up the driveway, but once you get up there, the views and breezes are wonderful! We've stayed in other houses on the island and this was one of the best. It has a well-equipped kitchen that we cooked breakfast and dinner in and plenty of space for several people to relax in the evenings. We used the casita for the additional bathroom, but all stayed in the main house to sleep. I highly recommend visiting Culebra and staying at Hilary's house. She's great, by the way, so responsive and a joy to rent from.
A lovely house - perfect for a family to enjoy time together and the island.
I stayed here with my two children (ages 13 and 15) and my friend and her two daughters (ages 13 and 16) for spring break and we all had a wonderful time. We were all able to fit in the house itself - with enough room for privacy and alone-time, as well as hanging out and playing board games at night time. We loved every last thing about this house - and even got used to the drive up the hill to get to it!
We didn't end up cooking anything other than breakfast at the house - primarily because no one wanted to be in charge of that - but the kitchen looked like it would be fine for cooking. The bedrooms were lovely, two of the kids fought over who got to sleep in the alcove, one of the kids slept in the couch in the living room, but we found it that didn't interfere with the use of the living room at all.
We loved the outdoor shower and found boogie boards in the mud-room. The house is so peaceful, so airy, so sweet. And close to everything (what isn't, I guess). We loved everything about it. And Hilary was so helpful and lovely to talk to. Jesse and Debora, who helped us in, were amazing too. Everyone was very kind and thoughtful.
Thank you so much!!!
Thank you Brooke! We were delighted to have you and are so fortunate to have such lovely guests. We hope you will join us again and are thrilled you enjoyed your stay.
Beautiful and Peaceful Island
My family and I (husband and two children, ages 2 and 4) visited Casa Estrella for Spring Break. We took the ferry over from Ceiba and rented a 4WD from Carlos Jeep Rentals. This house is in a beautiful location and we were all comfortable. The local beaches are amazing and our kids loved the snorkeling. All in all we had a wonderful trip and hope to be back to Culebra one day!
On the other side: There was a small bit of confusion with our reservation at the beginning of our trip. The property care taker was unaware of our reservation and I went through a bit of a panic while it was worked out. We were grateful to be allowed to check in early. I was disappointed to not have access to the clothes washer on the property, when it was listed as an amenity on the website property profile. I contacted the care taker concerning using washer and she told me to contact the property owner. I contacted the property owner and she responded that she would get back to me soon - but I never heard back. I also contacted the property owner prior to our trip via the VRBO website about life jackets and never got a response. There are a few beach items to use at the house but many of the googles and flippers are damaged and unable to use. The communication with this property could use some improvement and it would be nice to let renters know if amenities are not available prior to their trip.
Perfect for a girls getaway!
Hillary's property on Culebra offerred everything we needed. The location is quiet with beautiful views and the house + casita + deck provided ample space for both gathering and quiet time.
The prolific collection of books in the space kept our group busy and entertained (we are a group of five English teachers). We also made use of the board games available.
Jessie, the caretaker, was quick to meet us upon our arrival at the airport and was super helpful in helping us work with the Jeep company who lost our booking.
Thanks for a great trip!
So happy you ladies and a good time and, from a former English major, we love having English teachers!
We hope you join us again and welcome you anytime.
A secluded, cozy villa
Our family of 5 had a great stay at Villa Estrella in Culebra. The location is great. Off to itself, but in close proximity to the downtown area and most desirable beaches. The home and casita were well-loved with many books/games/dvds for families to enjoy. The view from the deck was lovely. The beds, linens, towels were totally fine...though a few new beach towels would be a great addition. We appreciated the new beach chairs and the ability to do a load of laundry during our stay so that we could pack super-light. All in all, we would stay here again. The Ritz-Carlton it is not, but if you love Culebra, then you would want no parts of staying at The Ritz versus spending good quality time in an abode as homey as this! Thank you so much for allowing us to spend time in your family's lovely villa!
Wonderful family retreat
We had a great time; the house's views of the ocean were amazing and its refreshing breeze and bird songs made the evenings very peaceful. It was a great place for us to relax and enjoy each other's company while exploring the island and using this as a base camp. We took advantage of the snorkeling gear and were able to get out and enjoy almost all of the islands beaches over 5 days. The only thing I would reiterate from previous comments is the need to rent a Jeep to get up the driveway and the need to bring in bottled water for drinking. Otherwise, we had no issues with the water: the showers were great, and we especially loved the outdoor shower after long days at the beach. The extensive library was entertaining, and I think between all of us, we all found a good book and/or CD. A special thanks to Jesse who was super hospitable and guided us from the Jeep rental location to the house so that we wouldn't get lost.
Our house is on the exclusive east side o the island close to town shops and restaurants yet completely private and on 5 lush hilltop acres on a gated dead end road. A perfect getaway with the luxury of a private property and close to the amenities that Culebra has to offer.
