About the property

Cabin, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 11)

Come visit The Cabin at Trout Creek, our newly constructed cabin which opened April, 2010. Set on 3 1/2 acres with over a million acres of San Isabel National Forest out the front door, this 3000 ft2 cabin offers its guests peace and seclusion yet easy access to nearly unlimited outdoor activities only minutes away. With views in every direction, the cabin has been designed to match the beauty of the creation that surrounds it.

The decor is rustic, yet beautiful, with a distinct mountain feel. Down to the smallest detail, much thought has been given to create an ideal setting for a family vacation or small group getaway. From luxurious towels to fun, built in bunk beds the kids will love, you will find the cabin has everything you need and so much more. Enjoy a peaceful cup of coffee on our 600 ft2 deck or use one of the bikes on the property to explore the nearby biking trails. After a day of activity, come back and enjoy a board game in front of the stone gas fireplace, read a book in the loft, or choose to watch a HD movie from our huge selection of DVDs. The cabin is intentionally designed to be big enough to vacation with Grandma and Grandpa or another family, yet not too big if you are a small family on a summer getaway.

If you want to get out and explore the area, you will find there are more things to do than you have time for! Buena Vista is home to the Arkansas River, providing world-class whitewater rafting and fly fishing. It also hosts the largest concentration of 14,000+ foot mountains in Colorado, offering spectacular scenery and endless outdoor activity. The lively town of Buena Vista is only 15 minutes away and offers many activities, restaurants, and shops.

About Judy Halmrast

Although Minnesota is our first home, we have found that our hearts have been drawn to the openness and beauty of the Colorado Rockies over the years. To build and own a cabin in one of the most beautiful places on earth truly is a blessing--a blessing we want to share with others, as well. So much of who we are--our personalities, values, priorities--are reflected in this cabin. Our goal has been to create a place that not only provides peace and relaxation, but that inspires its guests to connect with family and friends, with God and His creation.

Judy Halmrast purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Judy Halmrast chose South Central Colorado

The area in and around Buena Vista is amazing--the scenery is spectacular and the activities available are virtually unlimited. Our cabin is only 15 minutes from town which allows easy access to restaurants and shopping, yet offers us the quiet and beauty of a mountain getaway that is so important to us.

What makes this cabin unique

As we built this cabin, we have been very intentional about everything from the location of the land purchased to the smallest detail in decorating each room. For both us and our guests we want the cabin to be a place that has everything we need to either tuck in for a few days without driving anywhere or be a homebase for an activity filled vacation. Rest, beauty, refreshment--that's what we find at the cabin. We hope that you will to.

Beautiful, secluded home for a relaxing get-away!

  • 5 of 5

This house was pretty much exactly as it was advertised on VRBO - a beautiful home with nice amenities. The kids loved the bedrooms - particularly the room with the bunk bed, and it was nice to have true flexibilty to make the beds into twins, rather than a king, so each could have their own.

The house was definitely off the beaten path, and a little further from Buena Vista and Monarch than I had expected, but the house was nice enough that no one seemed to mind the drive. The Apple map app on our phones kept making us drive an extra few minutes to get there until we realized that there was a faster way, so make sure you look at the map.

Beautiful house and amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

This house is amazing! We chose to stay here because of it's location and the lot of 5 star reviews. There are views from basically every side of the house. The huge deck on the front and small rear deck helped us enjoy the surroundings. It was very clean, loaded with cooking supplies, games, had fresh linens, and much more. We went fishing at the nearby (30 +- minutes) Dream Stream. This house is close enough to the main highway for accessibility, but feels very private. The location offers much to do in the area, especially for those who are looking to spend most of their day outdoors. We really enjoyed our stay here and would love to rent it again. Thanks!

Beautiful mountain home

  • 5 of 5

Our group gets together every year to celebrate birthdays and each year we pick a new location. We picked this cabin because it was within two hours drive for all of us and because it had enough bedrooms and bathrooms to accomadate seven women.

This home is beautiful, well maintained and well stocked. The kitchen had everything we needed and even had some condiments in the refrigerator. The ice maker container was full of ice, and it was fresh ice! With seven people I was happy to find two coffee makers it made mornings easier. The bathrooms had shampoo, body wash and lotion.

The beds were clean, comfortable and separated enough to allow for privacy. There is a large deck out front and a smaller deck on the second level.

The driveway goes around to the rear of the house making it easy to load and unload and the back porch was a perfect spot for our coolers.

The cabin is situated perfectly on the property allowing for a beautiful view out the large windows of the grasslands across the road and the forest beyond. We took a wonderful walk down the road through the grasslands and forest and only encountered two vehicles. We stayed two days and both days had deer wander through the yard and even take a nap under the trees by the parking area.

The absolute best part of the visit was our perfect timing, the aspen trees in the forest out front of the cabin were in full color and were absolutely stunning. We had coffee in the morning out on the deck soaking in the beauty, and cocktails every evening and the stars at night were just as stunning. If you are considering this property don't hesitate to visit, it is everything you would hope it would be and more.

So relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean, quite and full of everything needed. My family and I have booked many houses, this was one of the best and felt like home. Judy responded to every question. So close to Buena Vista, but felt like only the cows were around. Thank you for the use of the cabin!!
