About Bob

We are two lifelong friends who bought this building to live in, remodeled it completely for ourselves, and later converted it to a vacation rental.

Bob purchased this apartment in 2000

Why Bob chose Chicago

Our area is safe and very close to everything in Chicago, including our convention center, McCormick Place. You are in a quiet and safe neighborhood, but the city center and all of our major attractions are very close. It's the best of both worlds.

What makes this apartment unique

You will love our deck with the amazing view of the Chicago city skyline, our hot tub, and our huge steam bath shower with multiple Grohe Body Sprays. It is like a massage.

We are ½ mile from the I-94 Dan Ryan Expressway. It is a 5 minute drive to Lake Shore Drive and another 10-15 minutes from there to the Museums, Navy Pier, Millennium Park, Michigan Avenue shopping and every major attraction in this city.

When we lived in this building ourselves, we would always be able to get to the lakefront and all of our major attractions in 10 to 20 minutes. If there is a concert, or major festival on the lakefront. we can show you a local shortcut to make great travel time to our city center.

Ours is a quiet, safe, and friendly family neighborhood. We have great 3 to 4 star restaurants and bars and great casual dining with every infamous Chicago sandwich and pizza that you've heard of. You can save a fortune on casual dining or drink prices if you want to eat locally some of the time during you visit. You can park easily too and we include garage parking with your rental. If you want to visit our 5 star restaurants or nightclubs, they are a quick 10-20 minute drive or cab ride away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Although this is one of our newer ads that began in 2011, we have been operating our rentals since October 2007.

Here is one of the guest comments from our early days.

By Natalie, Las Vegas

This place is definitely a great bargain and well worth the money. I can say it is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed at. It is very big with all the extras you can imagine: big comfy beds, spa shower (like a massage), Internet, laundry, and more. It is a home, not just an empty rental. It is also VERY well stocked with necessities. It is in a safe neighborhood very close to public transportation. One of the biggest perks is the truly kind and helpful owner, who always answers his phone and helps you with anything you need. I'd stay for his helpfulness alone. I really recommend this place!!!

This vacation rental was everything it was advertised to be. Very pleasant stay!

Everything was great and what we expected. The apartment is large and comfortable with lots of windows and supplied with everything you need. There were plenty of towels, tissue paper, a well equipped kitchen, extra pillows and blankets and a washer and dryer. The rooftop balcony is large and has a fantastic view of the Chicago skyline. I was very impressed with the shower and had never used one like it before. It was large with beautiful marble tile and the steam feature was pretty incredible. The hot tub is large and private in it's own room. I only wish we had more time to use it. There were maps, phone numbers, and menus; pretty much everything you need to help you out. The parking space in the garage was very convenient but we usually found parking on the street as well. Location was one of the best things for us since we wanted to have easy accessibility to the south side of the city, the north side suburbs and the downtown and lakefront area. We got around on foot and were able to walk to restaurants, bars, bakeries and ATM's. When driving we were able to take different routes so we could avoid traffic or rush hour, and we also used the Red Line, Orange Line and Uber; all close by and convenient. The owner, Bob, was very responsive and informative, and he responded to our questions very quickly. I could tell he loved and was proud of his property as if you were staying at his own home. This is the kind of place that reflects the 'real' Chicago in a 'real' neighborhood with downtown conveniences. I had lived there most of my life and after moving away 20 years ago it felt great to come back to the City I love and stay in such a great place. I would definately stay there again!

nice place to stay in chicago for a good price

  • 4 of 5

Nice sized apartment for our family of 2 adults and 2 teens. Kitchen well supplied with dishes, cookware. We arrived day after Christmas and hot tub was not working but the management knew about it and got someone out there on Dec 27 to fix it. Didn't realize we would be sharing the hot tub with downstairs apartment. Luckily we picked different times to use it. Definite lack of real grocery store and restaurants within walking distance, but there is a sandwich shop/deli mart (we didn't get to use, it was closed the first day and we got provisions downtown). Decent public transport close by. Got us inside the loop in under 30 each day.

Owner's Response: Dana was a great guest in every way, and thanks for the nice review. We do have 2 smaller corner grocery stores with all basic items 1 block away and 1 has a great hot foo deli for breakfast and lunch One is open 7 days until 8pm. We include this in our huge guest files that we email along with a map of where all shopping, banking, dining and transportation options. Full size groceries are 1 mile away or a 3 minute Uber. You can also stop at 5 star grocery stores like whole foods on the way back from downtown and uber the 3 miles from there. Unfortunately our hot tub did need a repair. That's happened 3 times in 6 years. The problem started on Christmas Eve when it’s impossible to get a repairman. We had our best guy out the day after the holiday and since he carries parts, it was fixed that morning by 11. He comes 60 miles one way and charges an arm and a leg, but he’s the best and we don’t try to save money when our guest’s satisfaction is concerned. There are no repairmen who live in the city. There are very, very few hot tubs in Chicago because they freeze solid or crack if not indoors as ours is. Some of the large hotels and apartment buildings have one, but they have their own maintainance crews. I really don’t know what more we could have done on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. We did our best.

Perfect for 2 couples

  • 4 of 5

We were quite pleased with the unit, the layout is great and allows everyone space to move about without being on top of each other. We were a little disappointed that the 2nd bathroom was in the basement and the unit we were in is on the 2nd floor, but it really didn't make a huge difference. The owner was friendly, available and very helpful in all aspects of the rental.

Perfect location in a quiet neighbourhood. Easy travel and very comfortable living space.

  • 5 of 5

My son and I stayed for our eight day trip principally to run the Chicago marathon. The accommodation, hot tub and rooftop terrace have been perfect. Sox 35 train station is a ten minute walk away. This gives regular easy service into the Chicago centre. Buying the 7 day pass makes train travel a very inexpensive way to explore the whole city. Everything we needed was in the apartment. It has a great sound system in the TV room which pleased my son Fin. The hot tub was perfect for after the marathon. All in all the accommodation is quiet, comfortable and spacious. It has laundry facility a safe garage and brilliant Wifi. We would definitely use this space again if we return in the future. Thank you Bob.

Ours is a 2 unit building. If this apartment is taken, our other apartment may be available and it is listed on Homeaway and VRBO. If you need more space, you can rent both apartments and you'd have the entire building. Our guests who do that really enjoy that.

We have a few main policies that we prefer to discuss up front. We know that these don't apply to 99% of our guests, but we have learned the hard way that these need to be discussed before we reserve a rental for a guest.

We don’t allow parties or gatherings of any kind. We only rent our apartments for lodging. Noise late at night or excessive noise anytime is very disturbing to our neighbors and other guests, so our rentals are definitely not a good fit for the very late night or very hard partying crowd. We do not rent to guests coming for music festivals or concerts. A few groups ruined that for everyone. We are located in a quiet residential area and our guests and neighbors We prefer that the guest renting the apartment be 30 years old or older, but we are glad to discuss rentals with responsible adults 25 and older.

About our rates. We can often offer additional discounts for longer rentals. We set our rates depend on the length and timing of your rental. Some special events may have higher minimum stay requirements or have higher per night rates for shorter rentals.

If you are concerned about having to cancel your trip, we suggest that you look into trip insurance that is available and offered by many reputable firms online and otherwise. One such firm is http://www.tripinsurancestore.com.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
