About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Welcome to Patti's Country Garden Cottage, just minutes from the Historic Sonoma Valley Plaza, the perfect blend of comfort and privacy in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful gardens invite quiet walks, comfortable colorful chairs and benches for viewing breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, and a delightful 'Cape Cod' style gazebo for the perfect lunch await your visit.

The 'back pasture' is the home to a large Victory Garden while the large deck showcases the kitchen garden, full of tasty herbs and salad makings. In the fall, the apple and fig trees offer nutritious fruit! Guests are invited to enjoy this bounty, all organically grown.

The quiet cozy (though spacious...925 sq ft) two bedroom, 1 1/2 bath cottage is fully furnished and easily accommodates four. The couch converts to a comfortable twin size bed for extra space! On those cool evenings, the gas-fired Franklin stove adds a magical charm. Enjoy a glass of wine on your private deck, sip early morning coffee in the garden gazebo while gazing at the sun rising over the Sonoma hills, or sleep late and amble down to the Plaza for a latte and a chocolate croissant.

If you enjoy wine tasting close 'to home,' then be ready to visit at least 10 notable wineries less than 10 minutes from your deck. If Redwoods are on your list, the Muir Woods State Park is a demonstration forest of these gentle giants, just 40 minutes from Sonoma!

For a small town, Sonoma celebrates year round with festivals, music, in-season farmers' markets, fun-filled fundraisers for local charities, vineyard tours, and wonderful wine tastings. Special 'taste of Sonoma' treats are the perfect beginning for your visit...bread, fruit, and of course, a bottle of wine await your arrival.

Whether you ride a bike, take a walk, enjoy an extraordinary dinner out, drive to the coast, enjoy San Francisco, or stay in your cottage, your visit will be restful and memorable. You will want to return, and you will always be welcomed!

About Patti Peters

1987 was a life-changing year! On the way back from a cross-country trip, I drove to Sonoma, around the Historic Plaza twice, and decided to make this quaint town my new home. Three months later, I was the proud owner of 1.25 acres, just 25 walking minutes from that wonderful plaza. The past 30 years have been joyfully spent in reclaiming the land. My home is comfortable and inviting, the big red barn and old sheep shed have been restored, and the old shack and chicken coop replaced by a cozy cottage (separate from my home), visited by many over the years. Equally charming are the organic herb, vegetable, and flower gardens, watched over by the majestic native grown Redwoods, planted in 1988! Turning the back 1/4 acre into a magical walking path garden was a 20-year dream, finally completed in 2006. A unique gazebo, comfortable chairs and benches, and a welcoming Adirondack swing invite thoughtful moments amongst a variety of trees, flowers, native bushes, birds, rabbits, and an occasional fox. Every season brings new growth and surprises! The Sonoma Valley reminds me of two favorite places. It's surrounded by trees similar to the Flathead Valley in Northwest Montana and has the home-town feel of friendly people, festivals, and traditions of New England. Do come and visit my home; you will want to stay a while!

Why Patti Peters chose Sonoma County

The 1987 cross-country trip in my 1979 VW camper (which is still on the property!) offered time for reflection in addition to the opportunity of meeting the most wonderful, down-to-earth people who shared a short time of their lives with me. From the mountains, across the great plains, to the East Coast and back, I found myself thinking of small towns. When I drove into Sonoma, something immediately felt 'right.' It was a life-changing moment. The people are kind, generous with their time to the many worth-while nonprofits here, and enjoy sharing the valley with visitors from around the world. Over the years, Sonoma has grown on me, and it is always a delight to share this magical place with visitors. Do come and experience this for yourself!

What makes this cottage unique

Two quiet bedrooms with comfortable mattresses. Full bath and a half plus an endless supply of fluffy towels. A basket of slippers for those chilly evenings. Dining area complete with a lovely oval table and four comfortable chairs. Living room with a comfortable twin size coach/hide-a-bed sleeper and a “country barn” view. Full kitchen – right down to pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. A private deck for watching the setting sun over the Sonoma Valley hills. The kitchen garden on the larger deck provides fragrant and tasty herbs while the Victory Garden offers delicious vegetables, organic of course. Plus, the fig and apple trees offer nutritious snacks. The added bonus are the sunsets over the Sonoma Hills; and when the moon is full, the valley is breathtaking.

Perfect Hospitality

  • 5 of 5

My fiance and I recently stayed at Patti's while wine touring (and food touring) Napa and Sonoma for three days. She is a wonderful hostess, and the cottage was the perfect place to relax, rest and recharge. We would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: This couple was just a delight. They were very excited about being in the wine country and asked many questions about places to visit. They enjoyed the local restaurants, gift shops, walking around the plaza and simply being with each other to relax and enjoy the property . It would be wonderful to have them visit again!

