We had such a lovely stay at the Dome House. It is exquisite - we'd love to come back again in the summer! We relaxed, cooked, and enjoyed the wood stove. Our dog, Toby, parked himself right in front of the stove, and loved the shag rug! Everything was handled so smoothly in renting the house. Thank you so much!
This was the perfect home in Woodstock, NY, an adorable town with lots to do close by. We were sad to only stay in the home for two nights. It is a short walk into town for shops and restaurants. The home is incredibly well designed, quiet, and comfortable. The geodesic dome was a HUGE hit with our 10 and 12 year old daughters, and a lot of fun to hang out in. The kitchen was well stocked with spices and cooking utensils and pots/pans, and the living room had a great projection television for evening film watching. The yard was large and lovely, and we saw deer right out back both nights. The owners were easy to work with, and fast to respond. It was the perfect home for a fall getaway.
Well, this is without a doubt, the most unusual home that we've found to date. It was beautiful in all senses (both styles) and a fun place to stay. Our friends from Amsterdam really thought this was wonderful. They are used to small spaces and just could not get over the size and expanse of the house and property. The pictures are not misleading...they show you exactly what to expect. We loved the birdhouses and bird bath.
If back in Woodstock, we would not hesitate to stay at this "...strange and wondrous place." Thank you Kim for your attention to detail and for responding to us quickly.
There are times when you have that one perfect moment when everything is right with the world. One afternoon, lying in the hammock in the gazebo at the dome house was one of those moments. Having been an admirer of R. Buckminister Fuller and Frank Lloyd Wright, the home was a perfect marriage of the two architectural styles. We had everything we needed, the instructions were clearly marked, it was a quick 5 minute walk into Woodstock. The library of books and LPs were wonderful, timely with the house and with Woodstock. We were there for two weeks and ate both at home and out. My husband, our daughter who is a college junior and I were there for two weeks and enjoyed every moment. Kim, the agent for the owners was great and we want to thank the owners for sharing their amazing home.
We spent a splendid week at this home. The location is really perfect. It is a nice short walk into the center of town but you are far enough away that you are completely out of the hustle bustle and nestled in the woods. The back of the house faces a beautiful meadow where we watched the deer frolic and many different sorts of birds swooping and feeding and nesting. It was serene and lovely. The patio is sunny and a great warm spot for breakfast and general lounging. There is also a large screened in gazebo with a hammock and picnic table - perfect for dinner after grilling on the bbq. Inside is equally as wonderful. The "dome" room is a large, very comfortable and cool room with a big open kitchen that is very well stocked with everything you need for home cooking. You definitely don't feel like you are in a rental home with just the bare minimum for cooking - we love to cook and were very happy with the kitchen supplies. In the living room area there is a big cozy sofa for reading, relaxing or watching a movie on the wall projector TV. The house comes with a great selection of movies and we watched a few on the projector - which was fun. The extension on the dome is really fantastic - the back wall of the house is essentially all glass looking out to the meadow. The upstairs bedroom has nearly floor to ceiling windows (bring your eye mask for sleeping in) and is huge, airy and gorgeous. The bathroom/shower/dressing area design was amazing and very thoughtful -- the shower is huge! The downstairs bedrooms are very comfortable also, and open to the meadow side of the house. I recommend this house highly for a couple or a family or friends get a way. It was a real treat to stay there. Also -- very close by is a bike rental shop - we rented bikes one day and rode from the house out and around the Ashokan reservoir, that was really fun and we saw bald eagles flying over the reservoir, which was a treat. We also saw a bear -- which was a little scary but also cool! There is a lot of great hiking in the area -- and a really nice run/walk in the woods from the house in the Commeau Property -- just across Tinker St. Finally, Kim was a very professional and helpful property manager. I'll also add that if you have a dog and happen to be in need of "doggie-daycare" while you are there -- Camp Belly Rub in nearby Kingston was A+++ and I highly recommend them as well. Thank you very much!
Our group had a great time in the Dome house. We can safely say it is the most unique house we have stayed at! Since it was a crazy spring weekend, we got to enjoy the hammock and gazebo on a sunny afternoon in the peaceful backyard, chilly nights cozy by the fire while watching fun old movies projected on the dome wall, a bit of time in the very nearby, but not too close town, and a snowy morning cooking a big breakfast in the open kitchen.
We will be back!
My wife, two young sons and I thoroughly loved our 3 night stay here. Firstly the house is a gorgeous design….the geodesic dome is so cool, unique and cozy and then the mid century style modern wing addition is simply fabulous. The layout was very cleverly thought out and although it's a large open space it feels warm and friendly. The master bedroom is beautiful - I loved the large en suite steam shower room - and the other bedrooms, although smaller were a perfectly good size and with good light. My 6 year old loved the dome with it's pointed entry doors and triangular windows - he called it his palace!
Even though it was a short walk to the center of Woodstock, the house had a country feel to it with all the windows facing out over the property which looks like a rustic field. It wasn't really cold enough for us to light the wood burning stove in the dome or ignite the good looking gas stoves in the master bedroom and living room area but I can only imagine that it would be an extra cozy experience.
The house was clean, tidy and very nicely furnished. The kitchen was well equipped and had very nice lighting and I liked the butcher block counter tops. I really appreciated that there was lots of useful labeling on light switches etc and notes in appropriate places to make life easier for guests.
Our booking was very last minute and the manager of the house, Kim, was very easy to communicate with and we had no problems at all. We've already raved about the house to all our friends and would love to go back again soon!
We ate at the Garden Cafe which is vegan and very good - really light and cool decor. We also ate at Shindig a small but very good restaurant - we had a really good brunch there - and the Yum Yum Noodle Bar which is not outstanding but perfectly adequate. All these places are a easy walk from the house.
I highly recommend this house .
