Hit the road, and get out of town!!! Vacation in the heart of the beautiful Beartooth Mountains and stay with us at the Beartooth Lodge. Location truly is everything! Take in the majestic views of the world famous Pilot and Index Peaks, all located in one of the highest points of the Beartooth Mountain Range. Get your camera ready and see up close the vast variety of wildlife: elk and bison, moose and big horn sheep, coyotes, deer, mountain goats, wolves, grizzly bears, black bears, and a wide variety of birds including ravens and bald eagles.

A one-hour drive will take you to Red Lodge, Montana, an old gold mining town, and popular tourists' attraction, that's grown into a picturesque ski resort with plenty of shops and restaurants. Heading east on the Chief Joseph Highway 296 and over historic Dead Indian Pass shows a wide open vista of the Rocky Mountains--. Chief Joseph Highway will take you to Cody, Wyoming, where you can see the rodeos during the summer season.

With such a variety of attractions and activities to see and do, you won't remember which one you loved best, and the memories will last a lifetime. Beartooth Lodge has something for everyone: hunting and world-class fishing, white-water rafting down the Shoshone River, a thrill seeker's dream and a ride you'll never forget!

And for those of you who just want to relax and unwind, (read that book you've been wanting to finish) get yourself comfortable-- find the perfect spot just for you and slip your feet into the cool running water at the river's edge, just outside your front porch. Don't just read about these places on Facebook, see for yourself why our guests keep coming back.

About Mallie Zickefoose

Richard (Zig) & Mallie Zickefoose

Hi, we are a hard working outdoor loving couple and we are living the life we enjoy. Come spend some time with us and experience our no hassle lifestyle.

Mallie Zickefoose purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Mallie Zickefoose chose Wyoming

We found this area 18 years ago on our first date and decided there was no other place in the world more beautiful than here; we made this area our home. There are so many things to do in our area that we have found out that it has kept us young!!! This is truly the best place to get away from it all!

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy it here because of the great fishing and outdoor recreation. Yellowstone is close by so we can go there any time we like. We also love to take our four wheelers into the backcountry in the summer and in the winter there is fantastic snowmobiling from our doorstep. If you like to hike there is no better place, if you like to view wildlife it gets no better than here. Our families come and stay and it is a great vacation spot that young children will remember for a long time! We also have the beautiful Beartooth Mountains out our back door. Most of our guest tell us they enjoyed their time spent at the cabin more than they did visiting Yellowstone. Once you get here you hate to leave it is so relaxing and beautiful.

50th Wedding Anniversary

  • 5 of 5

We decided to do something "non-traditional" for our fiftieth wedding anniversary...no parties, no family gathering, no one telling us how good we look to be this old (72 and 70). After reading other reviews we decided to rent The Fishing Cabin at Beartooth Lodge, for a week. It was an OUTSTANDING experience. Right on the river, we were sung to sleep each night by the sound of rushing water. In the morning, we awakened to see deer drinking from the river, not 20 yards from our window. At night we built fires in the fire-pit, or grill steaks on the grill/smoker on the porch. Zig and Mallie and their daughter, Tana, were perfect hosts. We could not have asked for a better location to celebrate 50 years of life together. Looking forward to another visit to Beartooth Lodge and to the Fishing Cabin.

Gorgeous Views Here

  • 5 of 5

Mallie and Zig have a lovely property. We stayed in the rustic and comfortable Trapper Cabin. It reminded me of the childhood trips to the cabin in Minnesota. We just do not have mountain peaks surrounding us. The Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River is right out the door. My daughters had fun climbing on the rocks under our watchful eyes. Tana, Mallie and Zig's daughter, offers tours of the valley, and was a very interesting story teller of growing up in this wilderness. We explored the beauty of this area, and used the Beartooth Lodge as a base to explore the Lamar River Valley (great animal viewing) of Yellowstone National Park.

Awesome Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We were very fortunate to have found this wonderful cabin to rent during the winter months for snowmobiling. It is located right below the "Top of the World" and not too far from Cooke City for the extreme snowmobiling. The view is absolutely spectacular and the cabin has everything that one could need. We will continue to return every year. Thank you Zig and Mallie for the wonderful place!

Decompress week

  • 5 of 5

We got really lucky finding this hidden gem for a week in late September to early October. Great trout fishing in front of the cabin even with the water so low and also at the lake down the road. The trip into Yellowstone was only about 20-25 minutes and NO long scary passes to go over. This time of the year the foliage was spectacular and the cool crisp air refreshing. So if your looking for a place to unwind and forget about all of your troubles this is the place. Not having cell phone service, a TV or internet was really refreshing and NOT missed a bit. Conversation was our entertainment without commercials.

Mallie and Zig are great hosts and we will definitely come back. Thanks for the stay:)

Great end to a two week vacation

  • 5 of 5

Wow is all I can say! My family went on a 2 wk vacation and stayed in 3 places-1 in Colorado, 1 in Montana and this cabin. When my husband told me about the accommodations he secured, in my mind this was my least favorite. This was the last place we stayed on our vacation. Boy was I surprised. My entire family loved it. My 17 yr old daughter deemed sitting along the river on the rocks her new "favorite" place. The entire family loved the fishing. The views are breathtaking and the accommodations are extremely comfortable! When these reviews say that Zig & Mallie will do anything for you, they mean it! I was making Mac & Cheese for lunch the day we were leaving and we had run out of milk at breakfast. Zig hopped on the 4-wheeler, ran up to the office and brought back a half gallon and told us to use what we need and leave the rest in the fridge when we leave. They are unbelievably hospitable. The cabin is really neat. Zig built it himself and it is just beautiful! The price of the cabin is incredibly low too. We will stay again and bring our 4-wheelers next time!

Feels Like Our Second Home

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this beautiful cabin three times and every time it feels more like home. this cabin has everything you could possibly need to be comfortable and if you don't have it or can't find it Zig or Mallie will make sure that they get it for you. The beauty out in this area is outstanding, fishing is world renowned the river is just outside your door and has the most relaxing hum as the water flows over the rocks, it is very tranquil in the summer when the windows are open it will put you right to sleep. My husband and I just came back from a hunting trip and stayed again at the fishing cabin just as beautiful and relaxing as summer (maybe even more if that is possible), Don't hesitate to stay at the fishing cabin you wont be disappointed!