Beautiful Rental!

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent the weekend at Patti's cottage. It was the perfect place to spend a weekend for our extended family - my wife and I, 2 grandparents and 2 young kids. She welcomed us into the home and made us feel comfortable throughout, and the kids loved her. Patti is very warm and was the perfect hostess.

This is truly a kid friendly setup. (And for those with kids, it's very close to Sonoma Train Town, I think about a mile away.)

The deck is a great space to relax. And the back garden is spectacular, and a lovely place to walk through or spend time reading or just sitting.

Owner's Response: This was a wonderful family and it was a pleasure to spend time with them. The children were especially energetic and enjoyed running around the deck and in the gardens. They were happy to help me pick a bouquet of flowers and talked most of the time! The grandparents were so attentive, and it was obvious the children loved being with them. The parents spent time explaining everything and answering many questions...all with a smile and creating teaching moments. Train Town was a hit with the children, and the parents enjoyed all Sonoma had to offer as they enjoyed the "wedding" weekend. This family will always be welcomed here!

A perfect retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We just loved staying at Patti's cottage. We visited the area for a mother/daughter bonding weekend over mother's day. The place is so cozy and the perfect place to relax after your busy days in the Sonoma area. Patti is the perfect hostess and supplied us with all the essentials, including wine, coffee and baguette. The gardens are just spectacular. The cottage is about 2 miles from the Sonoma Square so you can walk to dinner and enjoy the views along the way. We were so pleased with choosing her accommodations. You can rest assured that you won't be disappointed if you stay here. Enjoy! We sure did!

Owner's Response: This was a delightful family. The daughters were so excited to be bringing their mom to Sonoma for Mother's Day. They certainly did get around...walked to the plaza, enjoyed local restaurants, took a wine tour, and spent time each day in the garden. They never stopped smiling, and I heard a great deal of talking and laughing. It was delightful to have them for such a special weekend, and they are welcomed to return any time!

Patti’s Cottage was the HIGHLIGHT of our Girls’ Trip:)

  • 5 of 5

Patti’s Cottage is a must stay because it is cozy, comfortable, clean, has a beautiful garden and has all the essentials for any group especially 5 girls….she offered the comforts of home. Our experience with Patti and her cottage was great, she communicated quickly and accommodated our early 1:30 am arrival. Furthermore, Patti offered a complimentary bottle of wine, coffee, and baguette upon request, which we all enjoyed. Her cottage is only 45 minutes to 1 hour away from SFO airport and had a parking spot for our rental van. Patti was very friendly, knowledgable, and greeted us in the morning prior to our group heading to Napa to enjoy the wine tours. Her place is only 20-30 minutes away from Napa Valley and a few minutes from downtown Sonoma. Patti’s cottage is a definite must stay….the 5 of us girls want to go back and she offered us a 20% discount for our next visit:) Thank you Patti for a wonderful experience!

College roommates big chill reunion

  • 5 of 5

Patti's Cottage was the perfect gathering place for three college roommates gathering after nearly 40 years to catch up on life. The rooms are comfortable, clean and the kitchen is fully stocked for our cooking in and eating on the outside deck. Patti encouraged us to gather herbs, tomatoes and figs from the gardens. The cheese, wine and fruit left by Patti made our arrival a bit easier to get settled and have a bit early. She is nearby and available to provide help or advice and respects your privacy as well. The outdoor gardens and sitting areas are beautiful and great place to sip wine. We were close to town and able to enjoy the Harvest Moon festival at Sonoma Plaza. Strongly recommend Patti's Cottage.

Patti's Cottage Sonoma

  • 5 of 5

Patti's Cottage in Sonoma was wonderful. Three college roommates from the mid-1970s UC Davis meeting after nearly 40 years. Patti's Cottage was the perfect location for cooking, enjoying wine and dinner on the deck, coffee in the mornings in the lovely gardens and fig trees, fresh herbs, tomatoes for the picking. Two bedrooms with beds, pull-out sofa bed, fully-stocked kitchen, cable tv, close to town.. Thank you Patti for making our "big chill" weekend so memorable. Same time next year?

Owner's Response: These three friends were a delight and so very happy to be reconnected. They enjoyed wine and food on the deck, walked in the gardens, were up late telling wonderful stories...and always laughing. They used every second to reconnect and to catch up with each other. They also explored the Sonoma Plaza in addition to local wineries. It was a joyous occasion, and delightful to see three women sharing their stories and their time.
